I hear ya man. I got into KISS into the late 70s then fell off between 80-83 just listening to the radio. Then I got "Metal Health" at 13 as well and my metal mania took off for real. I followed up Quiet Riot with Motley Crue's "Shout at the Devil" later that year and I have been banging my head ever since. I don't hafta tell you how "Metal Health" got into your inner being and suddenly Culture Club and Duran Duran and the ass clowns who listened to them were now the "enemy". Oh man I could go on and on, but I kinda figure the story is probably pretty much the same for you.

Best comment ever. So true
@Evi1penguin5
@Evi1penguin5 2 года назад
@@spacesex710 I think you might have missed the meaning of the comment. He's not saying that nobody plays their instruments and nobody writes their own music. The fact is and you can look this up the recording industry has gotten into the business of finding an image instead of finding great musicians. A band like quiet riot for example did everything on their own and came up on pure talent. It was also far more common to record an album as a band instead of multitracking, I can't say that that's the case for the '80s but that certainly has changed over the years. There are plenty of phenomenal musicians who still write their own music and still play instruments but it is a fact that the landscape has changed and musicianship has really taken a hit. Someday that will turn around and we will get musicianship back but not until the recording industry and record labels become unnecessary. With SoundCloud and RU-vid and people making a name for themselves on their own we're inching closer. But it's a good comment, not to be taken entirely literal.

Any one here to revisit since hearing the news of Frankie's passing? I was there from the early morning to the late night. Rock history right here people. You can literally feel the energy and sense of urgency in this gig!

Incredible performance. They brought it and left it all over the stage. Carlos’s Run For Cover solo is mind-melting. Killer showmanship! Rudy Sarzo is a monster player. Frankie plays with power, authority and flair. He was a total fan and knew the history of rock music. But Kevin DoBlow is absolutely astounding, his voice never gets old. One of the great metal voices. Even if he is likely gacked of his mind here. Plenty of that going on backstage. Check out Ozzy when he first runs out on stage in the chicken costume! R.I.P. Frankie!! Bravo!

That Washburn guitar that Carlos was using here is really nice. At this point of his career he could have used anything and he used this instrument from a company that makes really nice stuff but is often overlooked.

He had his flying V which is a pretty model, less than I think 20 were built with those specs. He probably didn't want to play it, or maybe because it was national tv and he was endorsed by Washburn he was told to play it.

Loved the shit out of that guitar when I first saw it in the magazines, which were photos from this. Now I've found the same exact model (and in the condition I want it in) to buy.

He had a lot of guitars he used in those days, he had a couple different Washburns (the A-20 and the V shaped guitar), a couple Gibson Flying V's, an SG Junior, and at least a couple Jacksons. I remember he said in Guitar Player, on Metal Health, most of the record was done with a Jackson Telecaster copy, which I think he also plays for a couple songs on this show.

Interesting fact: If no for John Mellencamp, QR wouldn't have played at US Festival and we'd likely never have heard of them. Mellencamp got into a dispute with organizers and dropped out, so Joe Walsh was moved to that day to cover his empty slot and QR was brought in to fill in Walsh's old time slot.

First band ever to hit #1 with a debut album...I met these guys in Hsv, AL when I was 17...totally starstruck my buddy and I just stood there as if we were watching a movie...every now and then Kevin would look over and say, "you guys having fun"? and we just smiled and held up our drink...Kevin was cuh-RAZZY...every one else was pretty normal...Carlos was a pretty quiet guy.

@@CaptainVelveeta Truth, it's something how music has gotten heavier over the years, and how many of those old 'metal' bands would be basic rock/pop today. But good stuff. I like QR's second album a lot too.

@@CaptainVelveeta yea but i can't call the music of today metal they have lost all the greatness in the solos if they even have solos and they don't have those cool distorted voices that they had back in the day they instead just sounds like a beast from fantasy movies with their weird heavy growling
