I mean if you have a laser printer you can keep the OEM cartridges and just buy bulk toner and a funnel to refill the cartridges it's messy but possible. It's a lot harder to do with ink unless you buy Epson's system and even then they engineered the cartridges to only fit the specific nozzle that's on the squeeze bottles they use for their bottles of ink.

I recently sold my printer and bought a really old one on E-bay. No bullshit apps, services, or updates. Just a printer and I'll need to buy toner every-so-often. Wanted to break free of the current printer scam once and for all.

Go with a refillable tank option or refill cartridges with a syringe, would love a large format printer with refillable tanks but don't have the $20k to spare currently but brand loyalty isn't crucial with that option.

@@LyricTheMusicFox Yeah, there are so many stupid exceptions it's kinda hilarious that this "anti deceptive marketing" thing they put out is even written in the first place. Because one of the exceptions goes along the lines of "If you don't have the machines for a smaller package but don't want to fill the old package completely anymore, you can just add a blocker" which pretty much requires another machine anyway, so why not get one for the smaller packs?

I hope so. My grandpatents wete farmers. My dad was a mechanic before joining the USAF and becoming a pilot. When they told him he couldn't repair the combine used on the family farm a Deere, of course, he went nuts. They had to move the combine fr9m the farm, on a tractor trailor, to the dealer in Albany. A 6 hour trip, to do a 65$ repair that he could have done in the barn in 30 minutes. The International rhey used to have was completely torn down and rebuilt numerous times duriñg the 45 years they owned and used it. It makes no sense. The transportation isn't covered by manufacturers warrenty, and in this new world, John Deere can and will repo the machinery if the warranty is voided. You see, the problem is that manufacturers in many cases now think the way the goblins in Harry Potter do that because they made it, it is only on loan to you or being rented by you. Its insane.

I don't obey tyrannical laws anyway. Haven't been caught yet.

for livestreams on my big tv = awesome. can't fault it. for watching shorts on my big tv = can't fault it. everything else on my tv on youtube = ADS everytime there's a breath, momentary pause, gets to a good point, halfway through a sentence/just as the opening credits roll. all my laptops = adblocking in some form. also need to work out how to adblock on a firestick... but yeah, I'm sick of seeing ads for hair dye, holidays and brazilian bum cream.

rossman also laid into them hard about issues specific to the premium subscription. for example, always-online DRM [essentially] for the videos you downloaded. yeh, don't fucking think so! nothing excuses their behavior, they're just greedy assholes. it's not like creators get that much money from ads, either. youtube pockets the lion's share and only exceptionally large channels with major influence make near enough to sustain themselves. and there's the [de]monetization policy, too... hence why everyone and their dog has a sponsored segment in every video. usually for the current crappy mobile game or a lootbox subscription, or whatever else. only ever seen a few that remotely seem interesting or useful.

I remember when you only got an ad once every 2 or 3 videos. They're on almost every video nowadays, typically with at least 2. I had 3 unskippable ads in a row once. I was peeved.

Thankfully for me, RU-vid actuallu gave me an ad for an actually really good ad blocker extention. Last ad I have seen on RU-vid... On my chromebook at least

If renting a car from Hertz or something like that doesn't count as ownership, then how does stealing their cars count as theft? If buying a concert ticket doesn't count as ownership, how does breaking into the concert and watching it for free count as trespassing?

@@me-myself-i787 1] you physically removed the car from its location and thus transferred ownership of it to yourself without consent of its actual owner. that's theft. 2] you physically entered the venue without express permission to do so, you're trespassing just on the grounds of you're not supposed to be on the premises in the first place. that holds true regardless of there being a concert to sneak-into for free. if you get so far as to actually seat yourself, you've additionally [potentially] robbed someone who did buy a ticket of a place to sit. piracy is *not* theft... no matter how many copies you make, the original persists in its original form, in possession by its original owner. and the idea that our art & culture should be owned is bullshit, anyways. the concept of "intellectual property" is itself, wholly immoral and unnatural. our creative culture once did, and always should; belong to everyone and no one. and as for the "poor starving artists" , the multi-billion dollar media/entertainment empires [like disney] are doing that, not pirates.

I only really play free to play video games, but regarding digital platforms, you're generally just buying the right to use said thing on said platform under that platform's terms and using the service is agreeing to those terms. When you buy digital, you don't have a copy of the thing, you have a license to use the thing under whatever terms you agreed to when you signed up for the service. And they generally make you agree to the policy updates. Terms and services are contracts and this is something digital platforms have covered.

To tack on since I can't edit my above comment (thanks youtube), while I play a few gacha games myself, none of them drew me in because of promises of "hot babes" or fake campaigns. They were either downloaded because a friend recommended it, or the ads featured interesting story or gameplay and I wanted to know more and then discovered that I love it so kept playing. Trust me, showcasing real gameplay or story elements or a cool teaser WILL draw people in more, goodness knows it works on me better than anything with some jock lusting after women ever could

That doesn't really make sense. Wouldn't any honest store strive to reduce packaging and allow more items to be stocked on their shelves, which also lower transportation costs in the same fashion? You can argue about the necessity for over-packaging of fragile items, but the examples we see in these posts are basic food items and medicine with external paper packages that makes the redundant package space serve no other purpose than for shelf aesthetics. And that's not only dumb, but can be seen as misleading and, in increasingly common cases, false advertising if the packaging is intentionally designed to trick you into believing you get more than what there actually is. And if the latter is true while they charge you the same or a higher price compared to the amount they _used_ to sell, then that's definitely a scam (or "shrinkflation" if you will). I just think that if they play by the logic you describe, they're just testing the waters on what they can get away with and how long to see if they can pull off an actual shrinkflation scheme without people noticing. We shouldn't be as gullible as to believe they'll just stop at "We order excessively packaged items because we have an obsession with shelfing symmetry".

@@netts2315 - In the case of that one it looks like a chargeback occurred, hence them getting caught, as the person said that you replied to. NEVER initiate a chargeback on anything you purchased through any type of game because the moment you do you can either get frozen out, such as the OP did, or they ban you from the game. However what could also have happened with OP is that they were using someone else's card to make the purchases, such as their parents for example, the parent has come across the unknown charge on their account and immediately called the bank to notify them that they didnt make such a charge. Also, initiating a chargeback after receiving something can also land you in major hotwater if they choose to notify law enforcement because doing such is also classed as fraud.

I got it for the ability to play content with my screen off, the removal of ads is also a nice feature. I do wonder about whether the creators get any income from views from folks with premium though

Renault's battery rental subscription for it's older ev's came pretty close. You would buy the car, but rent the battery for like $80 a month. If you didn't pay up they could call your car's battery and remotely disable it the next time you tried to turn it on. Oh, and you couldn't just buy a "rental" version and swap batteries, as it was hardwired to only work with the rental batteries. Basically the entire car was DRM'ed

Sadly most people will just adapt. I'm pissed about smart TVs displaying shitloads of ads but nobody does anything, and so corporations walk all over us consumers.

They responded already they only delete account with no purchases on them. They are just deleting old free to play account because your not supposed to keep customer data for more then is necessary. If they don't have purchases and aren't using the tool it isn't necessary to keep their data so Ubisoft is deleting it.
