So...if members are prompted to kill another person because of whatever holy reason they felt the Holy Ghost or an angel or the holy spirit is guiding them to fulfill -- like Nephi to Laban-- and because they were instructed that following the precepts of the book of mormon would cause them to get closer to God than by any other book... then the holy ghost, or the spirit or yourself justifies breaking commandments, taking lives. Unless -- contrary to what elder bednar illustrates in the beginning -- it really DOES matter to know correct interpretations and the ability to discern what is and what is not by the spirit or from the holy ghost. All too often nowadays we are misunderstanding the gospel as having many interpretations vs having many possible applications. Two different things. Wasn't it our beloved prophet Joseph Smith Jr who originally idenyified the gravity of having many interpretations?! "Joseph Smith-History 1:12: He describes being troubled by the differing interpretations of scripture among Christian denominations. This lack of consensus made him doubt the ability to find truth solely through the Bible. "[The teachers of religion] of the different sects understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible." We hunger for specificity and clarification about the spirit especially what it isn't. Otherwise. .
