I appreciate how much you base your message on “you can do this, and don’t listen to people who say it’s too hard.” If I had learned upper structures years ago with this type of explanation instead of the stilted theory I read it would have been usable in my playing so much sooner.

It’s crazy that people gatekeep improvisation like that - there’s no secret to it!

lol I would walk on the lead tenor of my faculty band in college and would ask “could you show me something I could steal?” He showed me a tritone subs and how to arpeggiate it. He was like “don’t tell your teacher I taught you that” lol what 😂

The way I see it is to think of the relative minor of the V chord and play it mayor... It might sound tricky but it is not if you have the circle of 5ths and their relative minors on mind

That's a great way to think of it as well - whatever works best for you is the best way!

Shame that the notes /staff disappear when you start to play.

That’s why you need to grab the PDF for yourself! Then you can watch the lines on your own sheet while I play them.

I like the Quick Tips videos!! -- I am going to play around with this. In the example for the #1 Long 251, when you say add in the "A" from the D Major (add in D, F#, A) ...in this example the A was already there as part of the F7 (the third). You're not saying add in another (high) A (which I can't get on alto yet!) at the top of that series of notes, right? I hope that question makes sense.

Yes it’s the same A that’s already there - octave doesn’t matter at all
