This is one of the most beautiful songs and it helped (and still helps) alot people through tough times. I've read that it prevented alot people from killing themselves and all that, for that alone this is a diamond of a song☝️ Also the video, how they are all alone in their cars and in the end they all go out and come together, they are not alone anymore
MRM, that haunting voice got to you too. I was feeling extra sad today because of a death in the family, and that just felt like I felt. Your face is your greatest story teller, and bless your little heart, that spot on your head must be awfully tuff
Bless you!!! This is one of my favorite songs ever. My Dad was a die-hard country only fan. When he was dying from cancer several years ago I played this song for him. He got up & started swaying to the music and told me to play it again. A very special moment. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
You did that reaction like a boss. Which is to say, you just watched and saved your comments for the end. And then you offered some great comments. Future reactors to this song: This is how you do it.
Michael Stipe has a very unique voice for sure. As soon as you hear it you know it’s him. Any era of REM, loud or quiet, upbeat or slow, it’s always his voice that carries the song beautifully.
This is one of the few songs that makes my entire body and soul cry. So sad, so beautiful, so hopeful..You do not listen to this song without tissues nearby or a friend or family member to hug
I lost a family member who I was very close to due to suicide. It's hard to explain but it is a death that's harder to get past. I still think of him all the time and wished he would have reached out or had made some different decisions. Dang you Gary I miss you.
The key to combating depression is helping others. MRM comes close when he says stop thinking about yourself. But like I say helping others is the key. A happy life is a life of service.
Singer Michael Stipe wrote this song as a deturant to suicide, and it apparently worked, because after this song was released, the suicide rate in America dropped, at least a little bit. Michael Stipe is a great person.
And I gotta apologize to you because I didn't listen to all your comments when I posted mine. This is a great example of how just hearing the song alone is great but with adding such a powerful video with additional captions...just about got choked up. As I was watching the people leave their vehicles it reminds me of how we need to avoid isolation and share our problems with others because yes sometime..everybody hurts.. sometime to the point that they want to end their life. But it doesn't have to be that way. I won't preach either but I was so impressed with you sharing how Jesus will share our burden if we just ask Him to...Hope it's obvious that I just loved your commentary. And of course not everyone wants to ask our God of Christianity for help but just start asking ONE person if you can share your hurt with them.
I FELT IT. I have heard this song so many, many times, but I never seen the video. The moment he said, "Hold on", I had chills go down my spine and looked over at you and you were scratching your head. I FELT THAT FEELING. Cool.
Late reaction. That bit gets me too. The big intake of breath and the releasing of tension in his shoulders. Letting go of all the burdens that hold us down. It's like a big sigh of relief:' It's ok. Everybody hurts. You are not alone'.
When we are hurting and in a deep dark place, it’s the best time to reach out and do something for another person. A hug, a smile, visit a care home and talk to the elderly or simply read the newspaper to someone with failing eyesight.
This song has saved my life so many times over the years. Thanks for sharing I sincerely hope it gives somebody else what they need to hold on to life just one more day til it doesn’t hurt so much. ✌️❤️🎶
Hey the program I use is filmora. You can diwload a free version that let's you do basic recording, editing, etc. That way you can play around with it first
Love this. Very moving. I suffer with depression but I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Friends and music are a great joy to me. I love every genre of music as it is the only thing that brings memories flooding back from all parts of your life. If you have chance it would be lovely if you could listen to Steve Balsamo singing Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar from Musicals in Ahoy Concert 2004. Simply spellbinding. Thank you for your downloads. Take care from the UK.
What can I say I've loved this song for decades and nobody can inspire hope quite like Michael Stipe. The power of the message of this song kicks in and the power of its message hits home when he sings for the first time on camera that her than it being him just walking about?
John Paul Jones from Led zeppelin did the string arrangements on this and a few of the songs on the album. and they really make the song especially at the end of the song where the melody line keeps rising.
Animals are great but they are not the same as humans dealing with our complexities. It's a unmistakable human dilemma which is direct evidence of what happened in the garden of eden. We desired this and so all of existence fell. I know there are people out there who hate me because I am white also. And hate me for being a Christian. And hate me for being a woman because the feminists are destroying that too now.
This song is so deep! For me, I went through a time of addiction....and when getting clean, those first 5 days of hell going through withdrawals....this song said it ALL! THE DAY IS LONG....AND THE NIGHT IS YOURS ALONE! I had never had such long days and the darkest, loneliest, longest nights of no sleep and constant spasms...throwing up....it WAS HELL! And this song got me through a couple of those nights. Just to know someone could sing words that spoke the truth of what you were going through made me feel less alone. No matter how many friends say they will stay with you through it....they sleep and you don’t...and it’s LONELY AND DARK! But then this songs says...But HOLD ON! HOLD ON! And gave me some hope to press on through. My request for you is to listen to and watch another video that to me explains addiction perfectly as well and that is “Its only life” by The Shins. “ we all spend a little while going down the rabbit hole” “Open up the parachute...something’s got to stop the free fall!” SO GOOD! What would we do without music that is so many times there for us when nothing and no one else can be?!
This song always reminds me that there are people who hurt worse than me. It taught me that the best way to deal with my own pain is to help someone else through theirs.
How is this song sad? Its about hanging on even when everything feels like its going wrong because everyone goes through that. This is a uplifting song. Tells you to hang on.
If you can find it watch Take It To The Limit by the Eagles with Randy Meisner singing it in 1977. Randy hated doing the song due to the extremely high note at the end. But Glenn Frey and Don Henley would bully him into singing it and Randy was so nervous. He keeps his eyes closed throughout and licking his lips, which is a sign of stress. But he kills it. But he left soon after.
Yes!!! Yes!!! Yes!!! Please do a reaction to ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UJ2_HttFkkc.html MRM, you will absolutely LOVE Randy Meisner's voice in Take It To The Limit. The Eagles overall had awesome harmonies. Seven Bridges Road is perfect example. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hufU6MIS2vw.html Sadly, neither of these videos will be here for long. RU-vid is always pulling Eagles videos. :(
Like in the movie: G.I. Jane: I never seen a wild thing feel sorry for itself. A bird will fall frozen dead from bough without ever having felt sorry for itself. This is a quote from D.H Lawrence.
"As a man thinketh, so is he." We have the ability to curse or create by the power of our tongue. My pastor used to tell me that we are a total of our talking yesterday and that if I desired a better tomorrow, to change my faith confession TODAY. He also expressed the importance of getting "a check up from the neck up" and if any "stinkin' thinkin'" was found there, to replace it with what the Word says about us. 😊
This is sad but message of hope also . You can hear how the music changes at the end to uplift ....hold on. .hold on ...love this song. I listen to it whenever I despair.
As a person that suffers from depression and has tried to commit suicide. This song has saved me when I go through my bouts of depression. It tells me that I'm not alone and God is always with me.
First I wanna say that I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL, so please don't think I'm hatin by saying the following 🤗 If you've ever seen pictures/videos of pets when their owners die, then you know they do get depressed! The ones who lay on graves or wait for them to come home everyday & also their bonded mates/friends who they try to move or wakeup, it's absolutely HEARTBREAKING!!! They say to let them spend at least an hour with the body for them to understand 😭 Now there's a BIG difference between feeling nervous or down sometimes & having clinical anxiety or depression! Was called "shy" for almost 30 years, I'd pray for God to let me die so I wouldn't have to talk aloud in school, that's not shyness 😔 I'm so GRATEFUL for the help that's available nowadays, my meds help reconnect the crossed "wires" in my brain, & they let me get through tough times without falling apart! God created Doctors & Scientists, He gave them the knowledge to discover things to help us, so I say let them if they can cuz those who go untreated are miserable. I share my experiences with others in hopes it may encourage them to seek help in whatever form they choose cuz different things work for different people. I believe God made me this way TO help others, to offer advice or just a shoulder to cry on, & I THANK Him for that!!!
This is a song not of sadness, but of salvation. Your not alone. Your not the only one. Someone is going through everything right now and your not alone.
Thank you, Ty. I, too, have found God is the answer. The Bible states God is evident in the world around us. He is with you always. I watched this video on MTV when it was first released. The group may not realize they have translated the words of the Bible. "Ear not, for I am with you always". How tragic when a person gives up on life! Thank you for being open and honest about your belief.
@@OffRoad-jh1do Hey man.. thank you! I hope the same for you. My mom has had sum health scares lately so been a bit caught up. I appreciate that very very much! Looking forward to responding to your question earlier about me, guitar, you, guitar.. I have suggestions for u. Will be in touch soon. 💖
I like how you spread the word of God without trying to pound it into our brains like some religious folks do, you just say "this is how I believe, if you don't believe as I do, I love you just the same"... Im a Christian man myself, and I love talking about God to people, but if they don't want to hear it, cool, I'll go elsewhere and talk about God... About the reaction video, you want some really sad music videos, do "Wrong Side of Heaven" by Five Finger Death Punch... Also, "Coming Down" by the the same band... "Wrong Side of Heaven" is about veterans, and "Coming Down" is about bullying and suicide... Awesome videos...
OH What a Guy late december..etc lols...hey bro checkout a band called "TALK TALK and a song they did called "Life's What You Make It".. if you love drums this was a big hit in the 80's...Godbless bro.
YES!! I love the saying "YOU WERE GIVEN THIS LIFE, BECAUSE YOU ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO LIVE IT!" I agree with everything you said except not everyone can talk their way out of depression & anxiety. I remember being full of anxiety at 8 yrs old. From then on I suffered from anxiety & depression & it was bad!! At 23, it consumed me. I was dx'd with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, & postpartum depression. They tried me on so many different meds & either nothing helped or I couldn't tolerate the side effects. I was in a tailspin, couldn't pull myself out of it, & was losing faith that my doctors could find anything to help me! I had a very busy, but great life! My husband and I had just built our house, we had 3 beautiful kids, I was in nursing school, & I had a lot of supportive friends & family......but I just couldn't dig myself out of the hole that I was in! People meant well by giving me pep talks & suggestions on how to "get over" what I was going through, but the worse I got, the more of a failure that I felt because I couldn't make myself better! Finally, my doc suggested just one more try at a new prescription. I reluctantly agreed. Within 10 days I started feeling like a new person, a happier, less anxious person! I cannot put into words how happy I was! The doctors had told me that if a med worked for me that I probably wouldn't feel any better for 6 weeks & that's what I had expected, but thankfully that's not what I got! I'm 44 now & I've been on Zoloft for 21 years & will never voluntarily go off of it! I haven't suffered any serious bouts of depression since & my anxiety is much better! My family on my maternal side is full of anxiety and depression & I unfortunately, passed it on to all 3 of my kids. When my oldest daughter was 15 she attempted suicide. It was the worst night of my life! I'm telling you this because I think, no I know that it's very important how we support people suffering from mental illness! The people who loved me most in this world meant well with what they were saying to me, but they didn't fully understand my reality & it just made me feel even worse about myself! People can't talk themselves out of a chemical imbalance. Please don't take this harshly. You have a sweet & kind heart & I can tell you are a great doctor, but this is something that I've lived so it's important to me. Thank you if you've read this far into my novel! lol
So glad to heat it. You're stronger than what those negative lies (thoughts) keep whispering to you. Deny them everytime they come and NEVER agree with them.
Giving is not about the recipient We are called by God To give UNCONDITIONALLY . Especially to those who are furthest from God We are to be a lite in the dark . And the only bank account God cares about in the end is our unconditional service.
I'm really glad that you found Jesus. Honestly. My mom died three weeks ago. I'm looking for peace. I find it in this song. If God does exist, He reveals himself in music, I think. I'm probably wrong. I wish you blessings.
I'm sorry but this is NOT the saddest song ever written. The saddest song ever written is "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton. Im new to your channel but I do enjoy your reactions and etc. If you have ever read Eric Clapton's autobiography, you will quickly realize why "Tears in Heaven" is one of the saddest songs that has ever written (2nd only to "when the circus comes to town" by him). If you are interested in reacting to this song please message me and I will give you the back story but this song is absolutely BEYOND heart wrenching when you know why it was written... especially if you are a parent....
Fear, he is a liar! Yes, that's actually a song. This immediately popped into my head while watching this. Check it out if you want truth. FEAR IS A LIAR by Zach Williams.
Sorry, me again. I met my best friend in 1972. We were both in the Civil Air Patrol and met at a two week encampment at Plattsburg Air Force Base, now closed. He is retired from the New York State Trooper's after 32 year's. He risked his life every day working under cover assigned with the DEA and Homeland Security. He helped clean up after 9/11. He is a hero to me. Another fact is he came to this country from Haiti. I kind of pushed him into going to see Buckethead at Sony Hall in N.Y.C with me. While there, you know the music's loud, so I kept leaning over to see if he wanted to leave. Well, a beautiful black lady was seated not far from us and on her way back to her seat, she stopped and said how wonderful it was to see the two of us as best friend's. She gave me a kiss on the cheek and I walked her to her seat only a few feet away. A night I will never forget. Best, Chris
My son was in one of those suicede high schools after Kurt died here in sterling heights michigan. Big TV Vans outside, Normal kids not knowing how to stop it. My son dealt with it by listening to Blue Oyster Cult, my daughter listened to this, I played Leo Kottke's Louise and Bruce, Thunder Road. Yes we were designed to handle life, but the changes between 1900 and 1990 left a lot of people lost. Thank you Ronald Reagan for selling blue collar jobs to China.
So pleased you just let it play. One of, if not The, most powerfully emotional songs ever written. Well done Michael Stipe, for your words and your vocals.
If you want an experience with this song (Everybody Hurts); you need to look up the T.A.C. Commercial that was done in Australia with this song as a cover. The Alcohol Council did a 10 year study on under the influence of substances driving and its effects. The result was a commercial they show on T.V. America banned the commercial here in the states because of the apparent violence in it. It’s all about driving under the influence of a substance (any substance) and how it effects not just you, but many. Check it out. I did substance abuse counseling for years and I would show The TAC commercial to help people understand the devastating effects and consequences of choices. Check out the TAC commercial and tell me what you think!
Animals get depression they just can’t voice it the way we do fam. Don’t dismiss the emotional intelligence of animals. Dogs know we are down and try to cheer us for a reason. It’s not cause they don’t know depression. Animals probably would love a Xanax but it doesn’t fix the issue for humans or animals
I bet a lot of people type things facetiously...but it's difficult to tell when it's typed out. (Pertaining to you saying folks were trying to alter your system)
The beauty and honesty of this song can’t be overstated. I do disagree with your take on animals and feelings and/or depression. Elephants are a perfect example of animals who mourn. They’ll walk for miles to go to the grave of a fallen relative or member of their herd. They become terribly depressed when chained and forced to live in zoos, circuses etc....they’ll adopt another’s baby and they live together for life. Animals most certainly feel pain and loss and it’s a shame we think we are the only living creatures that can because not everyone has respect for life like you do and idiots think killing, hunting and trophy hunting is their God given right. It’s not and we should show care and compassion for all features great and small. Anyway, I don’t think you can worship and respect the Creator is you disregard his amazing work! Just saying....be blessed! 💜🙏💜🤘🏿💜
