Thanks Maive! This is a great way to use up your old eye shadows so that they don't go to waste. For clay artists that can't afford Mica powders that can be quite expensive, you can purchase inexpensive eye shadows at dollars stores to achieve the same effects. Also, if you just need a brown accent you can also use spices like cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and powdered cocoa to create the tones you want. Even spices like Tumeric(which is yellow)can be used. You can also use powdered food coloring if you have it on hand. Just stop and think, almost anything can be used. Even the red residue that's left on your fingers when working with red clay can be smudged on a cheek to create a blush look. Happy crafting everyone! Take care and Merry Christmas! Dee😊👍🎄☃

I never wear make up and only started buying eye shadow just because of polymer clay. :) So since I know I will never use it on my eyes I don't mind taking it right from the tray. I found the local dollar store has a wonderful selection of eye shadow for $1 each. - Heidi

BlackCat2 Dollar stores are the most wanted bderful places, aren't they? I'm always looking in them for crafting supplies. Often, like the eyeshadow you bought, they're not even things initially meant for crafting.

Hi there, thank you. I don't consider myself pretty but thank you ^_^ I am fluent in three languages (English, Spanish & Italian) and I have basic knowledge of German and French. I also studied Latin at school, but I remember very little ^_^

I’ve not been able to get the eyeshadow to stick to the clay once it’s cured. It comes off. Any idea what might cause this issue?

@Charmed Life77 Try adding it before you bake it as she does in the video. The eye shadow will probably adhere during the baking process. And if you have trouble after - try coating it with a sealer like mat or glossy mod podge or try a little hair spray on it. And oh, in the video, she says to MIX the micas with water based varnish and then paint the baked clay at 00:20.

:v yo también uso sombras porque los mica powders no es tan común que los vendan acá en México y si acaso los venden están super caros, pero es verdad lo que dices, el efecto es exactamente el mismo :v

I've been using eyeshadow on polymer jewellery recently. Afterwards I've been applying 3 layers of fimo gloss. Today I noticed a piece I'd been wearing for a week was starting to lose some of the color from the eyeshadow... Any ideas why or how I'd fix it ? The eyeshadow was applied before baking, but still quite easy remove after baking. It seemed perfect after glossing... Until today...

Mmm...I don't know. Different products will work differently on different clays, it's difficult to pinpoint exactly why this happens. The same can happen with acrylic paint. It could be the varnish reacting with the eye shadow, not in a bad way, maybe it just means that it can lose intensity over time, even though I would've thought that would happen over a longer period of time as with everything else.

Thanks for the reply. Nah it's literally just worn off. I'm thinking of covering it with some bake and bond and bake it again and if that doesn't work I'll buy some liquid clay and try that I guess.

@@charliesmith122 I was having a walk today and suddenly thought of your issue and a possible solution. Try mixing some of the mica powder/eye shadow with the glaze/varnish and then apply it to the piece. This way thr powder is encased within thr varnish instead of sitting underneath. If you try, let me know how it goes 😉❤

Natasha, you did bring up a great thing. Mica powders need to only be used as craft materials, as some have had reactions to the ingredients used in artists mica powders.
