I have that exact same isolator. Here's another little tip - Cut an 8" -12" length of 0 or 2 gauge cable and add alligator clamps to both ends. If your starter battery dies, you can use the jumper cable to bridge the isolator to the connections on either side, which will allow you to start your truck off of your Aux battery.

Great video. Nice and quick explanation. One thing to point out: It’s very important to make sure you put the add a fuse in the right way. If it’s in backwards then you end up bypassing the fuse. With the car running you need to remove the fuse and test which side of the socket is still hot. The wire needs to run off in the opposite direction. I have a ‘96 Ford and needed to add two of these for a review camera and monitor.

Hi, can't you just take power from the input of the isolater (thus comming from the 12V starter battery) and feed it to the isolator to measur if it's over 13.xV? (put a fuse in between)

Why not just plug in to the positive and negative of the car battery terminals? The isolator would work just fine correct? Only wondering because I already have two wires ran all the way to the back of the van, a + and - from the main battery.

I have that also, but this is just to tell the smart isolator when to turn on so it doesn't take power when the car is not running. There are a few different kinds of isolators, some have this option and some don't!

I think you made a mistake here. The wire you connected to the fuse is marked "ground" on the product diagram in Amazon, unless you had another wire there.

So will the current flow between the batteries be exactly what the alternator is outputting and not 140amps?

It will be whatever your alternator can output and possibly restricted depending on the size of isolator you get.

@@SolidWoodWorx So if my alternator only puts out 18 amps, is there any reason I couldn't use 10-12 gauge wire for setting up the battery isolator?

Is the fuse you tap into ONLY dependent on being off while the van is off and on at the proper voltage while on? I paid an RV electrician to go over my system but it doesn't work after he tied into the ignition's fuse it was- I believe. I ran into a guy later that recommended piggybacking onto the accessory/dashboard fuse instead like he did with his system. My selenoid/isolator isn't as nice as this either. It's a steel one by Hersey, kinda oval looking. I'll be using this for a lifepo4 though. Maybe a DC to DC like the likes of.. whatever that bright blue brand is- would work better for my setup.

I would definitely check that your dual battery isolator can be used with a lithium battery!
