It was good enough for Les Paul to use live.

He used it for clean sounds, as well as Fender Twins, Music Man and Jazz Chorus amps.

In my opinion, these amps deserved more success and should still be made. They sound better than any of the first few generations of digital modelling amps, and even better than some of the current ones. They are at least on par with Peavey Transtubes. I think their failure was strictly the result of people following their tube bias instead of their ears.

Indeed, I 100% agree .... I asked Tech21 why they discontinued the Power Engine deluxe and it's because of the huge uncrease in the components price. Instead of producing their amps and Power Engines in Asia or China, they prefered to discontinue their line ... which is not the case of Quilter... I was about to purchase their new Mach 3 when I saw written Made In China on the back ... NO, THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! My advice is to get your hands on Tech 21 Trademarks or Quilter Mach 2 or Aviator Gold .... they may be the only amps still working in the future : price of valves still increasing or availability/price/reliability of chinese/asian components becoming an issue

Haha this is why I love this community, so subjective! I think this thing sounds STELLAR! Mind you I only listened through my phone speaker.

As I listen back, I think it sounds remarkably good when I'm not hearing the Sansamp out. I end up thinking I turned the gain up too high on the clean sound in particular, but that's easy to do at lower volumes.

I've used this as a gig amp for years, and I hope that it sounds as good to the audience as yours does through my phone. I've always liked the sounds mine gives me, and I have always appreciated the light weight and direct out. Good review--thanks.

Actually, I love this amp. My son needed a better amp than the one I gave him when he started playing guitar. That was his old 1 x 12 Crate. They made some nice sounding tube amps. But, it was one of their 100% solid state amps. And, it was so sqeaky-clean in clean mode (no distortion, that is) that it was hard to listen to it. So, I shopped around. And, got him the model you show here, about 20+ years ago. He loves it. And, wouldn't easily part with it. In fact, several people who've played it at his gigs through the years, asked if all that sound was coming from this little amp. It was. He could crank it up and still get heard directly from the stage, if he wanted to. But, I'm sure he was using a microphone in front of it, like almost everyone does these days. And, as you mentioned. I also like the sound. If you were comparing this to your Legend amp with 4 speakers, you weren't at all comparing apples to apples. Even a good amp wont sound as big as it does with a 4 x cabinet. I wondered what your takaway would be now, after saying it sucked per your memory, many years ago. You seem to have the same opinion I've always had, now. I've edited my entry here, to add a few things. Someone in this thread wrote that Les Paul used a Trademark 60 for his own appearances. I just HAD to check THAT out. Yep, it's true. I Googled it. And, I found it right away. When it comes to another amp that will capture your attention, I know of one more. Many years ago, when I didn't have an amp to play on one occasion, I rented a Music Man 1 x 12 tube amp they stopped making a long, long time ago. That was Leo Fender's concoction, after he left Fender. Oh, man, what an amp! Tube driven, it had incredible, hall-filling sound, whether you played it clean, added the big spring reverb sound that could make you cry (think: almost as good as the Greg Lake solo in ELP's From The Beginning), or with some overdrive added to modernize the sound before most other amp makers knew how to do it right. Those are long gone. If you find an old used one, it's usually beaten to death. Others who had one also loved them so much, they took them along on the road, for their favorite auditoriums and other venues. If you find one, rebuild it, or have your gear head friend copy the circuitry for you, from the ground up. You won't be sorry.

Is it possible the used amp you purchased as a teenager wasn’t working well…? So many things can negatively impact tone on an amp, including a blown speaker & faulty electrical issues. This demo was fantastic and makes me remember why I miss my trademark amp so much.

I bought one when they first came out and I've had it ever since. I have to confess that after a while it spent many years buried in garages gathering dust. Some months ago it found its way home again where I realized what a great little amp it really is. it's now always plugged in ready for me and my muse. Thanks for sharing your reacquaintance with the T60. Sure you can buy better gear for more money but bang for buck, this thing sings.

I have one of these and i freaking love it. Only solid state amp i ever had that sounds this good. I bought mine for 200 from a guy i met at McDonald's and brought it home and was totally amazed. The only thing is you get break up pretty easy but all you gotta do is roll the volume back a little and your there

You can make most anything sound good with your playing. With that said, your usual rig blows this away. Thanks for sharing the Marching Band story. Both my boys were in Marching Band (battery percussion and clarinet). My oldest also played at Miami University of Oxford in their battery. He plays drums with me on guitar in our church Praise Band now. Keep those videos coming. God bless and rock on 🎸👍😎

Based on my experience with the TM60 and Power Engine 60 and from looking through various forums, I would make the following suggestions: 1) Change the speaker to something with higher sensitivity. The Celestion 70/80 headroom doesn't do it much favors - kind of shrill and little headroom. Remember, this is something of a modelling amp (the analog kind), so ideally you'd want a fairly neutral speaker if you want to cover all the amp models in both channels - maybe an FRFR-style speaker or an EVM12 (although I'm not sure the 1x12 cab would be able to house that monster). Eminence was choice for a lot of people on the forums - a Wizard or Tonker. A Beyma 12GA50 is what I have in the Power Engine and a Tonker in the TM60. 2) If you're using both channels, put an EQ pedal in the FX loop. Because both channels share the master EQ, dialing in both channels to your liking may prove impossible. A parametric EQ could solve this. You could engage/disengage the FX loop simultaneously with Channel 2 on the amp's footswitch. The common complaint about the distortion channel on the TM60 is that it doesn't cut through - too mid-rangey and muddy. I have a several EQ pedals - Empress ParaEQ, MXR KFK EQ, and EHX Tube EQ. They all do different things. I suppose if you wanted to 'warm' up the amp, an EXH Tube EQ (if you can find it on the used market) would give you some of the 'sag' of tube amps. However, remember that you need an line level output feeding into the return of the FX loop on the TM60. Otherwise, you'll have signal mismatch and your signal will get quieter. The FX loop was really designed with rack effects in mind rather pedals with instrument level output. I'd imagine something like a Source Audio EQ pedal would work since you can change the output signal to line level and have all sorts of presets. 3) Try with other cabs. Maybe a 2x12 or even 4x12 will sound more massive than the 1x12 combo. Slaving the Power Engine to the TM60 makes the whole thing sound massive. 4) As some have mentioned, the amp's controls are very sensitive. In order to really dial in the amp I would recommend looping your guitar (first in the signal chain) and then mess around with the amp's controls as you're listening to the loop in real-time.

If you can find the older model with the Tech 21 flat response speaker those sound better than the celestion equipped ones IMO. I've had both and gigged them extensively.

Run your compressor in front. I always run a Dyna Comp in the snake eyes position in front of my TM60. It seems to add a bit more touch sensitivity.

Hi Lucas, thanks for nice run thru! I own the same TM60 since 25? years. Always was a bit annoyed by the harsh and hard crunch sound. Now I swapped the speaker to a Celestion Creamback Neo 60W and wow! I'm flashed how sweet it sounds now. You should definitely try..

Been using one of these at home for about 20 years, it definitely needs patience to dial in - the controls are *extremely* sensitive. Also comes stock with a Celestion Seventy80 speaker which gets plenty of hate (personally I find it usable enough). Diming the gain on Ch2 will take you to fart city, but sticking it around 12:00 and boosting the front end can get really nice results IMO, as well as an EQ in the loop for some overall tone shaping.

I disagree with the tinny and thin comment. My problem with it is it sounds too much like blanket over a speaker. Like my old Line 6 Pod. Just couldn’t get any clarity or character out of it. And if anything it’s too woofy sounding and is mostly bass and mids. Your playing makes it sound good though!

For $150-200 its not bad. Like you said, if you use it for gigging it’ll get the job done. I wonder if your pickups back in the day had anywhere the clarity of your signature pup, and those Planet Tone Venus Isle in the middle and neck. I’ve heard your gigging guitar sound amazing, so maybe your bridging the gap a bit from your memory of the amp. I think I’ve heard far worse, but your fingers and guitar probably help it out a bit. Thanks for the vid, always enjoy your content!

That's a great point! At the time I would have been playing my Gibson SG with Dimarzio Evolution pickups. I would say they were considerably hotter and not as "clear" for my tastes. These came with 2 different speakers. Which is in your amp? Also, these are supposed to sound pretty good with a sound processor in front. I don't think they were sold for their own sound that I can recall. Sounds good to me. I think people get a little too anal about these things. One question to ask: Does it sound good? And yes, I think it sounds pretty good on its own. Probably better with something in front of it.

You might be thinking of the Tech 21 Power Engine. Those were a different product designed as a clean amplification platform to extend the Trademark amps, or other products (like the Line 6 Pod). The Trademark amps were definitely designed with character and meant to be used as super flexible combo amps.

Just ask Paul Landers from Rammstein if he complains about his old Tech 21 stuff .... at least, yours is still in working condition !!! I am not sure Asian made Fender Tonemaster or Roland Blues Cube are still working after 5 years, due to crappy asian planned obsolescence component.
