That last one sounds a lot like Emily’s mom from a story awhile back: the one who stole her adult daughter’s car because she wouldn’t obey her and she thought that she owned anything her daughter had.

The second story reminds me of my 'friend' Charlie. We were 6 and in infant school which is second grade. I went to Charlie's House often, and loved her family. I brought a doll to school and wouldn't let her redress her because I never got toys like this. My parents were very poor. The next day she told the teacher I was saying horrible things about her older brother. He was in a wheelchair and was very disabled. It got to the point that her mother went to the headmaster, and i was sent to talk to him. Now I was 6 and remember some of this and my dad told me the rest she'd told her mum that id had taken her doll, and that I'd said horrible things about brother Jon. My doll had gone missing from.my bag and I knew she had it. I told the truth but they didn't believe me. So the headmaster called my parents to come in. My parents arrived and Charlie's mum went pale...there was my mum being pushed in a wheel chair by my dad... My dad also brought the box my doll had come in, and the receipt (he never threw anything away) Charlies mum tried to say it was a misunderstanding and grabbed charlie to leave. My dad noticing charlies backpack had an unmistakable large bulge asked for my doll back. Charlies mum tried to say she didn't have it, and the headmaster opened her bag showing my doll sitting in it..with a different dress. Charlie had taken it, put on a dress from one of her dolls and had been carrying it around in her bag for two days. This wasn't the last time she pulled this, she also tried to get another girl in trouble for calling her brother horrible words...the problem with that is the girl had never met him. And didnt know what she meant.

I feel so bad for the son of the Asian Karen. During my childhood where developing motor skills and other basics for later in life I got made fun of a lot for many things. My reading was slow so I never wanted to read out loud during class. I fixed it myself by reading to my stuffed animals for 30 minutes. Now it takes me only 2 hours to read a 300 page book. I stuttered a lot as a kid mostly repeating words I’ve already said or unable to pronounce words like rainbow and scissors. I got made fun of by my family by that one mostly so I’m quiet in class. I was born left handed and my dad always tried fixing that by giving this in my right hand. When he caught me with something in my left hand like a pencil he’d scream at me saying it was the wrong hand and shoved the item into my right hand. Thanks to him I can write with both hands and I can’t use scissors properly. I’m still struggling to even accept that getting a B on a test is okay and to hide the score from my mom. Whatever I did that wasn’t an A was always “why isn’t it an A? What did you do wrong?” And she’d threatened whatever she could even if it meant I didn’t get to eat as good as my sisters. And being from immigrant parents and a traditional Mexican mother it was also “I didn’t come to this country just so you could a 8/10 on a test. Is this how you repay me? I give you a house and food and all you can give me is an 8?” I feel so bad for that child. And I hope he realizes that living up to your parent’s expectations is not determined by how worthy you are as a human being.

The first story is really a story of you reap what you sow. Offering language CLASSES for children below the age of 5 is a joke in and of itself. Just put them into an all-english speaking environment. They pick the language up all by themselves because that's what small children do. Flash cards with written text for a 2yo make my head hurt.

I can relate to the first story so much! I’m an Esl teacher and I used to work in mainland China, so I’ve seen my fair share of entitled parents. These parents expect their child to learn English by osmosis it seems. Like sometimes they will put you and their child together and say, “go ahead!!! Speak English to them!” When the kid doesn’t even know what the word “hello” is 😑 and the same parents expect the kids to learn things INSTANTLY, like this EM in the story. Learning languages takes time!! For any age group! Yes it is better to start learning languages when you’re young, but that’s not a guarantee that they will be fluent when they grow up, like OP.

When you confront a Tiger Mom/Dad, then the solution to dealing with them is that you need to become far more fierce than them and you also need to make them have the shit scared out of them when they see you because if there are two things that are the constant in any culture in the world, it is that people listen to a more dominant force and that people always understand the language of violence when it is necessary, when there is simply no other alternative, when there is no other solution to the problem, and when it is applicable to the situation.

The southeast asian karen yelling at their kid to tell them what something says/equals to/means/etc.., yeah thats common. I remember sitting down with my mom crying looking down at a mathematics exercise book with her yelling at me "How do you not know this?! Are you dumb?!" She never once blamed the teacher of course but always blamed hom dumb I was. She compared me to my siblings who excelled at math, whilst I the oldest was an idiot. The teacher were no different. I was yelled at. But then came along my 6th year math teacher (6th year = 12). She was nice and even whilst scolding me would crack jokes not on me but on everyone. It was amazing. I passed the most important exam in my life last year (I was 12 last year and the exam was UPSR and is very important to get to go to middle school) and passed math with a C. A C? I was the happiest I'd ever been! Why? My math grades were always an E. Because we had until the last day of school until I grades were revealed I was panicking /what if I got an E on math like I always do? What if I get into the last class in middle school?! WHAT IF I CAN'T GO TO MIDDLE SCHOOL?!/ the amount of relief that washed over me when I was said to have 4 C's and 2 A's was and still is undecribable (?). The 2 A's were both english since I love English as an academical subject. The others were all C's. Not the best grade but I passed. Im not at all opposed to stern teaching tactics. Thats what made me pass English with flying colours. My english teacher would over and over tell me that I had potential. That I was amazing at the subject, I needed to push myself. She jokingly threaten to /ring me out by my neck/ if I got a B or under. A stern teaching tactic should only be put on for discipline and motivation. motivation to the students who love and enjoy the subject wholly. Discipline to ones who goof of and don't do their homework. The thing these teachers had in common? The never called me dumb. My mom would spologixe and say that I was smart after yelling at me about how dumb something I did was and how that made me a dumb person. It always left me confused. Was I smart or dumb? What am I but a disgrace and now with quarintine and being a closeted gay and trans boy, I've stopped seeking her approval, her affection. It all means nothing now as she will yell and scream one day about how I am a sinner. That I would ultimately be disowned by everyone in my family. Wow, ok that took a turn but thats it.

Here's my school story : I was the prefect who pushed a kid who tried to push me I was called to the principal cos the brat cried After 5 minutes of constant scholdings I decided to put an end to it I just said : All children who cry are the only ones supported The principal was furious She asked me to place my badge on the table thinking I'll be scared and apologize I kept it The principal : *Surprised Pikachu face* The badge was returned 5 minutes later right back to me.

I really relate to the first story as someone who comes from a partially Southeast Asian (Cambodian) home, my grandparents always used to be very hard on me with my grades and personal choices. However, now that I'm older they seem to respect me & my decisions a lot more & have a more "live and let live" attitude towards their children & grandchildren.

The fist mom absolutely infuriates me!!! I know that I'm american and she isn't so we have different customs but REALLY??? Kids need to learn how to do things without being yelled at. It can take a really long time for kids to learn how to hold a pencil and how to say things but it can take even longer if their parents/guardian is getting mad because the kid can't get it right on the first day. I'm saying this now I have a niece who is 4 years old and has severe epilepsy, teachers and students will try to take advantage of her that was before I got there after I got there one of the kids who always picked on who was messing with her I snatched him by the throat and slammed him against the locker all I said was "you come at me you might just get away but you go at her I'll be the last thing you see before you talk to God " now I know I couldn't handle that situation better but he had her literally in a corner and she was screaming and crying I saw red and my mother instincts kicked in, again like I said I could have handled that better but she's a four year old she couldn't defend herself from a high schooler.
