Harstem is definitely a man of learning--though whether or not that learning has any practical use is another question--but from what little knowledge I have of the Dutch, I think it may also have something to do with how many idioms they seem to have in their language. If you grow up hearing stuff like "Don't just stand there with your mouth full of teeth!" and "He who has butter on his head should stay out of the sun", I have to imagine that you'd find it natural to make crazy comparisons.

I don't think it's that difficult to do. I find myself now making analogies like Harstem. It's like if you go to the beach and you see a lot of people building sand castles you might start doing it yourself. It's like if you grow up and there is just a never ending stream of men coming over to have sex with your mom then you might enjoy the StarCraft 2 ladder.

@@zerglinglover2303 against anything that does bonus to armored they can get wrecked. However Marauders don't slow them, while Ultralisks 5 armor and AoE is pretty good against marines. Their issue is their derpiness, and by the time you get them Terran likely already has had Ghosts. Ultras can be useful to letting your other units close the gap on marines/marauders more effectively.

@@PenguinIceDelta yeah but nobody makes only marines past silver league. Even gold players make marine marauder medivac, which is more than enough to kill ultras in seconds unless you haven't reached critical mass yet. Edit: nevermind, apparently plat players do it too, as showed in this video.

I love it how when Harstem shows the terran build order, there are 2 barracks in construction 2 seconds apart, I almost forgot it wasn't a 2 Rax build but just someone who misplaced their first Rax and immediately rebuilt it.

Harstem, 7 second later CC in Plat is not a huge deal at all. Also building bunker reactively means you do not build it at all, because in Plat most people are not good enough to spot the threat and react in a time manner.

I had the same problem at about platinum too. Yeah, StarCraft is not just a macro game. You can’t just build up. The ironic thing is, it stops being an exponential base building game after maxing out, but the quicker you first max out, the proportionally less you’re playing that game. You’ve essentially optimized the fun out of the game. That’s why I usually max out one or twice, and leave if I haven’t won by that point. Just not fun after that

Idk, as a terran, my main gripe with the lurker is really that it has most of the advantages of the siege tank (while being invisible), while not having the main drawbacks (clunky and slow to deploy). TvT tank battles are a nightmare because both sides have to slowly creep forward with their siege, which makes sense for a siege unit. But zerg just has to find a tiny weak spot (or nydus) and they can walk 15 lurkers in there and deploy in a second. You can't do that against any reasonably decent player with tanks and hope to get away with it. It's like a siege tank that's more forgiving because they also move fast enough to reposition or run if in a bad spot. Unless you have a good amount of bio covering them, there is often no retreat for siege tanks, they're just too slow.

@@methodcafe I mean the styles of zerg and Terran rosters are also entirely different. Terrans roster is compiled of mostly units that out range their opponents equivalent. Utilizing stutter step with siege tank range is getting a ton of firepower out with a quickness, creating extremely efficient trades for the Terran from very early in the game. Zerg is very much speed and "close range" focused so their siege attacker needs to be something designed around the idea of speed and setting ambushes. It gains advantages but loses others. It costs more resources, requires higher tech (and comes later in the game), and has a shorter range. A slow lurker does not work with the Zerg army as it becomes a liability, the previous burrow speed was admittedly a little ridiculous. Lurkers are also essentially a T3 unit as they aren't really viable until Hive Tech upgrades. You have a lot of time to kill a Zerg before Hive tech is a thing. Furthermore Terrans also have Widow Mines which are also earlier tech, poor man lurkers, that have devastating effects with the ability to end a game instantaneously if missed.

2-1-1 is supposed to be moving out around 4:30-4:35, hits the other side by 5:10ish give or take. I feel like if you're going to be this delayed on it, you kind of need to consider branching off and dropping another rax, and two ebays, and hit with 1-1 plus a few tanks, and as you push out drop your 3rd CC, and two more rax. and an armory. you end up hitting like a minute later but you have more units overall, and very likely the better upgrades. I just don't don't like this opening build order vs zerg, because they're gonna have a spore in their main and 4 or 5 queens when it arrives and very likely won't do much.

"the marine doesnt counter everything, thats the ghost" lmao i was about to say. i was watching uthermal's "ghost to gm" and there is literally no zerg counter to ghost, arguably vipers but they counter eachother (emp/snipe vs abduct). they hard counter armored (roach, ultra), light (ling, hydra, bane), siege (lurker), or range (broodlord) units. felt bad for reynor at DH losing after being up 4 bases and 10k bank most of the game.

I think terran race is OP. As terran, you can just build marines and reach 3k MMR, even though you don't understand basic concepts as high worker account for trading units. Just sitting there waiting to die with 13k minerals and 3k gas in the bank in the late game. I actually feel offended when I say I am a 2700 MMR gold 1 toss struggling to reach plat also playing in Europe. The second thing that comes to my mind is that this video is actually directed by the complainer to "show" us lurkers are OP and then quit. Usually European players are very very aggressive. His build order was strictly built for sending waves and waves of marines in the opponent's territory, which European terrans usually do, the best of them attacking 2 bases at once. So, there's something wrong with this picture. Please don't reply to my post with stupid remarks as "toss is imba" or "carriers should be removed". I am just going to say it my self that the carrier is imba, but it's the only toss air unit with high DPS. I try to avoid building carriers most of my games, but the point is that mass marines with Medivacs can utterly destroy a mass carrier army without chargelots and 3-4 colosi or archons (if ghosts aren't there). What this user is trying to "show" us is that he needs better marines to counter literally everything. Who needs reapers, helions, helbats, BC rushes, thors, vikings, siege tanks, liberators, ghosts?

Pros seem to rely on banelings to counter the ghost, but is hardly a counter due to how far a baneling actually needs to travel before closing the gap. And the strat with sneaking in a burrowed infestor to fungle the ghost is not reliable. Ghosts need to be on creep if zerg wishes to kill them. Although sometimes i feel like zerg completly just steamrolls the terran fortified base

The counter to ghost is using your faster units to tax their APM to cause them to choose between controlling their ghosts or protecting a distant base. Banelings are very nice for this because if they aren't Johnny on the spot their ghosts can evaporate, alternatively if you can't get the ghosts with the banes they're still great against structures as a backstab force. You either get a base or their ghosts if you can pull them apart. You can try a neural EMP on the ghosts while doing the backstab but that's pretty hard

Even when I was a kid, when I played games like this, I tried to maximize my economy and build the strongest units available. I can't imagine getting a late-game economy and filling my supply with early-game units. Maybe his plan was to transition into mass battlecruisers but the enemy attacked too soon, so he had to fight back with his harassment army, but if that was the case, why would he blame his loss on anything but the fact that the enemy attacked before he could get his final army online? Who would expect an early-game harassment army to beat a mid/late-game push army? Of course, if his plan was mass battlecruisers, why did he build so many barracks and float so many resources? Issues with battlecruisers vs. Zerg aside, if your preferred strategy is to get a late-game elite army, you really need to be a master of macro and be able to boom your economy as quickly as possible, especially when your enemy is kind enough to leave you alone like in this game.

In fairness to the terran, given he's at a lower level, he probably did hit with 3 less Marines than usual, it's just that "usual" is signifactly below a high level execution. For the test analogy, it's like him saying "i struggled a bit, i think i did worse than usual" and it turns out he had a C average and instead got a low D. Which, bless him, is better than a lot of people. Most people don't understand thay you just need to write shit down on the exam paper to get marks. You could stab yourself, bleed on your English paper, and thus get marks for talking about how lady macbeth thought there was blood on her hands for 2 acts before she died of insanity.

The lurker isn't imba because it has obvious weaknesses - can't shoot air, not that great against single targets/concave, very expensive. Maybe as good as a siege tank but also costs more. Meanwhile, ghosts have no weakness. The best against them is bane but even if you kill them with banes you lose money.

harstem i've played maybe 30 game of starcraft back when i was 13 years old. i played only arcade. But you made me think, wow everyone who plays this game (NA) sucks. So i gave it a try. I hopped directly into ranked as protoss. went stalker zealot voidray every game. At first i was using my mouse to build things because i didnt know what key they were. i only used F2 every game. after my 5 placement matches i won 3 and lost 2. my 1st and last games. i got plat 2 in placement. i have to say i did try my best. and i have watched a good 10 of your videos. also i dont know the rank system or placement system so i might be wrong. BUT. if i beat a gold and 2 plats and only lost my 1st game cause i was visually confused at what buttons to press. and my last game because he was a D2 terran player. I gotta say. the people in your videos really do suck lol. though sadly i think im going to stop there. i prefer halo wars because im too lazy to macro for economy. im sure ill get some flame for this post saying im trash for getting plat 2. but ive got 40 games in my entire life and 35 of those were 10 years ago. anyway. let me know what you think. did i do good or bad? whats the average rank in this game? love the videos and you ALMOST got me back into playing. but at least i downloaded it and tried thanks to you. who knows maybe i will come back one day. PS the reason i dont like the game is 100% because of the base macro. probes and building is too much amp for me and i dont want to dedicate time into muscle memory and stuff. that why i prefer halo wars 1. Could anyone let me know what Percentile i would be for getting plat 2?
