Grreat video. It is so nice to have a tutorial with no "selling". So many are using expensive tools, irons, notions. It can be discouraging for those of us on a budget.

Simply brilliant. Kay ( I am using my husbands PC). I love your style of presentation and learn something every time I watch you.
Second revisit! Viewed it originally and thought it was clever. Now I have a assortment of scraps and they are stripes! Going to give this a go.From Bev Martin simmering in very hot and dry upstate NewYork. Hope you are well.
What an easy, very effective technique. Loved the striped trees! I don’t buy much striped fabric as I never knew quite what to do with it. This is a great idea for a table runner or wall hanging. Thanks very much. Always look forward to your tutorials.
What a great project! Why is it I can never think outside the box?!! This would make wonder gifts for those family members that don’t want anymore flannel pajamas, lol, lol. Thanks for sharing.
Love them. I have some nice pieces of christmas fabrics (not stripes I know) but a nice colourful Christmas Tree table runner is what I now have in mind. Thank you once again for another great video. So look forward to them
Super idea! As others have said for table runner or mug rug gifts too. I will have to test them out, but might look cute as well in different sized groups without the trunks (like your first outlay before adding the trunks). Thanks for another great vid & cutting tips!
Great idea. I bet I’ve got enough in my stash to pull this off. I bought a lot of stripes over the last few years because I like to use them for borders on certain quilts.
Just wanted to say that I had seen table runners using the tree theme but that most used templates. So your ideas r much appreciated as there is no templates needed and such freedom to play. The idea about the background to show the tree up on a busier background, I would never have thought of that either. So thank you very much, excellent camera work from ‘in a pickle’😀.
Like very how you use the standard ruler instead of a single use specialty ruler. Cute and simple layout. Good use for stripes that I seldom know what to do with them. Thank you.
Anyone know/guesses what backing Susan uses for her applique as there is loads on the market? not all are soft when after ironing. they still need to have some softness to them. only one I found it heat n bond lite which I have used before that still maintains some material feeling after ironing and washing.
Can we applique the trees without using Interfacing? I am using minimal chemicals at the moment....thank you. I absolutely love your trees and layout ❤
Another alternative would be to find a 'Piecing' pattern/method instead...you would have 'seam' lines, so the look would not be as 'clean' as an applique method...good luck!
Yes, you can do applique without interfacing. You can turn the edges for needle-turn perhaps? We didn't use to use chemicals or fusible products and people have been doing applique for centuries.
These would be adorable in raw edge applique!! Just cut your tree shape, pin it in place and stitch 1/8-1/4in from edge, voila! The edges will rag a bit with use and washing, but I think that adds to the charm. If you pink the edges they will curl as they rag, and a little less fraying. I never think of fusible interfacing as having chemicals, thank you for the reminder!
Why type of fuseable did you use? I tried it once and I kept getting a glue build up on my needle. Turned out to be very frustrating for me since it actually made my needle skip stitches 🧵
I also use Heat N Bond. A lot! Lol! I have never had an issue w the glue gumming my needles. I usually stitch my stuff down after fusing it so I use the Heat N Bond Light.
