Hello my Friends. In my final Video for this year i wanna have a look at a very simple and very effective Method to do Sidechaining with the LFOs on the Elektron Octatrack / Octatrack MK2.

i love my headphones! they are not produced anymore. so if anybody has some of these left in good shape: i take them !! :-) these are AKG K540 btw. most comfortable Hifi Headphones with a very linear Sound they ever made!

How is it "sidechaining"? It's just an lfo, you change position of a kick or whatever and it ain't worth nothing.

i miss the sidechain input in the compressor effect of octatrack. That lacks. The lfo method cannot handle kick variations.

Hey, I know this is an old video now, and very helpful! I'm kind of desperate to understand how the lfo speed an multiplier settings work together.. how does x16 and 32 step actually relate, what do these values actually mean in relation to each other?

Speed is the Base Speed of the LFO, which is time synced unless you change that in LFO Setup. Multiplier does exactly what the name implies: It multiplies that speed x-Times. This allows for LFO Speeds up to Audio Range Levels. Sometimes useful if you wanna achieve some radical changes in the sound.

Hey bruv, great tutorial, I'm assuming this sidechaining trick only works for 4/4 beats though right?

thanks dear friend! Yes, this only works for 4/4 Signatures! More advanced Stuff can be done by Resampling your Track and using Trigless Trigs to do the Job. This is how i did it before with the Digitakt and the Rytm for example. Its a bit more time consuming, but you can fake Sidechain with literally any Time Signature the Sequencer is able to reproduce.

I want to use just a mic ( no other mixer besides the Octatrack or vocal processor) straight into the Octatrack mk2. What do you suggest for a functioning AND quality microphone? Thanks.

I am saving to buy one. Got excited when I saw the video title and then a bit disappointed to learn that it was not actual side-chaining, but a side-chain like "effect". Doesn't the octatrack have a compressor insert? Also; can you trigger some sort of envelope or automation from each time a note is played, for instance, if you wanted to make the sidechain effect in a non-regular pattern?

Thanks mate. And have fun! The Octa has a lot to offer and so there's a lot to discover. Always worth the time, especially with the new Update which finally allows to change parameters on multiple steps at once. This is already the standard since the Analog Line first appeared, but it took Elektron till 2020 to finally make this possible on the Octatrack as well :-) I love it!

Es ging um die trigless locks, hattest kurz angesprochen, daß du es in nem anderen vid bearbeitet hattest. vllcht auch falsch verstanden. Wie auch immer, danke für deine Antwort und deine vids!!!

Achso, das hast du gemeint :-) Da musst du nur nach den Sidechain-Dingern mit dem Digitakt gucken und dann findest du sie. Die Trigless Trigs sind ja der Weg, wie man das auf den anderen Elektron Maschinen machen kann die die Sync-Modes nicht haben. Funktioniert am Ende aber nur mit dem Digitakt oder dem Rytm MK2, weil man den Sound, der gesidechaint werden soll, als Loop recorden muss damit es funktioniert. Ist also deutlich limitierter das Ganze.

But isn't this only working with a 4 to the floor kick? If I'd like to do some electro stuff and vary the kick it's not really possible anymore right...?

Yep, geht auch. Muss man die Thru Machines benutzen; die haben dieselben Funktionen was da angeht. Hab ich bei meinem letzten Video vom Januar genau so gemacht, um den Sidechain auf die beiden Behringer Kisten zu kriegen :-) Grüße

hagaha heute ist es wieder passiert habe echt durchfall von speed dachte zuerst ok chillig erst wird nur ein pups habe mir komplett in die hose geschissen junge
