I'm am going to steal that riff and make it mine. ST you are a wicked player dude. Though I'm copping your lead riff, your rhythm playing is even better.
Got mine about 30 days ago. I could not be happier. It replaced my Fender 64 Reverb Custom Deluxe Hans Wired. Yes, this amp is that good and no, unfortunately I don’t get any money from Quilter. Just amazing tones at all volumes. Best amp I’ve had in 40 years.
Shawn, thanks so much for doing such a great Tone Block 202 demo! Have had one for a few months now. As you said...it does like pedals. I truly hope someone from Sweetwater Music has checked out your videos! I'm sure there are plenty of players that would LOVE to see you live doing a "clinic" during their "Sweetwater Days" in June....including me!!!
Great demo. Opened my eyes to these amps - heard a lot about them but haven’t seen any reviews as in depth as yours. That Suhr sounds beautiful and of course your playing always beyond inspiring. This is a working musicians review - spot on!
I played a metal gig with a 202 last Friday. Rig was an Ampero MP-80, Quilter 202, and a Mesa 2x12. Not my rig was my friends. I was absolutely blown away how great it sounded. I bought a Mach 3 and it just came. I am psyched.
Excellent demo! I think (and I hope) that some people out there will never talk bad about SS amps anymore. As for me, I am happy with my Quilter 101, with a VOX cabinet - it does everything I want doesn't break my back or the bank. Keep up the good work, Shawn! Cheers from Australia!
The best review I've ever seen about Quilter 202...you are the reason I already ordered it! Only thing,I'd like to see the out from the back how it responds
Awesome Shawn! What I really love about all of your demo's is that you are to the point and really show all of the features to true form!!! I have been using a Quilter MP Mach II for several years now exclusively! I purchased the TB-202 last month, and have now retired the MP! The Vintage mode EQ on the TB is incredible! The Mach II does not get that chimey in any of the settings! Pat Quilter definitely got the EQ frequencies down on this one!!!
A good friend of mine went searching for a new rig after his was stolen. Ultimately he decided on Quilter as he was long tired of lugging around a big heavy head. For bar gigs the Quilter easily outclassed the atmosphere in tone and versatility. It's all just too easy.
Shawn, I've watched this review for the n-th time, and I have to say, man WOW! This is by far the GOAT review of the Tone Block 202. You've clearly demonstrated the strong points of this platform and it sounds killah. Oh, great playing, too! I'm a fan!
Thanks Shawn: what a rig, sounds great ! Just have to find an empty Marshall head to put it in for visual jubilation :-D \m/ Btw: Bias FX is a great little modeler that works fine on a daw, without spending lots of dough...
Great video Shawn! I have a request! Would you mind making a tutorial/demo of how to get those classic 80' chorused clean tones with a 'normal' pedalboard and amp setup?
That specific bognor cab, 1x12 or 2x12, with that exact speaker (V30) is one of the best sounding overall cabs I've ever heard. Marshall on Mario Mushrooms.
Thanks for the demo as always, Shawn! I haven't had a chance to mess with the guitar heads, but I use the Bass Block 800 and it handles my normal gig with John 5 (in which I'm using the VS-XO I bought based, uh, on your demo) and any other gig I've done with ease, and anywhere in the world. As someone else said, too easy. I'm not likely to buy a Kemper or Axe myself, but I think one of these would be a nice home studio addition for no-hassle guitar tracking dates. I hate running people through software when I can't crank up a cab, and these heads seem like a better value for money than getting a fancy attenuator, although I suppose that's inevitable when you start to accumulate cool guitar heads (starting, slowly.)
Superb detailed demo, but you make everything sound good. Nice compact amp. I even like the reverb. For stage I would like more gain (maybe double gain buttons) and a little more versality like channel switching and a boost. Just my 2 cents.
the limiter to me sounds like swapping out 5ar4 to a 5y3g rectifier tube on my Princeton reverb. it makes it more compressed / more sustain is the way i would describe it.
Since the Quilter is 200 watts, wondering what the power handling on your speaker cab is? I'm assuming it would be at least 200 watts to handle the amp? Good demo BTW.
Nice review. Question...with tube amps I generally run OD pedals between guitar and amp input to "goose" the front end of amp; delay etc thru the loop. Do you set up the ToneBlock this way or run OD pedals thru the loop?
Thanks for watching and for the question. I think, in my opinion, that it would be best to run OD pedals to the front and use time-based and modulation effects in the loop.
Thank you for this review! I'm a player on a tight budget and right now I'm weighing the pros and cons of this or an Orange Super Crush 100 head ... And, this has the very convenient feature of a headphones out mode ... So, I'm struggling to choose between out of the box extreme distortion breakup which I absolutely want .. or paying more for this while requiring at least one pedal but offering headphone play ... It's a tough call bc both seem like a great deal
just a thought here .. mentioning vintage 30's in your cab ... have you ever tried some real vintage Fane speakers ...?? all of my 1970's Orange amps came with them ..
I just got a V30 for a 1x12 cab. I don't plan on ever taking my Tone Block 202 past 50 watts. Am I in danger of blowing the speaker out even at 50 watts? The V30 is 60 watts.
Shawn. One question.... how would you set up the tb202 if I want to use it with my line 6 pod go..... through the input or through the return in the fx loop to by pass the preamp? Ty.
@@MauricioGarcia-mk5bz The FRFR works at the input of the amp. It's more for when you're running into a flat response cabinet. You should try it both ways, even into a regular guitar cabinet. You might find that you like running out of the pod into the input with the FRFR switch engaged better than just running into the FX return. Either way will work.
Shawn Tubbs Shawn. Thank you so much. You are the best. And your video is amazing. I learned a lot. I’m already a fan of your channel bud. Hehe. Thanks again man. 💪🏻💪🏻😎
...oh my ...a PRS without those f-ing birds! ...did you get that custom-made? ...the only other one I've seen is Bukovac's stripped back single pick-up which I would consider buying if it were part of a standard range? ...very nice
One more thing (in case you see this), I literally just bought one of these heads because of your video, R.J.'s video, and Jay Leonard's. If I dared to look for a demo by Pete Thorn I probably would have been compelled to buy stock in Quilter or something. Your's got me started. Thanks!
Damn. Great playing dude. Looking for a nice pedal platform amp w a nice clean sound. Using the Seymour Duncan powerstage now. Sounds great w pedals but horrible clean
Suria Kumar Made in China...DESIGNED IN USA! That’s the new phrase that American companies use to throw you off. Made in America STILL means... Made in America!!!
Harry Boggan they’ve moved manufacturing overseas but the quality remains. Also worth noting that no factories were closed. QSC (Quilters Sound Company) still has a factory in California.
@UCVoVhjxN1L4iDWW1_JZIBAw Heck yes I believe it's true. Maybe less. Just look around for a good used solid state combo amp for 50-150 dollars. Try it out. You can't make good decisions on amps by watching a video. You have to try one out and play through it. With pedals if that's what you use. Also without pedals. How does it sound clean? How does it sound good and loud? You will still have to carry around a cabinet for this lightweight head. This amp here is designed to be very loud. Is that what you want?
I'm late to the game by holy shit everything I watch that you blows my mind you're one of the ones that makes you feel like sending your guitar down the sewer line in a brand new coffin case 😂 you're up there in that best in world category
