Nice vid. Can you show how you line them up on the piece of metal? I've heard of 1 trick using a piece of angle iron, but that does not keep things perfect in all 3 dimensions.
I'm trying to visualize how I would do this with a two-piece drop-down ramp for my trailer. The barrel hinges would be on the bottom of the ramp holding together the top and bottom sections. I was thinking of welding them to two lengths of angle and then welding the angle to the frame of the two sectiions.
Except one mistake on that tab and there's no fixing it. The reason why doors are made with individual hinges is so they can adjust if there's any binding. If you have any binding you're screwed, nothing can be done.
If you weld a tab so the gate can't be lifted off then how will you install the gate? Meaning you have to put the gate on, bring a portable welder and weld that tab on. Another option might be a security screw with a tab so that someone has to defeat that screw to get your gate lifted off. Still there's a reason why 99.9999% of doors have three independent hinges.
Nice vid, only one thing. It's not a safe way to mount the hinge like that. If it is for security it won't work cos the thief can lift it off the hinges.
