As usual, Steve provides good straight forward information regarding “flooding” and then goes to the extreme to bang home the idea of what flooding really is AND how to easily resolve the issue with “no tools.” I know i have experienced flooding syndrome with my Husqvarna chainsaw.

I actually gasped when you poured that much gas into the cylinder fearing that it would be hydraulically locked and you would have no chance of even getting it to crank much less starting it. Although my back would have gone out pulling it that many times you did prove your point. btw I am an engineer and the good old boys so often know their sheet better than us. Thank you for proving me wrong and bravo to you.

Steve, your method worked way better than what the mechanic at my small engine shop showed me (pull the spark plug and blow the cylinder out with a compressor). Once I pulled the air cleaner off I was able to see and understand the choke and throttle movements. I wont forget this lesson. Keep making these videos.

I was about to put my chainsaw out on a stump in front of my house with a sign saying "FREE (DOESN'T WORK)." I literally had the sign all ready! I decided to look through a few of your videos first, and this is the one that did the trick. A bunch of pulls with the choke off and the throttle open and it started up. I didn't _think_ it was flooded -- the spark plug didn't seem wet -- but it was. 👍👍👍to you, Steve.

Today, I didn't need to pour gas into my FS-45's cylinder to flood it. I just tried to start it. After I gave up, I removed the air filter from the throttle housing, and gas poured out! Per your instructions, Steve, I must have over choked. I probably squished the primer bulb too many times, too (six squishes). Also, seeing you pull the starter 293 times (more or less) was encouraging and instructive. I would have thought it was hopeless. Lesson: keep on! Thanks!

You are a life saver man! I am so thankful. I bought a Shindaiwa T262 on 2018 after Hurricane María so I can start a new job in landscaping (because power was down for a long period of time and I couldn't continue working in my design/programming/music prodicution freelance job) and it have been working flawlessly until yesterday. I trimmed, put it down, blew with the blower, and when I started it again to continue trimming, it wouldn't start. I cleaned the spark, the filter, and was about to either take the trimmer to a shop to clean or replace the carburetor, or to buy a carburetor kit on Ebay. This increased my already present generalized anxiety thinking about what I was gonna do now, with no money, and no nearby shops. So after searching for how to clean the carb yesterday, today this video popped up in my RU-vid home. So I decided to watch it. I was hopeless but decided to try it anyway. After pulling the cord maaaany times, it made the first attempt to start and I was like "No way!!!" so I kept pulling. And the darn trimmer started!!!! Now I'm pulling my hairs about what went wrong. I probably started the trimmer with the choke on and flooded it. I'm so happy now and ashamed about how easy the fix was. Now I need to play with the accelerator screw, which I turned around yesterday to test few theories, and when I release the accelerator now the trimmer shuts down immediately. We need more heroes like you, kind people willing to keep the information flowing and sharing (as I do with my design/programming/technology/music skills) to give everyone a hand in times of need. I wish you success, health, joy, and blessings. From Puerto Rico.

Hello STEVE, it's me IAN from Brampton, Ontario, CANADA. Steve, I personally thank you kindly for this particular video about FLOODED TWO STROKE ENGINE. Steve, you explain everything from the basics and make me feel comfortable and brings my confidence to a great level. Right now, I desperately need your INPUT HELP on starting my bogged down Two Stroke Mini GARDEN TILLER by ECHO model # TC210. Steve, I got it to start by learning from your EXAMPLE in YOUR OTHER VIDEO but I CANNOT fine tune the NEWLY ORDERED and INSTALLED CARBURETOR HIGH & LOW SCREW PIN ADJUSTERS or the THROTTLE SCREW ADJUSTER, which I also tried to experiment with in order to keep the engine running when I had started it after pulling the cord a dozen times playing with the CHOKE. I hope to hear from you soon STEVE !! Thank you kindly again for your informative educational videos !!!

Great job my friend! thanks for taking the time to post excellent info... I gotta tell ya there's just something about small engine repair.... I'd rather take my direct injection gas engine opart in my VW than mess with small engines.. People have no idea how precise the repairs on small engines actually are. I can get any gas or diesel engine running with way out of wack air/fuel ratios but a small engine?? Good luck folks... Even as a Red Seal Factory Trained Grand Master Technician, I drop my small engine repairs off to our local guru. Im glad he's still around as small engine repair professionals are becoming few and far between in my locale. Yes I can make a Porsche sing, a VW hum and a Cadillac smoke tires but when it comes to my small engine repairs I just leave that to the man who knows them best.

Went to school for small engine repair and things can be a little tedious but not much harder in my opinion than larger engines, just smaller and less parts. Carbureted usually instead of fuel injected but thats the biggest difference

Thank you sir. I set my trimmer down on my lawn (like I've done dozens of times), but this time it decided to roll all the way to the sidewalk. (There is a slight grade). After that it smelled like gas big time and wouldn't restart. I knew it was flooded, but beyond waiting it out, I didn't know how to "unflood" it. I ran into the house and found your video. It worked like a charm. I finished my trimming job along with the rest of the yardwork. I was actually keeping the choke on and wondering why the damn thing wouldn't start. Thanks for making my day easier and more productive!

I too had to smile when you helped us Brits by mentioning petrol. You have an amusing and sure fire, get the message across approach to helping people. I have an old MS 260 with which I have to be careful never to let it run out of petrol. If it does it seems to be always flooded after refilling! If in a hurry I unscrew the plug to dry it then try again, if not I go indoors, make a cup of tea, eat a couple of chocolate biscuits then try again. You say "without tools" but experience has shown me to always have a plug spanner handy, besides, I am nowhere near as energetic as you, young man.

Hey Steve, I over primed my Echo string trimmer and found your video. You bailed me out! I followed your steps, including removing the air filter to get more air flow. It worked great. Two pulls, but mine was not hydrolocked. I especially appreciate your explanation as to why you adjust the choke and keep the throttle open. It helped me to visualize what was going on in the carb. Best of all I didn't have to see my husband roll his eyes at me. lol Oh, I subscribed!!!

Ok I’m going to sound stupid but I just learned what happens when you pull the choke lever out lol I always thought it limited or restricted how much fuel when to the engine lol. So, all these years whenever I flooded my chainsaw I would pull the choke lever out lol I’m 50 and have been using a saw since I was 15 so 35 years and you just taught me something! You are da Man! Thank you! Our trimmer flooded yesterday. I got up this morning prepared to visit the store for tools to remove the spark plug, then drain per the manufacturer's info. Then I watched your video. It probably took some 30-50 cranks (we didn't count) between two people, handing it off when one got tired, but it started. Ran it full throttle for a few minutes after. Turned it off, and waited. Starts again like normal now.

Thanks man, I just added oil to my Craftsman weed eater and started it with the electric starter you sick in the back and the next thing I know I have oil and fuel seeping out of the air filter. Then I tried to start it again and the engine locked on me. I had no idea this was a common thing. I tried your method and it worked perfectly. I though for sure my weed eater was toast. Thanks again.
