It always boggles my mind how this was not a soundtrack album. This no doubt would have been another number one album. I would love to have you guys do a video on what they should have done album wise during Elvis' career. Viva Las Vegas, Standing Room Only, The Lost Sessions. So many examples of what could have been.

Hi Jamie & John. I appear to have a slightly different version of the FTD "Viva Las Vegas" you show. Everything is the same as yours including the track info. But, the colour on mine is less dynamic, and more of a natural coloured look than your version. Also, the CD itself is like most standard FTD versions. I also have the Viva Las Vegas Sessions as I am sure you do as well. Again, like all of the Sessions Box Sets is presented in stunning detail. I have to agree with you Jamie, it would be nice to have ALL the takes of the 700 + songs Elvis recorded while alive. As I am sure Jamie you will agree, having all the takes from all the songs gathered together in one place would be mind blowing. However, not many would have the patience to sit through thirty takes of a particular take. I would, Elvis is building a song to its final take when doing so. Having said that, I have the CD called "The Perfect One" a two CD set of first takes. As the blurb says..."often the first take was the best"? And they all sound great on that CD. stay safe and go well.

-------------- for me, this is the best example of a 'solid' mid 1960s Elvis flick & soundtrack, before sinking (due to the studios giving garbage in the way of movie scripts & songwriting).

@@Allen-vl7zq or no. I’ve just had a look online. I can get a VLV vinyl ftd for £250 but I can’t find a Tucson 76 misprint ftd anywhere for sale. So it must be rarer. The VLV vinyl I’ve seen has been for sale for 2 months so it’s not that sought after!

I have a bootleg LP of all the songs from Viva Las Vegas, but of course no outtakes. I might try to get an album with the outtakes, it would be fun to listen to, especially if Ann-margret is on there with Elvis, adlibbing or talking between takes.

Leave it to rca to only release an EP of one of the best 60s soundtracks,it definitely should have been an LP! The movie should have replaced "my rival" and "yellow rose of texas" with "you're the boss" and the very cool "night life"!

Quite overrated as a soundtrack. A few good ones for sure, but not to different from the other soundtrack albums of the day. 😊

~ The visual reproduction for the front cover of that FTD was really, really bad. Not only are the colors over-saturated, but the image of Elvis is closer up compared to the photo on the original U.S. extended play cover. Also, two of the song titles are in black lettering, while the original had white lettering for those two song titles. As for Lene Reidel's mastering skills... Yikes!!

It always gets me mad when I think of the horrible job the director did shooting Elvis doing the viva Las Vegas number. A lot of people are not aware that the director was working against Elvis, because he wanted to impress Ann margaret, who he use to date.

They probably thought there weren't enough Elvis songs in the film to make up a soundtrack album. EPs filled the gap for fans of the day. The mistake was not making the FTD a public release. They seem to think soundtracks are for collectors only. I loathed the double features releases. They showed no love for the product or the people that would have bought them. How many of the cut songs were filmed I wonder ? Again the official releases of the movie's on DVD give us hnothing extra. The FTD Las Vegas Vegas soundtrack is very worthwhile but it does leave us wanting more and it shouldn't be for collectors only. The sound is ok but I prefer more radical mixing that showcase the musicians as well as Elvis. He hated his voice too high up in the mix and remixing gives us a chance to enhance the often tinny sound of the originals.
