Yes, Donna, the mini-cotton puffs quilt pattern does look similar enough to the cotton plant. The cotton boll is what the bunch of cotton is called. Apparently, this plant is similar to a dandelion. Google tells you much more. I remember my Daddy telling me of his remembering when he picked cotton along side of the "brown" children, at 5 & 6 years old. His Daddy was born on 1892 & told us stories of playing with "the slave children"...Neither if them were derogatory when talking about all the children, brow & white playing together on the school playground, in 1890's through to 1930's. They both were born in Southern Alabama, about 1 hour north of Mobile; on a farm. My Grandmother would share her similar stories & grew up sewing dresses for children & women alike.

Such a beautiful quilt, I was worried about all those tiny pieces, but it was really worth it in the end. I bet it took a very long time to make this one. May be my favorite of all the quilts you've done. The colors are perfect together.

Oh my gosh, I just love how the "on point" pattern developed, yet so easy.... almost like magic! I can't even imagine the thought power it took into designing this pattern...it's so beautiful. Your instruction makes it so simple and I love your fabric selections. Batiks are perfect for this and so many other designs because of the wide range of colors in each pattern.😁

In addition to Paula Nagy's comment for a video on cutting fabric . . . I too would like to see this, but with a smaller cutting area. I think a lot of us are limited in the area we have available. For years, my only cutting space was a 20" by 40" folding table, I'm now able to go up one size on my cutting board, but still don't have as much space as you do, unfortunately, and would love to see ways I could cut, for example, long straight strips with limited space. I always seem to get a bend in mine in the middle when I have to fold the fabric because of limited space.

@jordanfabrics8380
@jordanfabrics8380 2 года назад
We have very, very rarely found any bleeding issues with Hoffman, Kaufman, Moda, Anthology, or Banyan batiks. You can use a color catcher cloth when you first wash your finished project (Shout makes a good one) found in the laundry section at the grocery store. These catch excess dye that might come out of your fabric so it doesn't get deposited onto your light fabrics.

I did a quilt with red and white fabric. I don't usually pre-wash but I did that time. Still got bleeding, but I threw some color catchers in the wash and had very little bleeding. A second wash before drying it took care of the problem. I almost always throw a color catcher in when I wash a quilt for the first time, especially if its dark colors with white. Very rarely have bleeding and need to wash it a second time when I do that.
