Great video as always, finally had to take the plunge to jump over to Altium as it seems to be the only software capable of doing polar coordinates well.

Any chance you could do a tutorial on panelizing PCB's? Especially when you have 2 or 3 different PCB's in a project that you want to put together on a single panel. including rails for the production line, v-scoring, mouse bites etc. I've not has much luck finding any good video tutorials and your lessons are so clear and detailed I'm sure you would totally nail it. It would be really helpful to a lot of people ... well, me anyway.

I love Phil and I have watched almost every video from him. I would love to use Altium but there is just no way with the price. For a small start up without external funding it's just a hard no. Such a shame. Also, I'm a big fan of Zach and his whiteboard videos on this channel.

Thanks and Phil is definitely a cool guy! Have you ever thought of using Circuit Maker? If you ever upgrade to AD your projects will directly transfer over into the standard Altium file format, no headaches with using a translator.
@peteckone
@peteckone Год назад
@@Zachariah-Peterson Thank you for your answer. Sure, I've looked into CM, but the pros of the open source alternatives do outweigh the cons of CM for us. What I would love to see is more gradular pricing unlocking more and more features, which I'm sure is not going to happen, but hey, one can dream, right? But I'm sure that someday we will get the required money to start using Altium. So until then, I'll just arm myself with patience.

Thank you for your great tutorial. I was able to follow up on most of them but I had some issues with the vias. My vias look different. I had some cross holes at the bottom layer instead of the solid fill. I replayed it multiple times but couldn't figure out what I did wrong. My Altium version is 23.2.1 (build34). Do you have any suggestions to fix my issues?
@Zachariah-Peterson
@Zachariah-Peterson Год назад
First, make sure you set the via size under the Routing -> Via Style rule. To eliminate the thermal connection, you also have to set the Plane Connect and Polygon Connect rules to Direct, that will ensure that the polygon/plane are always directly connecting to the vias/through-holes. You can also change thermal connections for specific vias/pads by selecting the object and using the properties panel, in that panel there will be an option for Thermal Relief.
@cheolhongan3470
@cheolhongan3470 Год назад
@@Zachariah-Peterson Indeed, It seems like the Polygon connection rule makes difference ( Reflief connection (Default) to Direct ). If Altium Academy instructors share their configurations with some link to download (I am not sure Altium design has the features to export and import configurations although), it would be really helpful for beginner to duplicate their results.
@Zachariah-Peterson
@Zachariah-Peterson Год назад
 @cheolhongan3470 If you go to some of the tutorial videos there are links to download the design files. Take a look at the USB to UART bridge tutorial for this.
