Digoxin is commonly prescribed for heart failure, A-Fib/ Flutter
💊 PHARM
- Positive Inotrope (Increases Squeeze ❤️)
- Negative Chronotrope (Slowed Ventricular Rate ❤️)
DIGOXIN TOXICITY
👉🏽 Most common trigger of Dig Toxicity is hypokalemia
(Think of the diuretics patients may take and the effect on potassium!)
FINDINGS
👉🏽 Yellow-Green Halo/ Blurred Vision
👉🏽 Dizziness
👉🏽 Abdominal Discomfort
👉🏽 Nausea/ Vomiting 🤢
❤️ ECG FINDINGS ❤️
- Slowed Ventricular Response
- 2nd or 3rd Degree AV Block
- PVCs
- Ventricular Tachycardia
🧠Test Tip: The key to knowing it is Digoxin Toxicity on exams is the phrasing "Yellow-Green Halo". Also know that hypokalemia can potentiate Digoxin Toxicity
