Lays brings out special flavours of chips periodically. They last a while and then are gone. However there are different flavours in different provinces. But I admit, All-Dressed or Ketchup are my go to.

Ketchup chips were too sweet. The sweetness of ketchup is one of the reasons I don't generally eat it (horror stories from waiting tables at Waffle House is a big part). But, I totally understand the pairing of potatoes and ketchup -- it's a long-standing tradition.

I love potato chips. Pennsylvania, where I live, produces more potato chips than any other state, and there are a lot of regional brands. In my grocery store last week I saw potato pierogi, special hot stromboli, and cheese ravioli and marinara flavored chips. All three were finalists in a Philly flavors contest. They are limited edition chips available this summer. I don’t think I’ll be trying any of them. I love barbecue chips if they are the local brand I grew up on. I couldn’t follow your calorie calculations for chips, but a gram is a gram of potato chips no matter what size the bag is. I would guess the difference is in the way each government allows the calorie content to be calculated or the amount of oil retained in the chips. Oil provides the bulk of the calories. If you can ever tour a small potato chip factory, it’s worth the visit. If you decide you want some kind of closure on the bag you made, you could consider a fabric loop on one side the goes over a button sewn on the opposite side.

The Polish in me wants to try pierogi flavored chips! I don't normally eat chips because they're too greasy, usually. I guess that's why I prefer popcorn. For my calculations, I divided the calories per serving by the number of grams per serving (making a gram a gram). The US chips had a higher number. That's where I'm coming up with Potatogate, where I'm wondering why the calorie difference, when things should be "basically" the same. My guess is it's either type of oil or amount of oil absorbed dur to cooking process. As for serving info, I wonder if there's much regulation. The big number you see is number of calories. So people think "oh, this is only 150 calories" -- but, they try to hide the "3 servings per container" part. That's probably why there's two sets of nutrition info on some things - per serving and per container. Because, I don't know anyone who splits a 20-oz soda into 2.5 servings....

Ya know... I should have remembered that french fries are "frites" and I would have figured it out. It's been way too long since I practiced French!

On one hand, that's a lot to pay for chips. On the other hand, that's probably what my sister paid to buy the chips, smuggle them back, and ship them to me....
