You are an awesome instructor. I am going to use this pattern for a baby quilt, so I hope I can figure out how to do it using 1 1/2 “ strips. Hope to see more of your videos. I have everyone I have seen so far saved. Thank you very much. I love your voice and how detailed but easy to follow instructions you provide.

I've never seen the chevron done before. You make it so easy and and simple. That would make a great table runner and/or place mats. Love your style of teaching straight and to the point, but done gently.

Thank you so much, I have watched a heap of videos, they do it so quickly you can’t see properly or they show when they have finished and won’t say the size of the pieces because it is in someone’s pattern that you can no longer get. Common sense at last. Now I can work out how to make a tote bag for my sister. Thanks from uk.

Thank you for this video. I did not think of trimming as I go. You did not caution everyone that this method results in a bias edge on the long sides and to be careful in the handling and sewing of them. Have you tried the Braid template from Pepper Cory? It does a smaller braid (width) but the long edges are on the straight grain and you only have to trim the top and bottom of the braid.

if you want to sew them onto a fabric foundation base,where do you place the square to start? I have a foundation piece of calico,around 18inces wide by around 28 inches long and I halved it to find the centre.so,do I halve the little square and place it half and half on the centre bottom?or have I got myself all bamboozled? probably the latter. I have a bunch of small pieces of what the Americans call " homespun plaid fabrics" and I want to use them in a nice little design to make the fabrics more presentable. as you guessed,I don't like that type of fabric but I know someone who does,so I want to make some large blocks and join them together for a quilt for her. I am sewing by hand. I apologise for my long windedquestions.

А почему бы начинать и заканчивать шитье не квадратами, а треугольниками побольше? Тогда, я думаю, отходов было бы меньше

I am planning on making a table dinner a bit wider. If I have the following cuts will it work? 2 1/2" square. ....one side 2 1/2" X 6 1 /2 ".... other side 2 1/2" X 8 1 /2 ". Would this be as nice? I really like matching colors on each side. Thank you for a nice straightforward tutorial.😊

I'm a bit confused - how far down do you sew each time?
@kathleenmayhorne3183
@kathleenmayhorne3183 11 месяцев назад
Sorry, but if you keep the strips folded, so pieces form left and right units as you cut, and cut a 45°angle for the outside, all cut to one size. Your french braid will have straight sides on the pieced units, and you won't need to cut all of those triangles off. This method you used is great for chevrons, join the pieced strips with partial seams though. Cut the tip across straight, once pieced, then put the bits cut off, on the start end with partial seams, for much less waste. All the best.
@siscarmichael2949
@siscarmichael2949 5 лет назад
Would the beginning square and strips be longer from the beginning of you wanted to make the braid wider? I hope this question makes sense.

why not sandwich them right sides together then sew ? cut the triangles after or make half square triangles?

But when u cut this off, there isnt a 1/4 inch seam allowance???? Or am i wrong? Thanks
@GourmetQuilter
@GourmetQuilter 5 лет назад
It is just a straight edge so you can stitch a 1/4" seam along that edge. As with any cut fabric, it ends up smaller once sewn in than when cut.
