0:58 it was actually made to be able to sustain such damage, by continuing to pump air into the aircraft, even after inflation. It did have some reliability issues, but overall it was functional. What put the nail in the coffin was actually the issue of finding enough space to take of.

Emkay, inflatable plane was surprisingly safe. That’s not rubber or anything weak that’s air mat. The main concept was to drop 100s of them behind enemy lines for downed military pilots to fly them selves back into friendly lines. While a few of them did end up crashing in testing, they ultimately failed because the concept itself was stupid.

4:25 Actually, this is probably an antique plate, with the warning added on after. But the thermal conductivity of metals is way higher than that of wood (like 100 x or sth.) which is why metal feels hotter to touch because the heat gets transferred to your skin much faster. I'm pretty sure the Inflatoplane was something for the military, from what I remember was made for stranded pilots that got shot down in enemy territory, small enough to be dropped from a pod on a plane or pushed out the back of a cargo plane in a very compact way. I wish I'd gotten some pics of the "renovations" to the municipal animal shelter I worked at. I was really curious who the escaped mental patient was that they hired as the architect. They put a water spigot for a hose right next to the power outlet. All the doors opened the wrong way. All the floor drains were the highest point, everything sloped down towards the walls. All the sinks were supposed to be wheelchair accessible, even the ones in the employees only areas, and you couldn't fit a watering can under the faucet for filling up the water bowls in all the individual cages. The water that came out of the afore-mentioned wall spigots was so hot it would set off the smoke detectors. IDK who they get to design animal shelters, but it's obviously people that have never had to clean up after animals housed in enclosed spaces at large volumes. The best was the new cat kennels had a separate little cubby for the litterbox, but they built them so deep no one could reach all the way into them. So if kitty had Hershey squirts all the way against the back wall, there was no way to reach it to clean it. You couldn't hose it out because they were constructed like cabinets; laminated particle board. They claim the stainless steel cages were too "industrial" looking. Yeah, but housing a cat in a kitchen cabinet is REALLY unsanitary!

5:54 Ladder boards are fairly standard practice, even on scaffolding. A standard 2x6 pine board can hold around 500 pounds without cracking, and tripling them up triples the weight distribution, strengthening the boards and increasing the weight limit. Source: I worked in a factory for five years where the owner hides the safety harnesses for building industrial racking so we had to either ride forklift forks up or climb the racking like monkeys. Most of my crew fell through at least once, one of the guys crashing through three levels of metal grates and slamming into the cement, and another guy falling off the side and catching his ankle in a crevice and wrenching it. But don't worry! The owner graced us with his presence more than once in his flashy new Bentley! He hid in his office most of the time behind three keycard locked doors because most of his emploeyyes are felons. With a tub of Vaseline and porn that he left out for the cleaning lady to find.

0:58 Inflato planes acutally had the ability to constantly keep themselves inflated with a compressor from the motor. These were before helicopters came into big fashion, so they would be low level air dropped near down pilots. the pilots would then unroll them, start the engine which would inflate them, take off, and fly back to friendly lines, where they would be "salvaged" for parts. GA-468 was a single-seater. It took about five minutes to inflate to about 25 psi, and was a single seater, with a speed of about 70 mph and range of 390 miles. GA-466 was the two-seater version was larger, could get about 275 mile range, but kept the 70mph speed. The advent of rescue helicopters and small scout choppers that could land and pick up 2 downed crew, rendered the program obsolete.

10:44 That's pretty common on construction sites and building undergoing renovations when it is dangerous for anyone to go through the door. What's probably going on here is work on the steps outside. Don't want anyone walking through the door when there's a 5' drop on the other side because the new steps are still being built. Though I've seen this done on doors with a 30' drop immediately on the other side. It's enough of an obstruction that people aren't going to casually walk through it, but accessible enough that if there was a real emergency you'd be able to get the door open and take your chances with whatever was on the other side.

When I was in elementary school we had an asphalt playground and the only “toy” was metal soccer goal posts. I don’t recall seeing at least one kid with a broken arm or leg the whole 7 years I was there. (I went to kindergarten there, too.)
