This song has nothing to do with conspiracy theories, the reference to the man on the moon is all to do with Andy Kaufman's biography's name. Conspiracy theorists grabbed into this one the same way Trump fans play Rage Against the Machine songs, they're too stupid to understand what they're listening to.

To fully "get" this song you MUST know somehow Andy Kaufman, some of his performances, his famous anecdotes, his epic crazinnes. Without all that, the song miss sense and purpose (with the exception of the beautiful music, ofc)

In order to see Andy Kaufman's comedy, along with a amazing cast of Ensemble comedians that you will immediately recognize, look up the American television series "Taxi". The conspiracy theories and Andy Kaufman's comedy were a documentation of his slip into severe mental health problems. He was a very mentally troubled man, even more than Robin Williams. He was taken advantage of by the entertainment community of course, rather than helping him seek treatment. Many of his most iconic comedy routines were actual slips into dissociative behavior. Having said all of that, the man's comedy was tragically brilliant.

On the TV show Taxi Andy Kaufmans character Latka Gravas was from Caspiar, a fictional island in the Caspian Sea, he spoke mostly Gibberish with a heavy accent, he was very funny 😁, my family bought a color TV in 1969 so we could watch the Moon Landing 🌙 🌚 , Believe me it happened I've also been to the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station now the Kenedy Space Center in Florida in 1972 its real , we haven't gone back to the moon because of cost and politics, during US & Russia Space Race we had to plant our flag first 😅 Mission accomplished! ✌️Peace ☮️ and Love ❤️ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary 😊 Great Reaction👍 the 1972 trip to Florida was my senior trip, we went to the Brand new Disney World too 🌎 🌙 if you don't believe in the accomplishment of our great astronauts your calling them liar's 😢 shame on you! 💙

It's expensive and dangerous to take people to the moon and back. We almost lost the 3 men in Apollo 13 when they attempted a moon landing. There's a movie about that staring Tom Hanks. A decision was made to focus the money on a space station, the Hubble spacecraft,, and deep exploration of space with unmanned ships. That said, this song has nothing to do about actual moon landings.

Andy Kaufman died of lung cancer, and some of his fans thought it was a hoax, an elaborate joke, and that he would pop up one day, laughing at his success in fooling everyone. That's the tragedy in the song, and what makes it so sad, if you contemplate all the lyrics in that light. Imagine hearing news someone you loved has died, but you don't believe it, even after the funeral and months and years later. "If you believe there's nothing up his sleeve [it's not a hoax, and he's really dead[, then nothing is cool." In that light, it's a heartbreaking song. Beautiful, nonetheless, and all the more because of its tragic poetry.

If you really are serious about the genius of Michael Stipe and R.E.M. Listen to "Fall on me" or "Talk about the Passion" Early music with such power and innocence...Or later genius "Imitation of Life" Later maturity and MTV video. You should look at the Pretenders "Talk of the Town" black and white video. Peace ✌️☮️

I Believe and They've sent many more up since then but These Don't get as much press attention as the first 3. Some people just came back down a few weeks ago. I'm sorry Folks but I don't really care for the song. Oh Well ☺️
