This formula works well! A good basic beat, then you add ringing guitar 🎸 notes with a few chords and a pensive vocal singing about horses or something and there you have it! Ages of you!
Great song. It is an outtake from the Chronic Town EP and Mitch Easter thought it didn't fit with the other tracks. Finally got it's proper due on the B-sides LP Dead Letter Office.
this is like the sister song to sitting still. and both are awesome. the way peter's guitar kinda just rambles in between the verses and then kind bops around like a yoyo in the chorus. it really didn't matter what the lyrics were... obviously.
Yes, There is the faster version out take from Chronic Town, This version, an out take from Murmur. The Wendell Gee B Side that ended up on Dead Letter office and the Live for Life, Live in studio version, any others?
I'm pretty sure this the same version which made it onto Dead Letter Office, with the backing vocals added later along with a clearer sound. I never imagined Ages Of You as a Murmur song but after hearing this with the subdued production it makes sense. This is one of my favourite R.E.M. tracks by the way. Sounds so wistful.
