After seeing this Kuhn Ricon Auto Safety Master Opener on QVC, I decided to try it for myself to see how it worked. As always, this is NOT sponsored.

The can/safety opener takes a little getting used to at first, but after that it’s nothing. I love it. The edges aren’t sharp and it allows you to reseal the can, if you don’t use everything at first.

I have had mine for about 7 years. Still works great to this day. My favorite thing is can opening, the lids aren't sharp AND you can reuse the lid if you don't want to use up all of the product at once!

HeyJames! Just for you and the others, this product from QVC is fantastic! Why? Get into your seventies or later (I’m 78) when your hand strength etc isn’t what it use to be! I bought it initially about ten years ago because of the ability to seemingly open a tin can and have no resulting sharp metal edges or debris to fall into your food…I have since bought one for everyone I know just to give them that safety factor…plus have you ever looked at the resulting gunk that builds near the gear on the outdated kind? And It will no longer cut your finger lifting the lid off the can…I also can no longer use a pull ring on a can without its help! Thanks though, I actually had forgotten about the jar lid lifter…sometimes the tap on the side of the lid with the back of a knife or running it under hot water will not work!

I gave my mom a similar opener for Christmas last year. She has been having a hard time opening jars lately, so I thought she would like it. It's also a Khun Rikon product, nearly identical, but instead of the safety can opener, it has a different kind of jar opener that would work on that larger lid you showed. You clamp it on and twist. It also has an extra hole in the handle to twist off hot sauce caps. Mom already had a safety can opener, so this model was perfect for her. All the features work great. One nice thing about ordering from QVC or HSN is that they often have lots of extra colors to choose from. The opener I gave Mom is a pretty tangerine color.

I've had mine for a number of years ,and it's never failed me. One of the few kitchen tools that are well made, comfortable to hold. It is bulky so it does take a bit of space in your kitchen drawer, but that's just a minor complaint, and not even really a complaint, just an FYI. They come in a dozen colors, but color for me isn't important in a kitchen tool, what's important is that it works as advertised and this certainly does.

It’s still a staple in my drawer and gets the job/s done fairly easily and quickly. Mine’s a sky blue color, my mom’s is red but I haven’t seen the other colors. When I saw this was what you were reviewing, I knew it’d be cake for ya lol.

The jar-opener seems to be the best part to me. Sometimes jars are ridiculously difficult to open, and that seems like, in the cases with a standard lid (which is almost every case), it would work very well every time. I can use a simple pull tab with just a spoon to help me, if my nails are too short at the time, so that seems like the least necessary part to me. The twist top soda-bottle opener seems excellent for someone who drinks soda (not me), because soda has to be closed super tight to hold in the carbonation; so it's good to be prepared to open it after; if I were a soda drinker, that might be my favorite part. High quality can opener too.
@DrSlipstream
@DrSlipstream 11 месяцев назад
If you want a method to test out these jar openers on tough jars, try filling a jar to the brim with ice and water, closing the lid on it, and leaving it until the ice melts. As the ice melts it'll create a strong vacuum in the jar that really locks the lid on. Also saves on potential wasted food (though I'm sure you eat everything you open).

I've had this thing for many years and use it almost daily. I have a permanently injured hand so I've had to resort to an electric can opener, but the other features are great. I especially like the pull tab opener. This gadget is virtually indestructible and well worth the price.
@Cinderkin

I have the older and if you can believe even bulkier version of this. Honestly, I prefer just having the can opener section and can pull feature. I've had the old one for over a decade, and this seems like a great updated version. Edit: went to buy one and saw they actually have a model that's just the can opener and lid puller. Awesome!
@ottopartz1
@ottopartz1 11 месяцев назад
I kinda like that it's so big and bulky. My mom has the arthritis and her vision is not the best, she currently has 3 of the swingline openers all in red so she can always find one when needed. I'm definitely going to get her one of these and hopefully she will be able to keep track of it because of its size.

I saw the picture and commented immediately. I've had a can opener exactly like this for about 11 years. I never had a problem. I have the really old style can opener too which I use mostly for tuna cans and cans of tomato paste. Cooks will understand the reason to have two. You cannot squeeze out the tuna over the sink with a new "fancy" opener like this. The lid doesn't go in to the can.
@melaneymattson3733
@melaneymattson3733 11 месяцев назад
Exactly, I have the regular kind for tuna so I can push the liquid out. And also for the tomato paste can where you open both ends and push through the can with one lid to get all the paste out!!

I have a plastic insert to squeeze the tuna juice but I've also had the same style canopener for years. I use the old pointed punch on the bottem with the non screw to open bottle opener. But when I moved into this house it had a wall mounted bottle opener that's probably older than me at 54.
@ItsJustLisa
@ItsJustLisa 11 месяцев назад
@@Rareplymouth, that “can colander” is probably more sanitary too for draining stuff like tuna.
@Rareplymouth
@Rareplymouth 11 месяцев назад
@@ItsJustLisa I agree but the lid is more convenient however multiple can openers just gives me an extra one to try to find 😆 I have enough trouble finding my head and it's attached. When I was young I had lofty goals. My new goals are finding scissor or a can opener and not to step on a cat. My kids are grown so I don't have to worry about one of them melting the can opener to the top of the toaster oven. Well I don't have a toaster oven anymore either. And they can snap the hinges off the oven door using it as a step stool. Ty "can colander" it had to have a name. The blue one that comes apart for large and small cans.
@DanielleWhite
@DanielleWhite 11 месяцев назад
I've had one for about a decade. For me it's an accessibility tool because of wrist issues. I have a separate tool for bottle and jar lids because the cap wrench part is limited: in addition to what you found with the water bottle it also can't engage screw caps that lack the fine valleys and ridges; the old style where they're each about 1/8" wide won't work

I have a different (older) version of this same Kuhn Rikon can opener. The handle is made of brushed metal and looks quite high end, but it doesn't have the bottle opener system. Mine has the same exact can opener assembly system as the Kuhn Rikon you got from QVC. I've been using this can opener for years and it is by far my favorite AND go-to can opener for just about every can, even those that get dented. The lid lifter also works perfectly. It's great too because you can use the top as a temporary lid for the can. As for pull ring cans, I prefer just cut open pull ring top cans with the can opener, too. I thought it might get stuck on the ring, but it never does. It also avoids that sharp edge and that lip from the pull ring. For example, soup cans sometimes have pull rings. The lip keeps you from getting everything out of the can and it cuts up your spatula. To avoid that, I cut the cans open instead with the Kuhn Rikon. Oh, and if you accidentally pull the ring to open the can, you can still cut open the remaining already opened can with the can opener, which will be just leave a metal ring. I sometimes forget and realize after I try to get the soup out against the lip... which never works well.

A couple of years ago I got a multipack of Jar Keys so I could give one to both of my grandparents since they would always have a pantry worth of jars to get opened any time someone else came over, they use them all the time. I think they're a little bit more versatile than the jar opener on this gadget, but having that option is ABSOLUTELY going to be a game changer for anyone that has a hard time opening jars normally. The twist-top opener seems pretty lackluster, though. If it had a bit more range of cap sizes (and bottle shapes), it might not be too bad, although it loses a lot of potential torque due to the can opener on the other side. A good twist-top opener gadget would have a longer handle to help people that have a hard time opening those bottles.

I have a similar 6 in 1 opener from cobble creek I got for $2.99 at a local retailer I absolutely love that only has stores in New England area but I believe is branching out. Ocean state job lot. Every location has different finds.

Man I used to have one of those a long time ago your last me for a while then lost it when I moved. I'm so glad I found your video to buy the proper 1in knocking knockoff version again.

Man, I feel you with the Vienna Sausages. I loved them when I was real young, but the thought of eating one now makes me gag. Cool gadget.

Have one & find it very useful, also have the Rikon tin opener with a lever that operates it.

I've been using the kind of opener that just pokes holes in the can and makes a jagged edge, this thing looks good
