Jamie and John : Thank you guys for this once again very informative video! I hope many King fans will join you soon! On my side in France, I try to do as much publicity as possible and I talk about your channel to all my friends and correspondents. God protect you and thank you again! "Teddy" (or Patrick 😉) 🙋♂️🇫🇷🗼
You are so very welcome, Patrick! And thank YOU for a fantastic shout-out on your channel and for helping us spread the word! I haven't had a chance yet, but I'm going to share your video and spread the love as soon as I can! 😁
Thank you very much John and Jamie for the update on the expensive Blue Hawaii set that has been edited it is an absolute outrage did they think no one would notice. And as John correctly stated this is on a collectors label not Sony legacy a real shame and appreciate you guys in bringing to our attention the whole thing has left a sour taste in my mouth thank you cheers Carl 😂 .
Hi, Carl! You're very welcome! And yeah, I don't get why FTD thinks we won't notice this stuff, but hopefully fans talking will ensure that the sessions releasing later this year will be complete! And I agree on the sour taste - it's very frustrating, especially since the book is SO GOOD!
Just received a brand new copy of the Making of Blue Hawaii boxset from Graceland a couple of days ago, August 2024. If anyone watching is interested, even though they are not listed on Graceland's website, they still do have some and I think they also still have the Making of Jailhouse Rock, which I ordered from them in April. If interested, you have to call Graceland directly, it's in the FAQ section. I bought this for the 2 large books included and the 4 CDs were bonus for me. The sound quality is great and they have been very enjoyable to listen to. Great channel! Keep up the great work.... P.S. Any chance you guys will redo the large Boy from Tupelo book video, now that you have the book support? In the original video, the book is so small relative to the whole video....would love to see that one redone! That book is awesome. I don't have it, just the smaller one from the newer release. Thank again for all the work you guys do.
Very cool! Thank you for sharing that info! As for redoing the Boy From Tupelo Set with the new setup.. you know, that's not a bad idea! We might just have to do that, if we can find a new thing to discuss about it while we do!
Fantastic studio! Have read the book, and I am eternally grateful to all fans (Pål Granlund is, as you probably know, head of our Norwegian fan club) who produce books/vinyls and more for us fans. Again, many thanks to you two as well for the insight you give to the rest of us, at least me. TCB!⚡️
I got my copy in about a month ago. I agree that the the book is awesome! I would not be surprised at all if they didn’t release the entire sessions on the upcoming “Blue Hawaii Session Box” later this year. Which will mean more money out of my pocket. Of course, I am an Elvis fan so I am used to that. 😂 I could also see them taking the easy way out and just releasing the cd’s from this set. I got the MSG FTD in the same day, and yes it sounds so good. I never thought “Prince from Another Planet” could be outdone, but Matt did it with this release. TCB⚡️and take care guys.
Jamie i agree 100%; FTD give me the "complete BH brown Bag", that's all i need. I have "The Making of Blue Hawaii" Edition but i'm really disappointet that the Sessions has not the complete dialogue in between! The Books are nice and beautiful but a complete Session is much more Important imo. Thank You John and Jamie!
You're very welcome, Harald! Yep, we're also the "complete brown paper bag sessions society" 🤣🤣 Yeah, the books are fantastic, but done a disservice by the discs, for sure!
Jamie; i think about another interesting Anniversary: Making STAX Studio (July/December plus Palm Springs September Recordings) 1973-2023; A "Complete Brown Paper Bag FTD Release" 5-6 CD Set Release, WITHOUT the regulary Versions...; let me dream on my friend😁 @btw i Really Don't Need an absolutely "Overpriced 2 Book Edition with 1973 Live Pics"...respectfully😉
@@haraldtrittner4396 LOL! I'm going to make "brown paper bag sessions" a thing, aren't I? 🤣 Funny enought about the regular versions, John and I actually have a Quick Take coming next week that talks about the regular masters being on sessions releases, so your timing couldn't be better! On the books: I will say, as expensive as they are, these books (at least when they're still retail price) are definitely expensive, but pretty important - with lots of research, time, and care put into them that bring pieces of history to light that we didn't have before. I've had the pleasure of speaking more with David Engligh lately, and hope to have him on the show at some point to talk more about the time and expense it takes to do all of what they do for these. That all having been said, I'd love to see some of this information available in a more budget-friendly format, eventually. 😁
Hello fellas, Thanks for another great show. On the mastering issue for the audio I will say I prefer Vic’s work over Sebastian’s. That’s just my personal preference. I just can’t understand why he hasn’t been there en engineer for all releases, but his track record is pretty solid. As far as the editing, and what not, really makes me think what would Elvis think about having “everything” released that he probably never thought of in 1 million years for us to here now. There are some part of sessions that I prefer were not released officially, as far as the foul language, etc. it’s not that I would mind, it’s what others could think and say if this were ever to get out.
Hi, Francesco! You're very welcome! And very interesting, as I usually prefer Sebastian (though Vic is amazing, too) I can understand that thinking, wondering how Elvis would feel, though if it was up to him, we'd never have heard any outtakes, so that ship sailed long ago - even while Elvis was alive, which is a wild thought!
Hi guys, I’m just curious if y’all collect Elvis on vinyl? Maybe cd’s, or Tapes? I am so proud of my Elvis on what I have I just wanted to share with Yous Guyz. LOL Have a great day.
That's awesome, Francesco! We love hearing about fellow fans' collections! As for us, we have a chunk of everything, but mainly it's CDs. John has a ton, and I think I have over 1,200? And my last count was back in 2007, so maybe 1500 at this point!
Guys you really take Elvis Geekness to a new level!!! Love it. I agree the session releases should be TOTALLY COMPLET!! Here's a question ( not related to Blue Hawaii ) I heard on an UK Elvis channel and thought you guys may know the answer. What is the strange squeak sound heard just before the Guitar solo on So Glad Your Mine? I cant find an alternate take on line to compare it to. I've grown up just digging the recording but it has always been on my mind as well as these other fans who brought the question up. Interested in your ideas on this.
Not EAP but I believe I can attempt to answer this question as I had the same curiosity about it a while ago. I believe the sound you are describing from before the solo is an excited yelp from one of the musicians (likely Elvis but please don’t hold me on that haha). To me it sounds like a “yee-haw!” and there are similar exclamations on other Elvis tracks. Sadly the January 30, 1956 sessions that included So Glad You’re Mine are no longer known to exist, so there is nothing to compare to. In fact nearly all of the Elvis session reels produced in New York are thought to be lost. The exception is the February 3rd, 1956 session which produced Lawdy, Miss Clawdy and Shake, Rattle & Roll. It’s possible slate announcements and count-ins from the master take of So Glad You’re Mine exist since another track from the same session, One-Sided Love Affair, was bootlegged with its pre-take session chatter decades ago.
@@ryankomitor7391 Hi Ryan. Thank you for your input, To me it sounds more like a mechanical sound from an instrument or such. I did not know the session do not exist any longer , what a shame!!!!
Great answer, Ryan! And thank you, Ken, our geekdom knows no bounds! 🤣🤣 And yep, the sound is a person - sounds to me like possibly Bill Black but could be Elvis due to the volume of the first half of it - making like a "wee-haw" sound (at the "haw" part, the person turns their head and so the sound drops quickly). 😁 And such a shame that the sessions are lost, most likely destroyed or taped over. All I need is a time machine and my multitrack recorder, lol
@@EAPSociety Thanks Jamie, but I'm still not convinced its a human voice. I have played it to other members of our band - One agrees with you that it could be a voice but the others cant pin point it... They say its sounds like a clarinet note but of course there were no horns near that session. oh well 😜
Hey Jamie John Elvis: Is "The Making Of Blue Hawaii" got mine on CD FTD be nice to have book and cds are kee making same music on it or get some more good song from elvis keep up cool video guys long live elvis
Hey Jamie and John , how are you friends? 😀its Lior , great video, i got this box , and still sealed, im sure i would enjoy the book for sure , i agree with you with what you said about the editing thing.....Jamie love the Blue Hawaii shirt ;) 😉where you got it ?
Hey, Lior! We're good, hope you are, too! Very busy lately, but good. And you'll absolutely love the book, it's fantastic! The editing is a shame, though the discs sound good! The shirt I'm wearing is one that Graceland used to sell in the early 2000s - there are some out there if you look up "Blue Hawaii shirt" but this particular brand is harder to find now, if I remember correctly. 😁
Oh, It's kind of insane (how many shirts we have), especially if you count John's and mine combined! I'll have to break more of mine out toward the end of this season. 😁
Happy to! Once I get caught up with more things, I have a very special addition in mind for the channel, and I think the shirts are a great way to start! And if I might make a suggestion if you're looking: try a search for "vintage Elvis Week shirt" on eBay. 😁
I heard there would have needed to be an extra disc to fit all the sessions on. It’s a great set and sounds superb, but hopefully the complete audio comes out. Also of note the sessions book as part of the set list some instrumental tracks not included. Maybe we don’t need the original album on these releases to make space for every little moment recorded?
I like that the masters are included actually (we have a video coming soon talking about why it's important), but if it takes an extra CD, they should just charge the extra for that and release it complete. In this day and age, there just isn't a good reason (other than messing with the fan base for profit) to not have the sessions be complete.
Great video guys, I wonder how this set compares to the boot leg version of “Mele Mai Ka Lani Mai” 3 cd box set of a couple of years ago, re: studio chatter? I haven’t checked myself! cheers!
Hi, Mal! This does have things on it that aren't on that set, but the set also has things not found on this. Very frustrating, but hopefully the CD set later is complete!
Guys I have this new book set not played it yet as I bought it to sell I am however waiting for the CD only set and that will be my go to. Obviously hearing your opening statements about the edits straight away filled me with despair, frustration and anger!!!!!, Ernst and his crew clearly don't listen to what the completists fans want just when we think they have turned a corner they go and do this. These releases are aimed at the hardcore fans who want it all and what should be the ultimate release of this session is nothing more than a sham!!!!!! As much as I appreciate what Ernst brings to us stuff like these edits shows utter contempt and disregard for what some fans want. In my view the buck stops with Ernst these edits go into the very same category as concert releases at the wrong speed it's simply not acceptable and if Ernst can't get it right this far into the game then there needs to be changes. Like Col Parker this man has been at the helm way to long and is making mistakes that should not be happening and like Col Parker should have been fired a long time ago!!!!!!! Sorry but this really is how I feel its a let down and something that doesn't need to be this way.
Hi, Biff! Yeah, edits are extremely annoying - however, I recently heard some things that make me think that the CD-only version might be complete. I will keep you posted! But if you haven't seen the books, they seriously are amazing, and I can't wait to do a deeper dive on the channel the next time John comes up for more filming!
I hope you win the bet Jamie really does need to be complete absolutely no reason for any other option. I still don't understand why this has been edited seems pointless.... Keep up the great work guys love this channel.
Thanks, Biff! I actually hope I lose, because then we'd have a complete session of Blue Hawaii! 😁 And I have a video next week saying why we might be getting it complete, which makes me feel better!
@@EAPSociety Look forward to that.... I would be one happy guy if the CD only set is complete I will be listening intently aa we don't need another Viva Las Vegas fiasco right.
Off topic I know, but I'd love to hear your opinion on the new Aloha Legacy release, following the more expensive FTD last year with less content and whether the FTD should have been a more typical Classic album.
Hi, Steven! As for the Aloha set... it's maddening. I get that they're running out of anniversary releases to push, but there's only so much a fanbase should put up with, frankly. And if that's what they're going to do, it might not be a bad idea to wait anytime something big hits on an anniversary that the main label might put out.
Hi, Diana - we tend to stay away from that for copyright reasons, but RU-vid is making that easier for future videos, so that may change in the future!
