Same here, I was going to the movies, saw it in the parking lot and I couldn't stop looking at it. Just a nice looking car and that paint job was top notch.
I read somewhere that the hybrid gives you something like 600-700 mile range... That’s insane for a “sports” car! This isn’t a track car. This is for that long Weekend drive while looking cooler than anyone else on the road. I love it!
Tf is up with those two above me? Buttheads. Agreed, StraightPipes. I think, from now on, all cars should just be gorgeous, gorgeous cutaways. Would certainly make for more interesting roads.
Geese your video editing skills are amazing. I feel lucky that this content is available for free on RU-vid, and it's a damn shame that your subs aren't higher. You are the reason why I pulled the trigger on my S2000 last week :).
This guy is a really good reviewer! The Hybrid is the way to go for sensible people who want a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY NICE CAR. The V8 is for people who think they are professional race car drivers turned loose on the public roads to terrorize everyone. I've got the 2018 V8 and if I had to do it all over again, the Hybrid would have been my choice. Yes, it's really fun to have the power and sound of that V8 but 99% of the time I'm just driving from here to there and enjoying the comfort and quality of the car. That's the realistic part of the equation. Guys who want race cars should be buying those 600-800 horsepower supercars from Germany, Italy and of course Chevrolet. They will probably wind up killing themselves or some other people chasing their fantasies and not having the good sense to remember the roads are public highways and not race tracks. I've been driving a 435 h.p. 1969 Corvette since 1970. It's been my daily driver for all these years. As a younger guy I definitely did stupid stuff but as you get older, you just grow up, mature (a bit) and just want to "get there safely". I understand youth and now I'm getting to understand old age. The LC 500 is NOT A RACE CAR. Don't buy one for that reason. It is arguably the nicest car available today....especially for the money. Unlike those other cars, this one will spend very little time in the shop being repaired and when it needs something, it won't cost an arm and a leg to get the part. I would encourage anyone who is interested in buying a wonderful automobile to go test drive both versions of the LC 500. You will fall in love. If you decide to buy one, the choice is relatively easy as long as you are honest with yourself. I succumbed to the fantasy. I love my car but would definitely get the Hybrid if given the opportunity to choose again.
I see plenty of retired professionals with thick wallets doing lots of cruising. This hybrid would be amazing for the the mountain road trip. It is impossible to use the V8 on public roads anyway, 3.5l V6 is strong enough in this car and electrical motor just smoothens the engine at full throttle and works magic in the city. Only seen it few time so far in Japan but lexus does very good in here. Great cars.
That hood shot looking in IS FREAKING AMAZING!!! Geeze I always love how you shoot. Even if its a car im not interested in, you still have my view just for your skill and indepthness.
This car speaks to me, especially with the hybrid drivetrain. I don’t think I will ever buy a new car that sells for $100k but I’m in love with the idea of a car this fast that can get such high mpg and still have Toyota/Lexus reliability. If a more affordable car had this drivetrain I’d buy it. Maybe that’s where Toyota is heading with their sports cars in the next 10 years.
no lie, your reviews and the in-depth look into cars w/out bias is fantastic. the editing quality and transitions in your quality etc etc is great. the best on youtube imho. you definitely need more subs and views! thanks for amazing vidoes!
Yep not keen on the sound of this at all. Compared to it's V8 brother there's no contest in the sound dept. Can still see many customers wanting the hybrid for the improved mpg though.
Quality as always... Any chance we get your take on the updated Veloster? It'd be full circle to see if they addressed most of your issues with it from before.
Great review. I'm picking up my LC today. It was a hard choice. I looked at the Maserati GT, used 911 turbo and a used Ferrari California. The California and the Maserati were the two best for me. Both had a naturally aspirated 457hp engine and in the case of the Ferrari, the power to weight ratio along with everything else just made it the clear winner, despite being a 9 year old car. I was deeply disappointed in the 2008 911 Turbo. That turbo lag was horrific and hit really didn't handle as well around corners as I thought it should. I ended up on the LC. I thought it had a good compromise with what I wanted. I want reliability and I'm willing to sacrifice the performance more. I've been a long term Lexus owner. I can recommend the Maserati and Ferrari California if you want a fast and sexy car that may not be as reliable.
Your driver seat shots from outside the windshield take your videos to another level. I love that I never see the camera mount from the shots inside the car. Very cool.
Whether you go for the V-8 or the H is up to you. I would suggest they are both fantastic but here's the real point. If you can find a better car, then go buy it. You can find faster cars. You can find more expensive cars. You can find more fuel economical cars. There are a lot of cars that do one particular thing pretty well but the LC 500 does EVERYTHING REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WELL. It is beautiful. It is fast enough. It handles great. It is comfortable. It is safe. And, it is extremely reliable. I've had my 2018 V-8 LC 500 for just over four years now. It's been a PERFECT CAR. I wouldn't change one single thing about it. Once you learn VOICE COMMAND, you will almost never have to use the trackpad which makes the car much safer than those very dangerous TOUCH SCREENS. So again, if you can find a better car, then go buy it.
We were just in Geneva for the Concours D'lagance this past weekend and they had a bunch of them, it truely is a concept car that can be purchased (if you have the money)
Bought my 500h last year and still loving the car. The only problem I have come across is with the gearing, sometimes it simply loses the plot and especially when I want to play. Not too much of a biggy for me, but can be annoying. I've no problem with the soundtrack, but if it could be turned off at will, I'd be okay with that. As a package, I just adore the car and the presence it brings to the road. Frankly, I do not believe there is a better looking car currently on the market and one that oozes far more quality than cars costing 2 maybe 3 times as much.
Just bought a black lc500h, lol the engine sound is not as good as v8, but I like the instant torque of electric motors and the mpg, and I had 2 other hybrids so I am biased
As an x Lexus hybrid owner now driving a Tesla, what made you stick with this hybrid? I switched because I liked the electric system of my Lexus way more than I liked the gas system so I went with something that had what I liked.
I mean, can't really go wrong with 28 mpg on a car like this. My G35 only gets 19 mpg and I drive 22 miles to work. Thats more than 2 gallons on a daily basis.
@@gnoxycat Tesla's quality and reliability is no where near that of Lexus. Out of 28 auto manufacturers, Teslas came in 27th for quality/reliability. (2022) Lexus came in first place, Mazda second, and Toyota third. (According to Consumer Reports)
@@davepaturno4290 The quality and reliability of Tesla surpasses that of Lexus. My Tesla has never left me stranded, unlike my Lexus that has no way of turning traction control off 100% and was worthless in mild winter weather. Never again will I buy a Toyota or Lexus product. Those cars are less than worthless. Because you do not depend on worthless.
@@gnoxycat According to the tens of thousands of owners, Lexus is the most reliable auto brand. Your tiny data sample has very little credibility compared to data that Consumer Reports has compiled.
While the 5.0L V8 is probably the driver's choice, for the luxury GT mission the LC is trying to get at, I actually pick the hybrid version as the better car. It won't be as fun to push hard & there's no eargasm when you prod the gas pedal, but this is the quieter version thanks to the EV mode operation & you'll be stopping much less for fuel.
Benefit of the hybrid system is much better MPG, and quieter... Some people won't enjoy the V8 sound... I personally LOVE that amazing sounding V8... BUT some people won't
Different audience probably more suited to japan than US. Other than lexus trying to change the image for hybrids. Some people just want a quiet comfortable piece of art to drive I suppose. performance is overall useless and someday people will feel the same when you don't have open roads. Why have all that power when you can't do anything but light to light traffic?
I enjoyed the video..first time commenting...you kind of burst my bubble when you mentioned the engine noise..I thought it sounded good..especially when you were on it and showing the quick shifts...all in all it wouldn't bother me...that color of blue is amazing as well....heard you on the Smoking Tire podcast and am rewatching some of your videos..enjoying the quality and commentary..keep up the great work.
I used to have an older LS600 long wheelbase. It was so unreliable. I switched to the new at the time S63 AMG and it's been reliable for 150k miles and going strong. Always garage kept and maintained. The extra cost of maintenance is well worth the driving pleasure, elegant design and safety.
Even though I´m German myself, I have to agree. BMWs are made of cheap materials like plastic, therefore they break down all the time and Audis are nothing special unless we´re talking about top-of-the-line models like the A7/A8/RSx, yet they cost a fortune. Mercedes Benz are kind of the sweet spot. They´re not too unreliable, they look really good and they feature a substantial and usable amount of tech without breaking your bank too hard. Porsches on the other hand, are made of quality materials, they´re reliable, worth the money and pure driving machines. Still, it´s JDM over everything for me.
A very fine review, both in thoughts and opinions, and visually as filmed. A beautiful car for sure, my thoughts are the 'rhythmic gear change' and synth' engine is pure Gran Turismo video game influenced, very artificial. Cars of this quality should be quiet, or at least have that option when the sound is basically a V6 ringtone..
geese, as usual, the best review on da net period. please do an updated review on the 19 new rf gt mx5 with the higher revving 181hp engine. need ur input before decisions. and thanks. nobody breaks it down like ur channel!
iMANTlS ... It all depends on where you live. I see tons of these all over Tampa and New Tampa , Florida. The v8 would be my pick, but I can really see the why people would go for the Hybrid. I was a tech for Lexus in the early 2000s and their "Synergy" drive system is leap years ahead of the other competition, reliability wise.
@ zbigniewzapora; Depends, warranty still might be around, or if it's Lexus Certified it'll be good for a few more years. Highly unlikely that this car will have any problems outside of warranty...
Most car enthusiasts (like myself), think that for a car to be good it should have a v8, good sounds and HP+trq and we bash on Toyota for doing the opposite. But you know what? Those guys at Toyota knows exactly what the majority wants - quiet, smooth, dull and good mpg. That's why they have been selling cars by the millions! I have a modified BMW 335i and a tuned Lexus IS350 with swapped 2JZ and everyone in my family hates those because they are noisy and stiff. They said, it's hard to drive. They said they would never trade their their Audi A4, Toyota Camry and Corolla for my cars.
After all the hate he puts on BMW now he likes a ``sports car`` ` that weights 2000kg, X3 M40i its 1800kg 540i is 1640kg they are faster , with much better transmission and sound and muuuch more practical. The chanell its nice but he is such a hypocrite. The car looks very good but this is the only thing .
Fantastic review as always, thank you. I am looking at ordering an LC 500. First, I have to have the V8, but my question for you is the wheel size. In your driving of both LCs, do you think the 20" wheel helps with the ride over the 21"? My dealer has one car to test drive, and it has the 21" wheels. We plan to get the car in blue with the tan interior. In owning many different cars in over a 50 year span time, the interior is the one of the finest, cut and stitched materials I have seen.
Great video as always! Any chance you can do a video on a 2018 Touareg R-Line & a 2018 Jaguar F-Pace SVR. You are thorough and I trust your reviews. Thank you for your service to the people, it’s much appreciated.
Great video without any expletives. Your mother will be so proud and the manufacturers will give you more and better cars to review. You are spot on with your assessments. The sound and suspension are the reason I passed on this car. My wife has the LS500h and it is super reliable with great safety features. Keep up the good work.
Incredible review. I never fail to be astounded by how good this guy's videos are. Tell your motor enthusiast friends to subscribe. He deserves so many more subs. Its almost criminal that they aren't at 1 million+ yet
Great review Interesting car no doubt about it, if I was to buy one I'd get the V8. I think manufacturer's need to do a rethink on ride comfort in urban settings instead of sacrificing it for outright performance. I think personally tyre sizes and wheels have gone too far.
So I know about your little incident with the vehicle and I hope you do maybe a fine print on that whole experience...and maybe your perspective on crash mitigation tech in general
John-Michael Shaw What happened? Watching this, noticed he did not say anything negative on the hybrid or the other electronics, which sounded odd. Anyway great review and this car has awesome color indeed.
I have always loved car and the styling but going through so much of you videos i have found a new appreciation and want to learn more and be more technical with car such as you explain on your videos, i know i will take years but i hope to be half a knowledgeable one day. I also want to go into track and real driving, i just need to find some places around me.
I hope Lexus does hybrid sports cars instead of forced induction. For example instead of twin turbo V8(m5, e63s), rear wheel drive V8 with 2 hybrid motors in the front
They are working on turbo v6s and turbo v8s for their F-Sport models. A hybrid setup with extra motors and batteries is simply too heavy for sporty driving unless you make the entire body carbon fiber which would be far too expensive.
Savagegeese' instrument panel shots while driving are the best of all car vids. It is so satisfying just to watch. It looks almost like a CG. How does he do it?
As you mentioned, if you are a road traveler and want to get very good fuel mileage while taking along your significant other, this is car for you. I've seen LC500s with average fuel economy after aggressive driving at 6 miles per gallon. This car will never guzzle gas, nor would a road traveler be driving like a maniac with either LC. My advice is to have both a Mazda MX5 and this car - as long as you don't have a big family.
Excellent detailed and thorough review! I'd probably get the V8 over the hybrid. I've driven both and the V8 is a better Driving Experience. The hybrid costs a little more and wasn't as fun.
As more and more vehicles are made as EVs, I think the hybrid LC will fit right in. I'm wondering if the LC turns into a full EV - faster than the V8 and no more oil changes and smog checks. That will be tempting.
Fair as always, with a clear position for the hybrid version why to buy, enjoy and drive it. Good that Lexus improved the ride quality with current versions. But the weird desk-vacuum-cleaner like sound inside is so horrible!!! thanks you pointed this out again at the end.
Mr. Goose. Thank you for all that you give us. I bought a GT350 in January, in part do to the overall high remarks you had about it. I'm thinking when I'm done paying it off, I'll be in the market for a used LC500 V8. Obviously they're in different categories and price points, but I'm hoping the luxury vehicle depreciation will hit this car hard!!! That, any I don't see many people buying them since it's such an outlier in the Lexus lineup. How do you see this car holding value in the future?
From what you are saying, I think the Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid is a much less irritating and more sporting architecture. I absolutelutely love my Q50, but I think this system will be more succesful, just because it is bolted on a LC500. But the price tag is nearly i8 territory and having driven that car around Oulton Park, it is just mega.
I personally would prefer hybrid over V8. I am not going to take this car to track, and for the city and highway driving this should be more comfortable and cheaper while having almost the same 0-60 time. But, still, considering its price comparing with the V8 I think Lexus could have done better. Put more powerful battery, that gives at least ~100hp. I do not think it should be a problem if Tesla can get from their batteries ~600 hp.
Thank you so much for this review! Due to EU taxes the V8 is way too expensive. So I really consider the hybrid. As for the "fake engine sound": I remember that they do not electronically enhance it - they just use pipes to channel the noise into the cockpit. Can you please check and confirm this? Great review! Thank you!
Omg, why do you have to act like you know everything. He's just saying that taxes are high in the EU for bif engines, and it's normal :) @@freepadz6241
I think the only thing that can be done to the V8 is give it this transmission. It has launch control and it has very close gears. If the V8 which is all about high end power had these gears it would be in its power and all of the time and it would be much faster. But as of the ride quality, I must disagree. When you drive a RCF for a while and then drive this. This car feels just like the RCF but the ride feels like a cloud. Much nicer. Plus having the big wheels in the V8 helps skip through holes and imperfections on the road since they're so big. If you drive the V8 nicely on a highway you can actually get 30mpg. Maybe a bit more. It's just impossible to not want to drive it hard because it sounds so nice. The V8 I drove was at around 23-24mpg despite driving it quite hard.
But if you drove it more often in the city, you'd get 15 MPG. My 2001 Corvette would get 28 MPG while cruising on the highway but averages 16-17 in the city. The LC500h can get far better - 35 on the highway and 30+ in the city.
Mark, I assume this was not the structural blue 'paint' that Lexus recently came out with? Would've been really interesting to see that in real life and could be a collectible LC500 in the future.
Savage If the V8 is a classic Will the classic be pre historic in a few years time because of emission regulation. Or the LC500H is the future even with EV because the charging is taking too long for long haul trip so hybrid is still valid....maybe for the next 15 years.... You did address the matter on who likes this H model.....but how will the ev disruption effect this baby....? I drive a ES300H and love it.
