often it just wants me to type to Siri for some reason I can't talk to it when that happens....oh wait, it was type to Siri was turned on under accessibility. I learned that from a few comments down.

Nice to know about Siri. I went to Siri & Spotlight, I see the Ask Siri, but the option for Listen for Hey Siri on headphones and Studio Display do not show up. It just shows Keyboard short cut, Language, Siri Vice and Siri history and under Spotlight it appears there's a check in every box. Also the Siri icon at the top of the screen near the date does not show up either. But my headphones in blue tooth show connected. Weird the iphone reacts to the commands I get zip on the iMac .

Hi Gary. I'm a happy subscriber who loves your very informative content. I only switched from PC to Mac a month ago, and I'm still getting used to the new environment, although I absolutely love it. Your videos really helped to prepare me for the transition. Do you know of any way (or apps) to customize the animation of windows and sounds? For example, assigning a sound to Mail when it opens, or to the minimizing of a window, or to the low battery notification. I would love to have the low battery say "I'm hungry. Feed me now" instead of "alert from low battery." Is there any way to do this? Thanks so much for any help.

Hi Gary. Can you recommend an audio mixer that controls things like Apple Music, RU-vid, etc. For example, I may be listening to Music then realize that I want to watch and hear one of your videos and be able to turn down the music quickly. Just wondering. Thanks for your videos and Happy New Year!

I don't use anything that does that. Maybe try Patrick's suggestion. For me, I would just go to the Music app, pause, and then back to RU-vid.

That's pretty dang cool that you can use it silently. Maybe I'll actually use Siri on my MacBook now. I've never wanted to speak to my computer in a public place.

Also My SIRI gets activate without even voice command. Just by random song or movie scene. I was one in a preview of a movie. Siri got activated and recorded movie dialogue and start speaking . was pretty embracing

One interesting behavior: If you have both speak to siri and type to siri activated, in my case it responds only to voice, if activated by voice, and only to the keyboard if activated by the keyboard or clicking the icon. It won't let me activate it via keyboard or mouse and speak.

I have an iPad Pro 2nd generation. I have to turn off Siri and tediously turn off all options for each app or else my iPad will freeze often. I didn’t know the latest iOS update installed a new app until my iPad started freezing again. I went to Siri settings and sure enough, there it was - Freeform. Once I completely disabled Siri for Freeform, the iPad stopped freezing up.

Are you talking about the "Learn From This App" setting? Freeform shouldn't use any resources at all, or interfere with Siri at all, if you aren't using it. I think perhaps you had something else going on. Or maybe the system was just catching up after the update and happened to finish at the same time you switched that off.

@@macmost Anytime a new app is installed, Siri is automatically enabled for that app with ALL options enabled even though I have the rest of Siri turned off. The iPad was locking up well after the update and stopped locking up as soon as I disabled Siri again. It’s always the same thing.

I have a HomePod Mini on my desk. It all gets a bit confusing when I say “Hey Siri …” and the HomePod and my iPhone both think I’m talking to them when I was looking for my iPhone to show me search results on its screen.

Yes. Monterey is an older version of macOS.

4:43 It is either "Type to Siri" or "Speak to Siri". It isn't possible to have both options at the same time? Only in the limited way by having "Type to Siri" deactivated and correct or add, if Siri didn't get it?

Only one should activate if they are both using the same Apple ID and don't have thing shut off (like Bluetooth) so they can communicate with each other.

The app itself would need to put some hooks in for Shortcuts, and then you can use Siri to activate those Shortcuts.

If both are using the same Apple ID and you haven't disabled anything (like Bluetooth) then only one should answer. Usually the one you are using.

Nice tips. Personally, I am disappointed in the crawling pace of maturation of Siri. IMO, Apple seems to have lost interest in Siri. For example, conversational mode. Compared to Google Assistant's conversational mode, Siri functionality is embarrassing. For someone like me, who owns many Apple products, Siri is, simply put, frustrating.

I think a lot of it has to do with Apple's tougher stance on privacy. It is hard to figure out what you want and have "conversations" with that in mind. Google and Amazon don't care about that.

The same with me. I‘m male and using male Siri, American Voice 1. I guess this voice was called „Alex“ in earlier implementations of Siri.

I’m male and I prefer the male British voice. He sounds rather intelligent. Curiously when I run some of the shortcuts Gary taught us Siri reverts to the default female voice. I’ve no idea why.
