Nice job finding this one! From the REM Timeline: 'September Sang' is another new song, performed once & never performed again, similar in style to 'Pilgrimage'. This is a different song to the unknown song from 25 June 1982
Love me some R.E.M. and think they are easily in the top 10-15 of all-time greatest bands, but I think it's pretty obvious why this wasn't ever played again. LOL

Jk, but Stipe makes it clear that back then he was more interested in how words sounded than what they meant. Mills too. Not even they remember the lyrics. I'm convinced that sometimes they were not singing real words or sentences at all. Stuff like washull ahey.
