Nice I’m so glad! Now to the alcohol, it can be an issue cause if a minor drinks then the venue or hosts can be legally in trouble if they get in trouble (like drinking and driving). However her behavior makes it clear she’s just a bitch, the way she was so demanding over the dress she didn’t pay a dime for and then refused to bring him. My wife and I were just discussing this type of behavior a few days ago. She was planning a getaway with some friends but it fell apart when one member of the group started pushing a more affluent member to pay extra. This in turn reminded us of another former friend who had tried something similar to my wife. This friend had thought it would be fun to organize a psychic to come to her home and invite all of her friends to have their fortunes done. At the end, she gave my wife the bill because we were 'wealthy'. We aren't rich and my wife doesn't even believe in psychics. Thankfully, we haven't seen her again.

There is update to last story, I will copy here: I talked to my son about the suggestions you guys gave me and he agreed to sell the dress at market price. He calculated the price of everything and the value was quite high. We sent the proposal to my sister and she hated it. She said she couldn't afford it because it was too expensive and it should be a gift because "she is family". I responded by saying that it was too easy to say she was family to get a free dress, but not enough to include my son. She cried on the call and begged me not to ruin her day, but I didn't call because that to me was bullshit. At no point did she offer to just let my son go or apologize for it. And for anyone who said that maybe she's homophobic, I'm not sure, but I think who could be influencing her is her fiancé who is a Christian and has never been close to my son. However, I don't care if he's doing it or not. If she wants to exclude my son from this event then she will also be cutting ties with me.

Another update: Sorry for the delay, but it's been a busy week. Many family members skipped my sister's wedding and decided to have a party at a cousin's house instead of attending the wedding. My sister is obviously very upset and has cut us all off her social media. She got another dress to get married, but everyone thought it was cheap compared to what she was going to wear. And I would also like to inform you that someone already bought the dress that my son made, it was for a good price and that will help him cover his college costs. There's not much to say, but I'd just like to make this final point to let you guys know.

I think that last story needs a higher score. That's an unbelievable amount of work that woman threw upon a minor. I read the original story and Dabney cut some stuff out, that was a VERY expensive dress. Incredible materials and intricate design, they went all out. This dress would have been worth THOUSANDS. Not to mention the man hours lost in the creation of it. 50 drawings is insane and I personally would have refused at that point. No, she gets at least, AT LEAST, a 4/5 score. @@wmdkitty The sister does indeed have the right not to invite him, but that decision also rightfully comes with negative consequences for her considering this teen literally made her dress for her and its blatantly obvious she just wanted to take advantage of him for a free dress. She was incredibly ungrateful and cruel, and her rule also meant he was the only family member excluded from the wedding since he was the only minor in the family. Her alcohol excuse doesn't hold water considering most dine in restaurants sell alcohol and don't exclude kids. In most situations, I side with people who don't want kids at their wedding, this situation is different because this witch didn't even bother to mention the childfree rule to them and still wanted this teen to do this massive wedding related favor for her, the dad had to directly ask her last minute before she even told them. She wasn't the least bit sorry either, didn't change her mind, and its obvious she knew what she was doing for months; instead she put on the crocodile tears and tried to guilt trip them into giving her the dress anyways. She was probably hoping that by the time her family learned about her childfree rule, the dress would already be in her possession and they wouldn't be able to do s*** about it.

I doubt the step mom sees anything wrong with ‘just asking the eldest to watch the young ones’ but even if they were well-behaved - no. If OP chooses to, good on her. I respect that. Yup. And speaking for myself, in a similar situation I'd probably be a lot happier offering to help out every now and then if there weren't this underlying feeling that I'm "giving the mouse a cookie," so to speak. She's already been thrown into a living situation that she didn't have any say over -- after the trauma of a bereavement, no less -- and now she's got someone trying to encroach on her life and personal space even more. If it were me I would need to feel totally secure in my ability to set boundaries and have my own space before I could stop feeling defensive about maintaining some semblance of control in my life and could start feeling comfortable giving and helping out. But instead she apparently doesn't even have a lock to keep her step-siblings out of her room when she's not there. The second-hand stress I'm getting from that situation is palpable.

Edit: Quick one, there was an update on the story. OP felt bad, his friend unblocked him after asking around, and the two talked about the whole incident. Re: Surprise Wedding: I had something similar happen to me. I received an invite to a block party and cookout from my mom and her long-term boyfriend. I was also tasked with driving several hours away to pick up my cousin for this block party. I have complex PTSD, which can make driving very difficult. It was undiagnosed at the time. My aunt on my dad's side decided to accompany me, because we were going to an unfamiliar location quite far away to try and meet up with my cousin and bring her back. My car decided, in the middle of this scary city, to suddenly start blowing the horn and not stop. This made me quite popular with all of the other drivers, and my mental state got to such a point I had to pull over, was physically ill, and my aunt had to take over driving. On top of that, my cousin told us the wrong place to meet up, and then we wound up driving all over town trying to find her. I should also mention she brought her baby with her, who was extremely colicky and would not stop shrieking at the top of her lungs. I'm not mad at the baby, I just mentioned this to illustrate how much noise and anger and rage was all around me at that point. Oh, not to mention my cell phone was blowing up with angry calls and texts about where I was. Needless to say, it was unpleasant. We finally pulled up in front of my house (I was renting across from my mom's place at the time) and my aunt and cousin went across the street while I tried to get my car to shut up. Someone came running out and screaming at me to hurry the f up, that "they got married." Huh? Who? What? Married? I was understandably confused, but it turns out that my mom and stepdad decided to get married and used this block party as a cover. And then when I was late and having car trouble, while on an errand that THEY sent me on, decided to just get married without me. And then they were mad at me for not being there or dressed for a wedding, and when I explained I didn't know that they were getting married, that the invite was just for a cookout and block party, they said that the line about "joining them for this special occasion" should have been enough for me to know it was a wedding. I would also like to note that in the 10 or more years that we lived in that town, no one ever had a block party, so something like that WAS considered a special occasion. I've never forgotten or forgiven them. I remained in contact (in fact, I now live with my mom, first stepdad passed away), and I still love them, but this was and still is something that hurts me deeply. You can't plan a surprise occasion, not explain what the occasion is to anyone, and then somehow expect them to behave and dress the exact way you want them to for said occasion. Also, surprise parties are a thing. Surprise weddings are not. And for good reason.

Second story: there was an update- the daughter ended up talking to her coach since her coach was already worried about her. It turns out that the daughter lost 40 pounds in 6 months when she was trying to gain weight. The coach had her talk to the guidance counselor and they told the dad. They also had her go to the doctor and a therapist, it was determined that the weight loss was from stress. She was extremely underweight and made her doctor very worried for her overall health. Now Josie is no longer able to force chores/babysitting on the daughter also has a lock on her door for privacy. Josie also is not allowed to enter the daughters room without permission. Josie is refusing to talk to the daughter claiming she is over reacting.

Kind of what I thought. Or, if she wants to be a little sneakier and less confrontational about it, she could present her stepmother -- with her father present -- a list of chores she thinks is reasonable for her to do and asking if she's missed anything. Now it looks like she's committing to be helpful, but she's got on paper everything she's required to do, and her stepmother can't object without admitting in front of the dad that she's trying to make her do more.

OP's dad didn’t believe her at first so OP had to do what was necessary to get him to believe her Third Story, NTA: How did OP take things to far?! SIL randomly sprung on OP the bill for the dinner, OP called her exactly what she is, and OP paid for her food and left. Why should OP have to apologize to "keep the peace" when OP was basically almost forced to a "wedding gift" that she doesn’t want to pay. Fourth Story, NTA: OP cosplayed as a fictional character because his friend said there was no specific theme. Then no one bothered to tell him that he showed up to the ACTUAL wedding, and when OP asked if he should change or not the husband said it was fine. This all sounds like horrible communication on their part, not OP's part. OP needs to find a better friend than this Fifth Story, NTA: So basically OP's sister used her nephew for a free dress (she didn’t pay for anything, OP did). It turns out that all this time, the groom actually hated OP and was trying to find a way to get his wife to end her friendship with OP. Why? Yeah, it's similar to the story about OP hating her husband's female friend just because she used to married to him and remained friends with him, as if a guy and a girl can never be just friends at all. And so, he set up his wedding and the costume party to get OP to wear a wedding dress. This is why the groom said it's fine for OP to keep on wearing the dress. As a disabled woman it actually angers me seeing Karen’s like this on public transport. The spots at the front of the bus are specifically reserved for us, the disabled. I’ve had folk try and get my to move in the past but I’m always extremely rude and loud “Are you asking me to move from the disabled seat when you’re able bodied?! That’s RUDE” But LOUD, loud enough for the whole bus to hear so they can be rightfully shamed for their behaviour. Only had it happen a few times, the only other times I’ve had Karens try (and fail) to harass me about disabled seating is because apparently I’m “too young to be disabled”, “you don’t look disabled” or I’m “faking it”. They get the same loud attitude, I’ll ask them “are you demanding I prove my disability because you want seating for the disabled?” Or “but you don’t look disabled, you just said that to me and I have a walking cane, so what’s your excuse lady?!?” or simply “stop harassing me for being disabled and using disabled seating, leave me alone” It’s the only way these Karen’s learn, they have to be shamed so they remember that experience forever so they never repeat that behaviour. Like who TF demands a disabled man “just move” when he’s wheelchair bound, where moving is difficult AF for him, all because “I don’t wanna stand on the bus”. Lady, we would love to be so mobile that standing on the bus was an option, my body is entirely crippled and I rely heavily on a walking cane, I’d love to be able to stand on the bus without feeling like I was gunna collapse, but she’s complaining anyway because “i’M a MotHeR”. I talked to my son about the suggestions you guys gave me and he agreed to sell the dress at market price. Also as someone who regularly rides the bus usually the parents will let the child sit and stand over them, she was just trying to get an extra seat. You know this is one of those stories where the OP knows they're an a hole but wants to find at least one person that agrees to justify their actions.

In one of the stories OP was "invited" to a restaurant, which indicates that person who is "invited" isn't expected to pay for the meal if not informed beforehand. So leaving and paying your portion of the bill is generous in my opinion.

Dude, there is ZERO water held for inviting her sister in law to foot the bill. I don't care if OP's sister in law was royalty. Disrespect like that deserves an emphatic eff you with no chill. Special treatment for having a party ends the moment the disrespect begins. Full stop

Story 1: Yes, mom, you are the bad guy. Story 2: I wish I had I hiding a spot like that when I was at my parents' house. Story 3: With a sister in law like that who needs enemies. Story 4: Not the bad you asked for theme to wear also you didn't know that it was the wedding you thought it was just a costume party.

At the title of the last story, I thought the son was like 15 at best and that it was a general child-free wedding. But no, he'd be the only minor there at 17 and it sounds like he's already more of an adult than the bride, so he can avoid alcohol.

1. Funny that she says "for my child" but in the story it changes to "me and my child". Think the guy would have happily let the daughter sit on the second place (as i understand he used 1 of 2 places). It's not that far fetched to let your kid sit and watch him/her from the isle

For the last story: if I was the parent in the situation, I would’ve told the bride that if she would not invite my son to her wedding then she would have to pay for the dress that he slaved over for months to make her. I’m not quite sure and pricing but I’m pretty sure that cheaper and wedding dresses can cost up to like $20,000.

For the last story, you’re being way too kind with the rating. Lol. The kid literally made you the dress…the least he deserves is a dang invitation to the wedding. The sister gets an easy 2/5 buttholes.

“We are having alcohol so no minors are allowed at the wedding” that is LITERALLY the stupidest excuse I’ve ever heard. A lot of weddings have alcohol and still have kids in attendance, also most restaurants serve alcohol, should kids be banned from all restaurants? Like, yeah she didn’t have to have an excuse, it’s her wedding her decision, but if your gonna give an excuse at least make it a good one.

First Story: Can I just say the major AH is the government? Brazil has busses that has special spaces for wheelchair users, for this exact reason. Not just wheelchair users, but also spaces for blind people.

Many countries (including US and UK) have spaces for whel chair users. In the US the chairs just fold up so if there isn't a wheelchair user on board the space can still be used by others.

1st story: You can ask a person to move, but they can also refuse. 2nd story: Not gonna lie, that was kind of clever and hilarious. Update for the 2nd wedding dress story: The son took suggestions from Reddit and is selling the dress at market value, which is quite high. OP's sister got mad and refused to buy it. The sister told OP the son should give her the dress because she's family. OP pointed out that she wants a free dress because she's family but won't invite her nephew to her wedding for the same reason.

It's called priority seating for a reason. Op in a story 1 needs to either not ride public transport, or deal with the FACT that no body cares about her being inconvenienced.

I am sitting in a wheelchair for over 8 months now since the time of writing this comment. Thankfully I am getting so much better that I am getting a walker (don't know if that's what you call it in englisch... you know the thingy elder women use) so I can train walking at home after being a parablebic for such a long time. Everytime someone says that sitting in a wheelchair has so many positive aspects and that they would gladly sit the whole day, I just ask them one thing. "Ok so do you wanna trade my condition and wheelchair for your healthy legs?" and then you can just hear the rusty cogs starting to move and squeek in their heads. Standing and walking is such a nice feeling and it makes me feel alive again, so yeah that person would really love to be able to walk again. Some would even kill just to be able to move a muscle. Edit: If you have questions about anything considering how it is to be parablebic or something like feel free to ask. I will gladly answer any question.

Story 3: here's what I think: I think the husband thought it was fine, the wife was extremely upset, and the husband is already whipped so he acted outraged after the fact. He's a coward, she's a Karen, you're better off without them.

Apparently there's an update and the husband lied about the dress being ok, then lied to his wife about giving permission. And that's not the only thing he's been lying about. Marriage might not last as long as the Corpse Bride movie at this rate.
