"Ever arrive at a session only to find your amp is dead, or maybe it’s a “silent stage” with no amps allowed? Acoustic players can plug straight in, but electric guitars need a purpose-built direct interface. The Quilter Phantom Block provides the correct input impedance, gain, tone and overdrive that the electric guitar needs to sound its best. This simple low-cost device gives you the key creative controls you need at your fingertips, and should be in every gig bag as a backup solution.
The Phantom Block runs on 48V phantom power via the XLR output, external 9V pedal power, or you can install a 9V battery that will run about 100 hours. The high impedance input gets optimum tone from standard passive pickups, the Gain goes from clean to overdrive, a wide range Tone covers the most popular sounds, and the Master adjusts overall output level. Switchable Cab Sim warms up the sound of the electric guitar, while FR suits other devices such as acoustic guitar and keyboards."

Both guitarists in the band have used these at a few gigs and festivals this summer (with pedals). Helps with quick set up requirements. Probably not as good as a quality amp but sound engineers like them, band levels are great and we have had really good feedback from the audiences.

This would be handy as a backup for if/when your amp craps. You could just jack into the PA and keep going. Save on packing a backup amp. RJ, you are a badass. Thanks for the inspiration!

How does it do with a full pedalboard. Let's be honest clean tones are easy to achieve in comparison to natural breakup and rich saturation without the fizz.

@@Tomsdrawings I’m not a guitar player, drummer and some suitable bass....I snagged one as a tracking option for guitar players.....tried it with 4 different players...ALL 4 loved it and said they wanted one too!! They all said that it responds like an amp....they all liked how it broke up for they various playing styles.

I think it needed to be dialed around.My OD 202 has a cab simulator here I think it is turned on as well. It's probably loading this a bit much here.

I ordered one based on this demo. Was very disappointed. It sounds muddy (with a Tele bridge and the tone all the way up), pretty low output and and the gain knob does nothing except at lowest and highest setting. I‘d recommend the Palmer pocket amp Mk 2. better cab sim and more tone control options and cheaper :)

Just ordered a Quilter to replace a Palmer Pocket Amp Mk2! May have had a faulty unit, but the Palmer was very noisy and pretty much unusable either in studio or live.

@@koifish9645 Can't remember mine was particularly noisy. But if you're looking for a proper amp/cab sim solution, I cannot recommend the Strymon Iridium enough. It's pricey but to me better than anything I have tried so far. The difference is hard to hear in RU-vid demos, but immediately obvious when you play them and "feel" it under the fingers.

@@silvioschmidt5346 Have heard good reviews of the Strymon Iridium, so although it has more options and probably a better "feel", it is expensive here in the UK (we need two units) plus the in-built XLR DI out on the Quilter PB would be useful, especially for outdoor festivals with long runs to the sound desk and not much changeover time.
