Quick Tip - How to Tighten Tripod Legs

I didn't finish the video I really wanted to do (on sculpting with polymer clay) so this is just a quick tip. It won't work for all tripods, but it should work for most of the ones that use hinges to tighten the legs.

Saved me from buying a new tripod thank you sir. A little tape is a much cheaper solution to filming a simple establishing shot 😁

Thank you for this awesome idea! It saved me from purchasing yet another tripod. I cut my tape long and thin and loop it all the way around both ways (so it stays on) and double it when needed. I also plan to take my (Scotch Blue #2090) tape with me to all of my shoots and apply the tape (doubled as needed) under the locks once I open my tripod to the correct height, to ensure zero movement. The tape peels off super easy, like painters tape when I'm ready to tear down and load up the car.

Just did this for my 300 dollar Manfrotto tripod. I can't believe this simple hack worked perfectly. Exactly two pieces of tape.

Yes, the only thing I've found is that the tape eventually rips and turns all nasty and sticky. I've though of instead adding a thin layer of hot glue or a 2 part epoxy to see it lasts longer but I haven't tried it yet.

Well it would depend on the hinge type and what broke. If the piece that broke was the cylindrical bit in the center (sometimes it's inside the tab, sometimes to the sides like mine), sometimes, depending on the design, it's possible to drill the plastic and replace it with part of a screw or some metal cylinder of the same size. But if what broke is what holds onto this part, it's usually impossible.
