Quilting of drunkard’s path block 1/5 - I am surprised how many quilting possibilities it offers!

It is time to quilt a larger project. I made a simple wall hanging consisting of 16 drunkard’s path blocks. The block is an absolute classic. However, it offers so many possibilities for quilting! Traditional and modern. You can cluster different elements or quilt them separately. You can quilt the elements as whole, or destruct it with different shapes… let’s try different possibilities. Today the center part!
I also added some nice music @liborioconti . It is relaxing, meditative and it is similar to the music I listen to when I quilt. I hope you like it 😊

Thank you! I am always excited, when I start such project. I have some plan for quilting but never a definite one. The project takes over sooner or later :) ❤❤❤

Thank you once again. Curved piecing is my all time favourite patchwork technique. Vielen Dank for the many options for quilting a drunkards path. It looks really great to have the variety of designs within each block. I am truly inspired.

Hi Mara! I love the curved piecing but I don't like to sew it! It took me few years to leran how to do that! Paper piecing is another example.... However, curves give this extra something for free motion quilting so I prevailed😅😂. I just finished the next section. Again, different ways of quilting and division. I hope you will like it!❤❤❤

I know I’m crazy, but I also like foundation paper piecing. I am looking forward to seeing the next stage.

Thank you for this very kind feedback! I am OK piecer. I am not overly precise, but it is acceptable as my local quilting friends are saying ( they are so awsome and precise, it is scary!). But I do like my quilting too😅😁❤❤❤

Hi Carla, I was looking for interesting block to quilt. Drunkards path is one of them, definitely. The log cabin and courthouse as well, ;). And I needed something bigger for a mini series for my videos. Thank you for your feedback!❤❤❤

Dropping in to say hello, Gosia. I have never done a Drunkard's Path block, guess the curves scare me. I always love your thread color choices. ~Cyn

Don't let the drunkard's path block scare you. The 5th quilt I ever did was a wedding ring. From there, the drunkard's path was a breeze! It's really not difficult at all. Just do one block and you'll see. :)

Hi Cynthia, I hope your area is not too cold! Curves and paper piecing are not really my thing. But the curves are so great for quilting! I learned first from sew kind of wonderful. You are cutting to size so it was OK, but the classical drunkard's path tempate.... ugh. It took me some years and the template with the slots you can cut on the edge to get better. About the colors selection. I am always on the conservative side, monochormatic, blue, gray, white and black. And then I started quilting and I learned a lot from my local fabric dealer. And then I bought me the color wheel booklet.... I am using it a lot ! Warm greetings from Germany!!!!

Oh, it's about to turn frigid here! I've lived in colder climates, but we have several nights in the single digits this coming week, not looking forward to it. I live in the North Georgia Mountains at about 2000 ft elevation, been here almost 22 years, but we rarely get anywhere close to 0*F, not a lot of snow. This week, we get to have both, ugh. Color wheels are so helpful! Blessings, my quilting friend. Stay warm and safe!~Cynthia

Yes, I have a crocheted blanket in progress, love having it on my lap in this weather! That said, I have to go out to the barn to check on my chickens a few times each day. Some of them are very old and this weather is going to be a huge stress for them. Got some tea next to me, warming me up from the inside out!

Thank you! I will try to prpepare a pdf to download with the next video. You can use the curved ruler to make this block. Only then you do not have any extra space next to the round part. I am using the standard drunkard's path rulers. Let me see what I can do. Thank you for your comment! Have agreat sunday too!!!! Inspired by my swirls I just made cynammon swirls for breakfast!😄❤❤❤❤

I enjoy all of your videos and look forward to watching them. If you feel up to the task, I would like to see your procedures. BTW I see someone else is asking about the half circle ruler. I would like one also but can't find any in the United States. If you don't mind the question, where do you live?

Hi, I bough my set in Germany from a German on-line shop with sewing machines. It was last year and it looks like there was a shortage already then as my friend could not buy it shortly after. Maybe we should contact HQ directly? Thank you so much for your comment and feedback ❤❤❤

I second that question! And what thread? :)
@quiltingnerd
@quiltingnerd 8 месяцев назад
I use a Janome M7. The thread is cotton 50 wt thread from aurifil. Often I use a polyester thread 40 wt too. In my case, I aim more for the color. For my large quilts I use the 50 wt thread more often than not. In Europe, the selection is more limited than in USA, unformtunately. Our quilting community is still growing. ❤❤❤@@iwp_paiv

@@quiltingnerd Oh wow, that's a fancy one :D did the ruler foot come with it as standard, or did you have to buy it separately?
@quiltingnerd
@quiltingnerd 8 месяцев назад
Hi there! I presume, the fancy relates to my machine.... yeah, I wanted to be able to quilt large quilts and even a small long arm would not fit into my sewing corner (I have literally 2 square meters ! So this is the best combination of two worlds. And yes, all my quilting feet came with the machine as standard. The same was with my old Janome. ❤❤❤@@iwp_paiv

Hi there, it is. I bought this set of rulers (there are several of different sizes) here in Germany. My friends wanted to get the same and it looks like I got one of the last ones from this on-line shop. Maybe it is time to contact HQ and ask them directly..... I am not buying such rulers very often, as I need time to find use for them. ❤❤❤
