In-Booth Demo on the Quicktech i-42 Ultimate 10-Axis Twin Spindle Mill/Turn Center at PMTS 2019, featuring Greg Knight, Vice President of Sales - Production Turning Products, and Phillip Judt, Applications Engineer - Production Turning Products. This demo part is being made from Ø1.0 360 brass and is based on an automotive transmission component. The actual component and the program’s speeds and feeds were all 316 stainless steel.
You’ll see here that we’re turning and grooving on the main spindle and then drilling a hole on the end. Live tools are also being used to cross drill at 90 degrees using the machine’s B axis with a compound angle drill.
All these machining functions are going on simultaneously while the sub-spindle is facing the part length and breaking the edge to counter bore, drill, and tap. Just like a Swiss-style sliding headstock lathe, we are completely overlapping the main and sub-spindle, keeping 2 tools in the cut for almost the entire process.
