As a straight guy I have a couple of question to people that are against gays and lesbians .first question--- why are so many people like u worried about other people and their sex lives? I believe a person should mind their own business and worry about how good you perform with your partner and how well your relationship is concerning YOU. Too many people in other peoples business. I say if an adult wants to be with another adult and its mutual , GO ahead and live your life . And don't say what the bible says it's a sin and your concerned that the gay or lez will go to hell and you care about them . Stop feeding the bullshit. You can care less . PEOPLE-- MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS.. DAMN.seems like some people are so against gays that maybe they have something they are hiding themselves. Hhmmmmmmmmm????

People should be free to practice their religion, but a book written thousands of years ago by who knows who should not be used to dictate policies in a modern country or society. It is an excuse for bigotry and discrimination and if there is a god, I'll wager who he will 'judge' in the end and I don't think it will be gay people, or any other vulnerable group. If people have a real problem with serving a certain group of people, they shouldn't be in the public service to begin with.

The law does not designate that the religion has to be Christian. So a muslim could perhaps refuse to serve women who enter their establishment with their head uncovered.

The small business exception is a joke. What about a small town where almost everything is a small business? Minorities just shouldn't live there? I don't care if its a major corporation or a fruit stand, you should have to serve anyone who isn't directly causing your business trouble. If you want to live in civilization, you play by civilization's rules.

I believe the BIBLE literally. And in Leviticus 19:19 it says that you shall not wear a garment woven from two different fabrics. So since the BIBLE obviously made polyester a SIN, I would like to refuse service to anyone whose clothing labels don't read 100%. And I say that with DEEPLY HELD religious conviction. Businesses should be free to discriminate against anyone so long as they're free to face the consequences.

I love these state senators who voted for the bill and now want it to be vetoed. You could say maybe they didn't read the bill fully and made a mistake and they're doing the right thing now. Except they passed the SAME BILL LAST YEAR, and the governor vetoed it. They just like passing this bill to make the bigots happy, claim they are being misunderstood, then get the governor to veto it so they look "merciful."

I think any woman should beware if this becomes law. Any male can quote Leviticus (15 : 19-30 & 20 : 18) regarding her period. She is not allowed to mix with anyone because she will make them unclean. If anti-gay people can quote Leviticus, why not misogynists? So, I wonder if a religious male boss, when he sees a moody woman at work, will tell her to go home, not because he has any empathy for her discomfort, but because she is contaminating his workplace.

I can kind of understand where they're coming from with the wedding cake stuff (though it's obviously terrible and dumb and wrong for a million reasons), but not serving people at all just because they're gay? You're not even promoting their lifestyle just by fixing their car or serving them food. By that logic, shouldn't all fornicators and divorcees and liars (no matter how small a lie) and those who don't always honor their parents and all who judge others (ironic, huh?) be denied service places too? Because that's, you know, everybody. And also, if people were to be denied service for being non-Christian, how in the world does denying them service do anything good? Wouldn't serving them with a friendly demeanor and a kind heart do more to possibly make them have a good view of Christians and Christianity than being cold and mean?

How exactly would you prove that the discrimination was based on someone's "deeply held religious beliefs"? Would everyone who holds such beliefs have to join an official church & receive an card identifying them as being a member of said religion, & as being a member they believe in XYZ? Come on, we all know this would just be used to justify people discriminating against people they don't like. There's no standard, statistical way to prove if someone believes what they claim.

I hate when people try to defend their religion by saying things like oh those aren't "true" Christians or "real" Christians, well they are under the same religion as you, why don't you do something and control your damn people! Teach them the right way to be, instead of trying to force other people to be the way you think is "right". I'm not a Bible scholar but there's gotta be some more devastating quotes with regard to discrimination. A look at other religions would've been interesting as well. That being said the absurdity of this law should be apparent to anyone.

Cenk, I think you're wrong on allowing businesses under 50 to discriminate. There are some rural communities around the country that do not have the big box stores and supermarkets near them. All the have is Ma and Pa grocery stores, locally owned department and hardware stores and one bar/restaurant that seats 25 people. None of these stores have more than 50 employees. Where does a LGBT person go?

I'm waiting for the merriment to ensue when some member of one of the splinter LDS groups (and they do have a significant membership) to say "Hey, that's great! Now you can no longer object to my deeply held, sincere religious belief in polygamy, where can I get my marriage licenses?

I remeber hearing about this in 6th grade, in my Catholic school. The strange thing was, that in our religion class, we were told they were wrong to try to pass this law.

The worst thing about this is that they are double dipping. It already is legal in Arizona for a business owner to fire an employee because they are gay. Now they are extending it where the business doesn't even have to look at a gay customer. I'm really hoping Jan Brewer will veto this bill like she has in the past to related bills.

Can you tell in AZ who is gay by sight? Wouldn't we need a badge or something on their ID to show this? If I am religious and I don't want to serve a gay person, how do I know who is who? Doesn't this law allow me as a religious person to decide who is gay and who is not gay on the spot? So not only can I discriminate, I can also decide who is who just by appearance. I recall little from my undergrad political philosophy courses, but the basics are still stored within -- representative democracy is inherently flawed because when the voters have the power to elect lawmakers, they will at times elect very bad lawmakers, who make bad laws based on their fears, their prejudices, their own moral stains. I remember growing up in the 60s and 70s most businesses had in their window, "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone". But in all those years I don't recall hearing about anyone being refused service.

Actually the big thing about separating Religion and state is to prevent your right to follow whatever belief you have from being infringed upon. Also to prevent situations in which there is a state religion which further controls people.

Religious rights are all fine and good. So are gun rights, arguably. But you know, there are other rights as well. The right not to be discriminated against, for example. Sometimes, these rights are in conflict, which creates a dilemma, which is a reason we have a democratic process. Only citing one right (religious rights, in this case) and ignoring all other rights that it violates isn't... it's... I don't know... Stupid? Incompetent? Arrogant? Deliberately ignorant? Bigoted? Arizaona has a lot of spare space between them. Suppose you have been driving for hundreds of miles and you have hundreds of more miles of empty space to go. Isn't it cute that Religious freedom has turned from stopping Religious people from being persecuted, to Religious people being allowed to persecute.

To serve or not serve someone because of their orientation is completely contrary to Christian beliefs. However, when you make people supply an item that is knowingly going to be used to go against your religious beliefs (ie. a wedding cake) this is a different story. You are now forcing this person to be an accessory (provide a good or service) to what they believe is a sacrilegious event. That is violating their religious liberty.

This is bollocks. The owner's of businesses should be allowed to chose who they serve and who they do business with. If they don't want to serve someone for whatever reason; be it religion, race, gender or anything else, they should not have to do so. If it's a Federal or State service provider or any organization owned or run by the government then ok, by all means have 'anti discrimination' rules. Maybe you could also apply it to publicly listed companies too. But don't try and force it on an individual or a private company who they must do business with.

I wish these guys realized that "Religious freedom means you can do anything as long as it's a deeply held religious belief" means that for American Muslims, Jihad is A-OK! "It's not about murder! It's about the freedom to practice holy war!"

This all reminds me of an episode of FAMILY GUY where Peter Griffin and his wife ran a restaurant and Peter did not want to serve his friend Joe because he was handicapped and wanted to have his restaurant be "cool". Eventually that lead to a battle of epic proportions and this law may have had the same result. This law probably would have everyone turning into Peter Griffins pushing away all the Joe's in the world.

So do gay business owners get to deny service to those of the Christian, Muslims, or whatever other faith that discriminates against gay people, because it goes against their gayness? Yeah, didn't think so. This is just another form of "separate but equal" but in the form of religion and homosexuality. Not only is this bill unethical, it's also against the constitution in the fact that that it most definitely adheres to one religion.

People need to realise that the Bible was written by men, of that time. Colossians for example was written by Paul the Apostle. It was not God who wrote all parts of the Bible. I for example am I Christian but I dont believe all parts of Bible because some of it, maybe most, was written by men. Taking any religious scripture as the "truth" is dangerous.

Even after Christians read these quotes right out of the bible, they still deny them and say Christianity is loving and accepting. It makes me sick. Literally when I think about this I feel sick inside and out.
