I don't think he'll use new tactics. With Suarez returning from injury I think he'll tweak his tactics and try for more automations of their play. He has to get more from the RB be it Semedo or Roberto.
The return of Suarez could only bring him more options in central attack where there is yet Messi and Griezmann. I think he cannot try something new other that "emergency tactics" for now, until he has a true squad (with wingers, attacking midfielders...) But now he has just to similar players to try other thing that his 4-3-1-2 :/
One thing I’ve noticed is that we perform much better in away games under Setién. There’s been a mentality change already, the players are relying less on Messi and growing some balls.
Robert Moore True, in Naples even after conceding a goal early on and giving 1-2 clear chances away, the player's still did not look dejected and their aggression or energy didn't drop, which would happen evey time under Valverde.
While I think we're playing better, I still see things I don't like, such as: 1. Rakitic starting 2. Vidal on the wing? 3. Roberto playing over Semedo 4. Subs coming in WAY too late 5. No width
Roberto is playing above semedo bcoz I guess he is a better passer, which would be understandable if dembele is playing but without dembele we don't have width in right flank. So I think if semedo is available when fcb play their next game he might start

Hasn't semedo played more under setien, Vidal of the wing may seem like wired tactic but we dont have any winger other than ansu and recently braithwaite, vidal was also up there for his movement and hold up play, needs winger to have width
When Rakitic plays in games the team performs well numbers in stats like key passing pressing don't believe me even Setien said that to board search in Google.

Thanks for this drop FMS. I suspect you'll need to do a follow up in a couple of months again. I think the Barca Setien inherited was limited in various ways however they were misused and poorly prepared physically and psychologically. His first major task is to get the squad properly fit and in the correct frame of mind where a meritocracy exists for minutes. The squad still lacks certain key profiles and with the board as erratic as they are we cannot safely say those personnel issues will be addressed. I expect a fitted Barca to emerge after after a few games are played with a little more cohesion and execution of Setien's tactics. Moving forward I think we have to move Messi off that RW, use him as an AMF and get an actual RW/RWF... the squad gets that highly creative MF, we regain width both flanks and fullbacks operate as fullbacks instead of primary width.... idk if any of that happens though.
Barça improved on various aspects under QS (build-up, high pressing, maintaining ball possession...). But in my eyes it lacked consistency. Being able to repeat patterns of play, anticipate teammate's movement, play in a more fluid way, will hopefully come w/ time now.
It's a bit unrealistic as a Midfield as gifted as iniesta Xavi and Busquets comes once in a century. That is only way to play more fluid,having Midfielders who are almost too good like Xavi

In the matches I saw Martin braithwaite surprisingly providing so he would be a good super sub if barca are lacking in a few games or can even start the games

They wouldn't yell at anybody, because that's not how they are. You've seen Messi plenty of times since he has been given the armband repositioning his teammates in the midfield and the young lads like Fati and Puig have said many times how he constantly gives them advice and tells them that they're the future of the team. Messi might not be the best captain, but he ain't the worst either.
This man has been in the club for 4 months and he has already improved the team with so many things being unavailable to him. His game against Mallorca showed just that. Im willing to bet that if were going to have Valverde for that game, it would have been a 2-2 at best

Look at Liverpool b4 the arrival of Virgil, great attacking unit, famed front 3, but always let down by a poor defence. Watching this video is hilarious for some reason after Bayern beat Barça in 2019-20 season QF. But I wouldn’t entirely put the blame on Setien. The players, board and the president at the time has to equally take blame and responsibility. Bayern defeated an aged Barça that badly needed a rebuild and that was centered and focused around Messi. Although Barça still haven’t made a "comeback" in European stages, it still feels a breath of fresh air as Barcelona plays as a team under Xavi.

I think having Suárez is definitely a plus for the team because of his mobility and his ability to score from many positions. If he becomes a threat, that immediately frees Messi and/or Griezman to attack. In my opinion, De Jong and Arthur Melo as interiors are the best combination but they need to step up their game and start getting those assists and goals on. Vidal and Braithwaite are good hands when you need more dynamism and you're playing against defensive teams or you need to shake up the game. Ansu Fati and Riqui Puig if he plays can also be very useful because they're more unpredictable.
You are so accurate in your assessment of Barca. Apart from messi, they lack creativity up front. They don't have it in midfield but I'm hoping Frankie will develop this sense under Quique and Messi's tutelage. If Xavi returns to coach, I'm sure he will fix the midfield. Iniesta was brilliantly creative and they are missing his drive forward. Griezmann has been disappointing. Still don't think he should be playing at Barca and they should sell him and get someone who fits the bill. Braithwaite holds promise. Dembele ??? But Suarez just doesn't do it for me. I prefer the likes of Et'o. So much faster and pounces on a ball ..a real threat. Not sure if Braithwaite will be an Et'o replacement when Suarez retires but Braithwaite (although younger than Suarez (is no spring chicken). He sure has been a pleasant surprise. Messi is being given free reign again like he was under Pep which is a must. The more he has the ball, the better chance Barca have of winning.
Since Quique Setién came to Barcelona, the team improved a lot. He is very intelligent and flexible coach with good phylosophy and knowledge. He can play with many several formations like 4-3-3, 3-4-3, 4-3-1-2, 3-4-1-2 and 4-1-4-1. But we need more versatility, creativity, solidity, dynamism, personality, width and verticality. 🔵🔴💛

Setien had a thin squad when he took over. Suarez out injured and Todibo sent out on loan had given him even less options to work with. With the break and players like Suarez returning, we can begin to see his preferred style of play take effect much more quicker
he was a scapegoat for the issues under Bartomeau. he apparently fell out with Messi but Messi ended up leaving a year later anyway! he needed time to put his style of play onto the squad which was really difficult because of the unprecedented lockdown, but he was doing since players were becoming less reliant on Messi under him. I hope he doesn’t retire from management, he was so good to watch at Betis and really improved Barca compared to Koeman and Valverde- both of them were embarrassed in the UCL too.
I believe the games from now on will be more indicative of his influence. The squad was not fit enough physically under valverde. But with improved fitness and time to get used to tactics, it will be interesting to see the improvements from previous seasons. I think there are good changes to the side since setien’s arrival
Not to be unfair to Setien, as mentioned in the video, by the time it was made he was only 8 games in and I actually like him, and I'm writing when La Liga is almost finished with Real Madrid very certain to be champions, but the main conclusion I can surmise from this is: Valverde wasn't responsible from Barcelona output. Not as much as he was blamed at least. As much as we don't like his approach, Valverde proved to be effective, and it just happened he was the one living a transition phase and his style made it painfully obvious to everybody. Barcelona has been trying to emulate Pep's success but even Pep changed. Barcelona hasn't. This era of Barcelona ended, Valverde just happened to be there and it brought trophies to the table anyway. There is a lot of people that owns Valverde an apology, he was the weakest link of a Barsa that is broken as an institution and no amount of creativity on Setien's part will fix that, not with a huge stream of luck. This rift is institutional. Barsa is most likely going blank this season, and that would be such a problem if it wasnt by the way and the institution itself and the fact there is a chance they will go blank next season as well. Unless some deep changes are made, any success will be likely assisted by luck and by the presence and talent of individualities. Not a thing Barsa fans are willing to accept it seems.
Coming to update this after third Setien's draw in a row and with RM with the championship at hands: Valverde wasn't the problem, not the biggest one at least. Waiting for him to finish the season, specially because Barca was the leader at the time, and then looking for a replacement looks a lot like a better move now. We didn't like Valverde, but ignoring Barca's institutional problem and scapegoating on the manager was obviously and clearly a bad move and whoever supported is being proven wrong. Reading the comments pointing at particular absences, Dembelé being the most prominent, continues this trend of being blind sided. Setien deserves more opportunities in the future, he needs to plan without a pandemic happening and having his own players in the summer market, again, I don't think he is the problem, as Valverde wasnt. Valverde deserves and apology, he deserved a better farewell. As much as we didnt like how he did things, he deserved better.
Great analysis, keep it up. Let’s face it, anyone can do better than Valverde. Barca really needs to de-age the squad if they want to complete. Instead of wasting time on targets like Pjanic. But Maia who will provide width and competition and a world class young creative midfield like Kai Havertz.

The role of FdJ is different than at Ajax. last year every attack started by Frenkie. Now with Alba on the left making the cross to the attack players it is hard for him to make the assists and the difference. The biggest problem I see is that we need creative interiors. The reason the team triumphed after Xavi's departure is because Messi and Neymar would cut inside towards the middle and both create amazing opportunities (Iniesta had started declining a bit at this point). Dembele is extremely fast, but is not creative and instead loses the ball with ease 90% of the time. Coutinho and now Arthur are very good with the ball in their feet, but they both seem to play it safe most of the time instead of looking for the right lobe or through pass, or pulling skills I know they have. Rakitic has declined beyond recognition, Vidal is a lion, but not very skilled, and De Jong has his days of good football, but all in all, we haven't had a consistently good interior for years (except Messi I guess 🤔).
If, most of squad was young and if setien have a chance to buy 2 3 players in transfer market he would definitely make this barca team the world class like, in pep's, era. In pep's era we had young squad available graduates from La masia xavi iniesta messi being world class also were, able to press consistently .Also capable defense and fullbacks like dani Alves young busquet who were able to press that's why the barca team of pep era was best he was not a god coach just a brilliant coach like setien. If only setien had young Messi and whole squad he would have dominate the world with this barca team.
A midfield trio of Puig FDJ Vidal or Arthur FDJ Vidal or even Arthur FDJ Puig would have brilliant creativity.. and with 5 subs per game now, I'm sure that we'll see at least one of the above midfield set ups every game
As a barca fan for more than 2 (closer to 3) decades, I can definitely say Valverde was one of the very worst coaches we have had. Setien in most situations would be a success, but he is in a very difficult situation. I could write a novel explaining the terrible decision making in building this squad which you can trace back to 7 or 8 years ago. But we can't cover all that here. But this squad is too old, unbalanced and misses key pieces (dribblers, final third passers, athletic flank players and more) and this plus the tactical limitations of having both Suarez and Messi will give Seiten a clear ceiling. But more specifically about the current situation. First i have to declare, this Barca has almost no chance of winning the champions league and could win the league only because Madrid have their own failures also. He has improved the short range passing game, Barca are more capable of quick combinations and positional rotation which is clearly rehearsed, whereas under Valverde everything offensive was simply individualism. Im disappointed he has already succumbed to this group of players who are frankly too old, inflexible and have too much power, by already abandoning the 3 at the back. For me, with the 334 he started with was much better in both attack and defence, both transition and organisation. Having 3 at the back is frankly necessary for this team, because they dont have the ability to escape high pressure against strong teams but simultaneously can't defend counter attacks against anyone when playing with a back 2. They require the third man permanently for both these reasons. But I believe strongly he has gone away from this idea, not because of tactical reasons, but because the players don't want it. Against strong teams, the lack of all I have mentioned will show. We arent capable of 180 minutes of consistent high level performance in attack and especially not in defence. I could go on and on but in conclusion, anything is better than Valverde so most Barca fans will accept that. Me included. But every coach we have now will have alot of impossible tactical problems and Setien is no exception. He has done well enough, but im afraid I can't this this squad doing anything impressive what soever.
Its been better football for sure, but there is still a lot of work to be done. I have full confidence that setien can make us the best in the world again.
That's easy. Suarez and, despite his size, Messi are tough guys and they wouldn't put up with Neymar's antics. Neymar is an incredibly talented, but spoiled brat. I've never had that feeling about the other two. Sometimes it doesn't look it but if you watch closely they work their buts off for 90+ minutes EVERY match. They're also smarter and more determined. So Neymar had to act like a man. At PSG he's a diva in the fifth or sixth best league in the world.

Don't think he's made them better but he is playing the way Barça want to play, Valverde knew the squad's limitations and set up to keep them from being exploited at the cost of attractive football, Setien has played slightly better but in the long run he'll be sacked because he's too small of a name to tell the heavyweights in the squad what to do.
In absence of wingers I would love to see barcelona playing 4-3-1-2 where messi will play as CAM and Suarez & Griezmann Upfront , depending on situation Griezmann & Messi can switch their Positions which will make marking difficult for defenders.
Barcelona urgently needs at least two fast and young attackers. The team has become really out of pace and stamina and these days you need these two things to win big things. Also they need a player in the middle who can dribble and also can create like Iniesta. Messi is already alone in the attacking side and he has to comeback to help the midfield, too. Defence is alright since Setien's arrival but with these players up front nobody can make this team's attack sharp.
I've been watching setien from a long time now , people doesn't consider a manager good till he wins something , look at Klopp , he wasn't even in the top 10 but as he won UCL with Liverpool , people went mad. Setien's a class manager tho he needs to change something and that's physicality , it seems like Barca's player are only taught about skills and almost no player possess the Physicality you need during the game . It's an issue that needs to be addressed , Barca sux when it comes to corners , they can't defend nor they can score from'em. Corners play an important role if u look Barca's history of them losing.
You can't compare the goals per game, you have to compare the chances created, which we are now much better at. But the players have not been clinical enough
I feel sleepy while barca plays 🙂 why they Don't go for create chances, instead passing themself, irritating. I like the way how luis enrique played barca :)
