Hey Steve, what settings do you have on the clean channel in this video? Bite switch in? Punch control? Shared High and Low EQ? Is the clean channel set up with enough headroom to play funk comping rhythm without breaking up, and the pedal is pushing it into near breakup with some drive and mostly level boost into the front of the TM60? I dragged mine out after not touching it for almost 10 years after I stopped gigging, and I am trying to build out an analog pedalboard with it. I used to gig with it as a small power amp for my Roland GP-100 straight into the FX return mostly, when I didn't want to lug around my Mesa Fifty Fifty stereo amp and two EVM-12L loaded Pacific Woodworks EV TL-608 style thiele ported cabs. I only used to play through the tone stack on the amp at home when I was noodling after I stopped gigging at first. then put it away once my 8 year old was born.. Relegated to finally getting a blackstar FLY before I finally got all my guitars back out during the pandemic and rediscovered music again :) Great playing, just like your other vid I just saw. Hope you are well.

Bite switch out actually I believe.. I find it gets to thin with it in.. It's more fender small amp with the switch in but only noticeable when the amp is cranked up.. I think it has a NEO speaker in it as well not sure if I had it in yet but I think I did. Eminence Red coat Tonker lite just for weight reduction not sound.. I have a video of this amp with different speakers somewhere on the channel... THX

The Tec 21 these days is about $609 new. This quilter cost $1050. It's the HD model. I like the tec. The Quilter was also very very good. it's tough choice indeed. Throw in the new Blues Cube and its mind boggling. I also have the ZT club. loud little guy but not as warm needs an EQ. but super small and light.. I kept the Tec 21 and got a power engine. I'm in heaven when I can bring both. It was the cleanest platform out of all of them. hope this helps

great playing, good tones. How is the search going and have you tried the peavey bandit to compare also? Have you settled on a best choice for playing in a band mix situation, or do you think they are all great in different ways? thanks in advance, keep rockin'!

nelson hamlin nelson hamlin I play the trademark 60 for a few years. so I'm sticking with that. I find it needs an eq to brighten it up a little. I use overdrive pedals for edge. not the distortion channel. I have a Peavey Bandit I've had that for well over a decade. that's a great amp to. I just don't grab that much anymore I like the trademark a little better. like I said to cut through with a band you have to EQ some brights in a little bit so I either use an overdrive pedal turn up the highs all little.. I've been putting an EQ through the send and return but in front works to. I find the trademark is most tubey out of all of them that I've tried. and you can't beat the wieght.. I use a J rocket 45 for edge overdrive or jhs morning glory..check out The Fast Lane eagles tribute for actual live sounds. See it in action..we have vids and some on my channel. hope that helps. Hi, yes I agree with your reply to my comments on your previous demo of the tech 21 vs Roland blues cube and fender about this being good but not good enough to be better than the tech 21. There are some who say they had problems with the speaker on the tech 21, but mine has been perfect over the last 20 years or so !! Good luck in what you do. Chris uk

it was the early version of the Tech 21 TM60. They changed the speaker later on.....
@thearoom
@thearoom 8 лет назад
I have the new speaker . I've also had a Tonkerlite in there another great choice as if trademark isn't light enough.. They changed the baffle to so its easier to change speakers.. they also get right on the phone if you ever have any questions no prob

Hi dont have that kinda money, but i got a 1995sh hughes & kettner Vortex ( home owned, hardly used, 80W...) for 50€ and two 100W speakers from a Tech 21 60 Trademark amp from the same era for 30€, so: im gonna put one of the well-broken- in speakers into the Kettner and have a listen...( i have lots of pedals...). That would make the total cost of a decent? sounding amp 65€! Any thoughts on my budget plan???
@thearoom
@thearoom 6 лет назад
Kimmo Lingonheimo is that a combo amp? I love the h & k. I played one in a store was absolutely wonderfully tone. But I’m a combo amp guy. Lightweight and portable is what I’m going for. I have to travel way to much for a head speaker combo..I’m also a NEO speaker guy so I would go with a lil Texas or cream back NEO..

Great playing and yes very tough. I almost want to give it to Tech21 on the basis that it sounds just about as good but the amps are readily available used for a lot cheaper than these new Quilters. Thanks for sharing!
@thearoom
@thearoom 7 лет назад
Mark ...Sure is allot cheaper and feels great.. The Tec can be boomy when you stand next to it so aim it up when possible.

There's a bit of volume bias going on in that the Quilter is louder and comes through on the video better. But analyzing just the tone, I think the Tech21 sounds more authentic in the tube emulation and more organic overall.
@thearoom
@thearoom 8 лет назад
The problem I see with the Quilter is lack of eq on the clean channel. keeping the dirt channel gain low and master high didn't sound better than the clean for my pedals.. however, the reverb is the best I've heard from any amp..

As I get older, even 1x12 tube amps are becoming a pain to lug around. I've been thinking about solid state amps for awhile now. This was very useful. Great playing too, by the way.

leftchicago I understand... get the tec 21.. (if you use pedals)

Nice comparison and great playing. I gigged an older TM60 for about 5 years and was never happy with how dirt pedals sounded through it. Never thought about changing the speaker. The dirt channel is unuseable, which is a shame. I've only ever played a Quilter Micropro with an 8" speaker. cleans sounded great, the dirt channel was really harsh to my ears unless the limiter was being used, then it had a pretty good mild breakup sound. I've been on the same quest.

santos0x yeah it's ruff. I like the tm60 alot. you gotta find the right pedal and aim the amp up a little. it's dark from up close up top...

Damn...seriously to me... with a not so cold coffee on Sunday 745m, wanting to sleep longer, they sound identical. Besides the weight, any other reason you prefer ss amps? +Thearoom? cheers
@thearoom
@thearoom 7 лет назад
Ces McMyth ha.. yeah just the weight and low maintenance.. The tone is very consistent and clean to at any volume.

Oo the painful search... i feel you. Ive played a mustang II amp for the past 5 years. The bigger version of the mustang didnt stand a chance against the others in these videos. Ive been thinking about the quilter micropro mach 2, but after seeing this i might try the tech 21 instead

I allays go back to the TEC 21. Make sure you get the newer one with the Celetion speaker. I also just picked up the power engine that goes with it , this is the ultimate setup if you have the room .. never sounded better .. appreciate the input

Been using two Trademark 60's for ten years. Love them! Did put Vintage 30's in the them though.

Was wondering about that speaker in here myself it needs a mid boost
@jonathanbrazee3846

I think price wise the quilter is about right. the trademark was over $600 20 yrs ago, when it was new technology. so if you compare $600 in the 1990's , to $850 today. The quilter is a good deal.

GREAT GUITAR CHOICE. I love Tom Anderson guitars, I own 3. The TECH 21 seems to sound better. I gather you like OD pedals with these amps. You don't care for the GAIN on the Tech 21 ?
@thearoom
@thearoom 8 лет назад
No I don't care for the gain on any of em really. I use Morning glory or JROCKET 45 caliber, for these sounds.. .....transparent overdrives for edge and stack the pedal of the month in front for Rippin' I have a Jrocket the dude and JHS Angry Charlie I keep going back and forth with..

Tech 21 seems to have a tad more creamyness / mids to it.
