Perfect review on this headphone I just received mine and everything Sine Craft said is spot on. I found the best music or genre is classical with violin 🎻 the treble is up front with a big soundstage and wide . Where as the Arya has a recessed v shape soundstage with a forward midrange sound which sound great with a piano. But with the Susvara’s is way way overall balanced with a huge width and depth soundstage and within it everything is perfectly blended with all frequencies coming at you precisely no dry or bloat with the Susvara’s. It’s very very organic and lifelike in a headphone that I have listen to even more so than the 1266 TC. Which the TC having a great resolution and clarity you never thought possible. It too has a massive soundstage width and depth but can loses to the Susvara with the naturalness. This is why you see so many high end headphone people owning both of them because they compliment each other perfect.
I think the HE6se V2 is a great headphone... you get to experience Planar drivers and you will need to get a pretty nice amp to drive them... so in the end you get a great planar headphone and you will now have an amp that will drive any other headphones you purchase in the future.. I just got a pair at the sale price of $549.. so a good deal there and I'm pairing it with the ifi Diablo amp... it drives them very well and of course the amp will drive my other headphones... so all is good.... these are a bargain at $549 ... if you EQ them they sound even better... oh... the cable that comes with the headphones are a joke.... so you will need to upgrade the cable... so a balanced cable is best as that in most amps is double the wattage...
Indeed you kinda need everything you got but I recommend experimenting with volume matching different gain stages, it seems to affect sound quality there too. My theory is that in different gain stages, you're changing the volts x amps configuration for same amount of watts. If your amp is strong enough I also recommend comparing Single Ended to Balanced, as some people say SE gave it a better flavor. I don't know, but the wise ones seem to say you want your watts coming out skewed more towards amps than volts, for this headphone.
Hi, wondeful Review" Iam using a Grace Design m920 Dac and aTopping a90 Amp for more Power. Sound is pretty good i would say, but in my Opinion its still to less Power and sometimes my he6se he v2 sounds a little bit thin. What Amp would U recommend for a really fat Sound? 👍🐬🙏👌🌞
One of the most affordable ways to get get gobs of power is to use a speaker amp with an attenuator box (just be careful). The A90 is a very powerful but that doesn't mean it will have the right synergy. I've found that richer, fuller sounding class A amps tend to pair best. There are lots of good balanced class A amps on the used market. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YN7zy2SdRGU.html
Flux Labs FA-10, 16 watts into 32 ohm, Class A; great soundstage, clarity, impact. Clean and clear but not a harsh amp (unlike I think the Schiit Ragnarok can be.)
I love 'em but you can't really judge them in anyway for good or bad. They can be worse than a cheapo or better than a flagship. And it's all based on the marriage to the amp. These headphones can ONLY be judged as a married couple, not in isolation. You need a VERY HIGH POWER amp reviewed as good for low impedance low sensitivity planar. That is, your watts need to be skewed as coming more on the amps side of things, rather than the volts side of things. (For those who don't know, 1 volt x 2 amps = 2 watts, and 2 volts x 1 amp = 2 watts). Known good pairings: Hifiman EF1000, Flux Labs FA-10. Don't find them good on the Ragnarok 2 (some say Rag 1 is good though.) There are numerous other good amp pairings and you'll have to ask around or research a lot of review. CONS: these aren't QUITE as good of a deal as they seem because you need to invest in a monster amp with good quality. On the plus side, that good amp will do nicely with everything else too. PROS: these things are EVEN BETTER than the good reviews you hear, when you scale them up with INCREDIBLE HULK power. That's power quantity. As for power quality, it's what you'd expect, they will reveal the quality of that amp, so you want a good one not just for watts but quality of design. Recommend Class A but I ~have~ heard them sound amazing on tubes... but 99% of tube amps don't have right kinda power delivery to be a good pairing. You need to ask around and research, as I said.
I've heard a couple people mention the Topping A70 Pro and Singxer SA-1 for good amp pairings. I'll try to reply to my own comment after I get my A70 pro soon
Is the amp really that important ? Did you volume match and see if more power made a difference at same volume ? It's so easy to fool human perception. Do you think 2W is sufficient ?
Yes, in my experience the amp really is that important if you want to get the most out of these headphones. You can certainly run them on less powerful amps but to realize their full potential gobs of power is a must. You might be able to sneak by with 2 watts but I'd probably look for 4+. Watts are not the only factor in amplifier matching. The circuit design of the amp, its impedance, and current swings can all be a factor but now we're getting outside of my pay grade ;)
Yes, really very much so. If you're not into buying a strong amp with it, you can get somewhat close to it with HE-560 V4. It's also a great headphone.
I think the LCD-X is a outstanding headphone other than it’s overall size and weight. Easy to pair with so many amps and dacs out there vs the HE6 SE V2 which really is amp and dac picky like he said about it.
Jotunheim minimum but recommend a high power amp that's been reviewed as good with low impedance planars. Some high power amps were designed more with high impedance dynamic drivers in mind.
if they ever make a silver version with the same paint they use the same metal paint and everything that the SUSVARA I hope you can get your hands on and review the SNORRY NM-1 and Apos Caspian Open-Back Headphone good to see you're making more videos with your enchanting voice I think the minimum you need for that headphone is 20 watts or you can get something like schiit RAGNAROK amplifier with a quarter inch and that will push them they'll be bumping and thumping in no time I want to pick those up but the black paint on the adjustments is questionable I love the blue
It's a good theory and I tried it. Ragnarok II sounded really shrill/sharp/edgy for me in a decidedly unacceptable and rejectable way. I heard Ragnarok 1 may be different because different and better power delivery to headphones, but never tested that. Also, sadly, the Ragnarok killed my HE6seV2's when I fiddled with the gain button and got it too high. Both drivers dead. RIP. Had to get a replacement. I ~~highly~~ recommend Flux Labs FA-10 for these, total opposite of edgy shrill on the Rag, oh yeah, so damned good.
"Better" is a loaded word. They will undoubtedly be very different. I think at $560 they offer an amazing value per dollar, a taste of what really expensive Hifimans have to offer. But... they will require a properly powerful amp to get the most out of them.
@@SineCraftAudio I would quibble a little about this notion that these headsets require powerful amplifier. Powerful in what sense? Measurements say that it takes 1.37 V of driving voltage to reach 94 dB SPL out of this headset, which is the kind of listening level that gives permanent hearing damage in couple of hours. To reach this level using a 64 ohm load, which translates to P = U*U/R = 1.37 * 1.37 / 64 = 0.029 watts. So it is about 29 milliwatts, a more common unit of power in context of headsets. Many headsets operate at voltages that are tenth of this. Hifiman Ananda, for instance, requires mere 0.17 V of voltage to reach equivalent SPL, and this drives 25 ohm load, so the same formula is 0.17 * 0.17 / 25 = 0.0011 milliwatts. When manufacturers give efficiency ratings, they in fact give the SPL often as level achieved per milliwatt of power, and this one requires mere 1.1 milliwatts for 96 dB SPL. Now, I grant that there is about a factor of 30 difference between these headsets' power requirements, so maybe it is indeed justifiable to say that the other one requires a powerful amplifier. On the other hand, the power actually required by this "power-hungry" headset is similar to what is used by a single standby LED. It is not a wonder that people drive headsets out of things like Apple USB DAC without an amplifier because almost anything can be engineered to have few dozen milliwatts of power behind it. This headset is not limited by power, because practically no headset is asking for more than trivial amount of power. Its use with amplifiers is actually limited by the maximum voltage the amplifier is designed to provide, and there is a vast variation here due to some headsets wanting 0.1 V and others wanting 10 times more. Edit: spelling fixes, apologies.
Amit, have you heard them for yourself? I, and many others C2 users, understand the math and power theory, but there is an absolute difference when using ample power. Heck, my THX 789 ran out of juice at moderate volumes when only getting 1V input signal. Upping to 4-6V balanced input remedied that, and the bass improved even more when running from speaker taps. Headroom and peaks definitely needs big juice.
It will be moar better in moar aspects though you will find rare tracks that Sundara is better on. However, unlike most headphones, you can't talk about how good or bad it is without first marrying it to an amp. Let no one say how good or bad these are without also mentioning which amp they're paired with. They will range from WORSE than a Sundara all the way to two or three tiers better, depending on the amp. Find an amp with lots of watts that's reviewed as a good pairing for low impedance low sensitivity planar headphones. Hifiman EF1000, Flux Labs FA-10. Not (in my opinion) Schiit Ragnarok 2. I've heard it sound really good on some others at a hifi meet, but forgot the names of them.
A significant (and expensive) upgrade, yes. It depends what qualities you are looking to improve? More nuanced detail, more fluidity or better timbre, more easily driven by more amps, more bass...
Nice review 👍 I've been eyeing these for a while now. I currently own: Hifiman Arya v2, Focal Clear OG, Fostex Th900, Modhouse Argon MK3, Senn HD 600. In your opinion, am I missing something by not having the HE-6se v2? SD is currently running a promo with Adorama to pick these up for $599 new. 😁
At $600 they are one of the best deals in head-fi game. Out of what you have I should say they are are kind of Arya/Th900 blend. When properly driven they are one of the most impactful HPs you can get under $1,000. You have a nice collection at this point so hard to say if you are missing something, but I don't feel like they are redundant to anything you have.
@@SineCraftAudio That's, man. I appreciate you getting back so quickly. I might have to pick them up out of curiosity alone, nevermind the great price. 👍
