In 1985 Rusty Preisendorfer started his own shaping line called Rusty using a large R with a dot as his logo. This was referred to simply as the ‘R Dot’. A symbol which did not take long to move onto apparel as the brand became more established and recognized in the world of surfing.
This history of Rusty Preisendorfer, the ‘R Dot’ and the evolution of Rusty as a brand is documented in the mini series ‘R....and everything else’. Today we are proud to release part one of the series. We go back to the beginning, where it all started, 1985. Rusty narrates the creative process behind the iconic R Dot symbol, how he started shaping boards and the fear of branching out on his own.

What an awesome human being. I spent many hours hanging out in his factory trying to learn from the Best. Rusty P. had some of the best shapers working with him (especially the one from Texas 👍) He is still my favorite shaper of all time even though I learned the art of board building myself.Many thanks. Bring on part 2 my man.👍👍🤙

A vida que eu queria, cheguei a trabalhar no mundo do surf,,por anos, mas ,não tinha muito reconhecimento, respeito, achei melhor abandonar, mas valeu de muita experiência, hj estou com 5.9 aposentado, mas continuo a trabalhar, mas o surf não sai da minha essência da minha alma, já surfei muito, mas hj me encontro , só vendo a evolução ,parabéns a quem continuou, neste rama, digno de toda honra, se não fosse vcs o surf não teria ído a tão longe,,apenas dei o início eu e muitos guerreiros, que hj nem existem mais, agora surf na alma, hj sou surfista da alma, pra quem entende o surf ,o surf vem da alma, jeito de viver e pensar,,e praticar, por mais que não esteja praticando,,,obrigado por ler meu, instinto do surf, SURF NA VEIA...

pretty cool memories . I think I remember :) glassing a "Music" or two in my backyard prior to working at Canyon. Canyon is a "story" to be told if there ever was one from the 80s . I had a thriving surfboard factory in my parents back yard in the 70s... The Good ol Surfin Daze ... the surfing business and culture has changed alot since then and I'm not so certain for the better. I was lucky to grow up with uncrowded Indian summer days and bitter cold off shore winter days at Blacks in the 70s ( it was a kinda mysto semi secret spot in the 70s)
