Beautiful summer evening. You can see the glow of the late-day sunlight on the trees. With R.E.M. performing an outdoor concert in their early days, one year before I was born. I would give anything to back in time and see them then. This song always has a sunset feeling to me. I love listening to it with the windows down on the highway on a long road trip as the daylight fades out.
A couple of decades now, I've been looking for something I like as much as the first 10 years of REM's work and just not finding it. There's a lot of great music out there if you go looking for it, but this band just had something, I don't even know what.
@@chmick50 There's nothing comparable as far as quality and depth. It was just magical. Pavement/Malkmus did some interesting stuff, Calexico too, but this greatness may never be equaled... well that can't be true, but probably not in my lifetime.
In 1980 I was eighteen and that was the year that REM released Chronic Town and Murmur. I grew up with REM and no other band "takes me back" to the days of my youth like REM. Man I remember travelling in the Raleigh, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem area of North Carolina in the eighties and watching this is magical for me. Man I love REM, especially the 1980-1987 era. Thank you very much for posting this! I truly appreciate it!
@@deadletteroffice-atributet3261 Chronic town to Document are sacred to me and are americana classics IMO. Fables tour, my buddies and i followed the band around like the grateful dead. A magical time for me.
one of my favourite REM songs... compares with: seven chinese brothers camera welcome to the occupation disturbance at the heron house i remember california losing my religion half a world away daysleeper... (the dreamy songs...)
We had the Connell play at a block party we organized at our apartment complex in 1986 when I was at UVA. And REM played at UVA all four years I was there.
the guitar line loops around in my head, so catchy. gaah, like the whole song better than the loop that goes on and on in memory also this reminds me of SUNY-Purchase in "91.

@superbeavo this may be a glitch in RU-vid and not the original recording etc. I've seen hundreds of RU-vid vids that have a full one-second gap between the audio and video.
