Quick Tip Rear Trailing Arm - Don't screw up your car when doing a disc brake swap
By Brian Gillespie
Rear disc conversions for your EF, EG or EK are getting harder and harder to come by. They came on a limited number of Civics and of course the DC2 Integra. Every time I go to the salvage yard I find I am too late to grab the discs conversion of the 1 or 2 cars there that had them.
Rear discs also came on the DA Integra, but not so fast! Using that rear trailing arm means changing the car's rear track width and that means the wheel is pushed out toward the fender. If I am trying to fit maximum rubber on rear of my car, I don't want that. Those trailing arms also use a different rear bushing than the EK, EG, EF and DC2 that has long been discontinued from Honda. Good luck finding those rear trailing arms with good bushings.
But there is a way to still use the discs brakes from the DA(DB) Integra and we'll show you how!

Just broke loose those T50 bolts on the rear spindle on a 1990 Acura Integra. I lmixed some ATF transmission fluid with some acetone (50/50) mix and let it soak in for 2 days, cleaned up the area and then applied heat to the bolts with a propane torch, dwell time approx 30 seconds and then used a 15" breaker bar. Worked quite well.

Thanks for these videos! As soon as I get a few more of the required tools, I'll be totally stripping my B-swapped EG hatch and building it back up from scratch. On the list is a small/mid-size turbo and some tall-ish gears for a grand touring build. Aiming for balance between long distance comfort and sporty performance when called on. Full A/C, disc conversion, comfy suspension, and extra thermal and sound insulation for a quiet ride. What are your thoughts on taller final drives such as the MFactory 3.471 final drive for my B18C5 with LS transmission? It should be a bit shorter overall than the stock VX gears but still afford sub-3000 RPM highway cruising.

@VTECHAcadamy this is good stuff i was wondering if this could be done but never looked into it but technically you can take the spindles out of newer accords with disc brakes and put them on whatever non disc brake trailing arms you have as well id think but the awesome thing again about the accords (Carter) is cb7 cd and cg chassis is there is a disc brake version of all of them that just swaps in directly ive done this on a cb7 90 lx chassis and did the whole subframe so i got disc brakes and a sway bar i could have just done trailing arms but i bought a whole Barely crashed in the front 93 ex chassis for 130$ so i used the whole rear. I eventually fixed that car and put it all together with 3 other cars so it was all different colors but clean(waxed and good paint) and looked like 3 cars none the less swapped a healthy engine in and it ran great all ways surprised people. I even mis shifted from 5 to 2 on a down shift and thought i messed it up because it was misfiring after that turned out it was just a valve lash adjustment nut backed off on the exhaust side even so it wasn't really even missing power just misfiring and i was in the middle of a 300 mile drive so i kept driving got home and found the nut in the head still. I didnt figure this out right away i took the engine out so i could use the transmission in another car but when i did figuer this out i was stoked. Sorry for blabbin on every week and wasting so much of your guys time haha but ya i like accords a little too much haha

Will the DA rear spindles bolt on to my stock EF (ED) rear trailing arms or do I need to get EK trailing arms?
@Freestoner707

I’m under the assumption that they should bolt right on. If so that’s a great mod!! No one ever talked about this in the Forums

@@Freestoner707 yes they do, i have seen a video by garage built hondas confirming this.

Hey Brian, I have a 91 EF that i did the rear conversion with DA trailing arms and yes, the rear is wider now. However, I bought new discs, calipers, and brake pads for the DA set up and im short on cash and im looking to re-use those. Could I go to the salvage yard and get DC or EK trailing arms and use the spindle and brake set up from my DA arms on the EK or DC?

You ca put the DA spindles on any 88-00 Civic trailing arms.

I just picked up a ed 4th gen civic sedan. to me this means that i should be able to go to the wreckers grab a disk rear end from a civic or integra and swap it all onto my drum trailing arm

So I got rear spindles from a DA, but I'm missing one of the calipers. Can I use a DC caliper on a DA spindle? (Going on my 89 Civic si) Also, can I use an EF wheel hub on a DA spindle?
@VTECAcademy
@VTECAcademy 11 месяцев назад
I'd grab tow DC calipers. The brake lines attach differently. Try to keep it consistent.

What's the difference with switching the trailing arm vs using scarebird conversion kit?
@VTECAcademy
@VTECAcademy 3 года назад
You can use the Scarebird conversion on the stock spindle to use DA or DC Integra calipers and discs. You can also use the Fastbrakes conversion if you want to have a larger rear disc.

If it's harder to find DC2 trailing arms than the spindles then where did the spindles come from?
@krazy_lobito4335
@krazy_lobito4335 2 года назад
You can buy Spindles.. from a DC2.. and use your eg or ek trailing arms.. and that will a replica of full dc2 trailing arms with the spindles.. if should be easier buying spindles from a 94-01 integra.. than looking for the whole thing and used.. better go with new full set all new.

I got trailing arms from a 4 door integra, Will the e-brake cables from a 4 door integra work on a 95 civic coupe. Or do I have to have the cables from a 2 door integra???

The Civic coupe and sedan should use the Integra sedan cables and the Civic hatchback should use the 2 door (hatchback) Integra.

So the spindle have to be from a 90 to 93 only? Or the spindle from a 94 to 2000 works too if I find one? Please let me know.

They all work, but if you have something otyher than the 90-93 Integra you can use the whole trailing arm as is.
