I really wish people would learn that catering to the whims of one person to "keep the peace" is the wrong move. Yes pick your battles but one person should not have so much control over the people in their lives or those on the fringe. That only makes the person believe they are more important than they really are. Literally every single person should be telling that woman to F off.

As someone who lived with an emotionally abusive parent for ten years, I can tell that if someone wants you to apologize to "keep the peace," they just want you to admit you're wrong so *they* don't have to deal with it. Those kinds of people are weak individuals want to appease the tyrant so they don't have to do anything. Don't give those people what they want. They're just going to do it again.

Ugh, "keep the peace"? Look, I get that there's a time and a place for it, but there's a very clear line where it goes from "peacekeeping" to "being a coward". You must not incentivize the Karen's uncivilized behaviors, they must be punished, challenged, and fought back against. I can totally get peacekeeping depending on the situation, but surely there are plenty of chances where calling out this barbaric behavior is fine and causes no major harm to some big event or whatever. That whole family, barring I guess one or two, is just bending the knee to this total wretch of a human being, and for what? Because you wanna "keep the peace"? At this point, peacekeeping is not an option, you are incentivizing the torment of innocent people and allowing her to get away with this shit because you spineless fools want to "keep the peace"? It's sickening, I don't even let my MOTHER get away with it, let alone anyone else, because this behavior MUST be challenged or they will never get the memo, and even then they still might not if they're delusional enough. Basically, the rule of thumb is to, if the consequences against you arent all that severe, never let them walk away unscathed, always take a bite out of them and challenge their behavior. Even if they 'win' by YOU getting shouted at or punished, they walk away with more irritation than wanted.

About the second OP, it's not entirely uncommon for these kinds of parents to stay with someone harmful to their children for personal benefit, either financial or companionship. One dude abused(yes I am heavily sugar coating this) a baby to death and in an interview the mother isn't entirely justifying it, but heavily hammering in that 'he promised he'd never hurt ME' and 'I was so lonely' Or that crazy woman who's trying to get her son thrown in jail because he stabbed her boyfriend...because he was about to boil the sons baby alive. She won't shut it about how 'he's mentally ill' and how 'he needs me'.

Would’ve told that woman that if she had such a problem with how my kids dress, she could buy the coat she’s so convinced would be better. It could even be a Christmas present; since she’s under the impression that she’s close family, that means she needs to start getting gifts for the kids, too. To answer rslash’s question on the stepdad story. They didn’t seem to clarify but they probably didn’t see the messages about stepdad until after he died. That’s the only reason I can think of

While my friend didn't really get hurt badly, he got his comeuppance when he was too rough with my snake (blue snake) and it latched on to his arm. He was flailing around so much that I finally just hit him hard enough to knock him down so I could sit on him to get the snake off him. His father basically said that maybe that will teach him to listen to people before he does some dumbbutt thing like that again. I miss parents like that. Oh... And my sister-in-law's only sisters' husband spends WAY too much time on RU-vid writing comments about pets of his past.

I couldn't imagine one of my kids just grabbing at someone else's belongings! They might point and say look, that's so cool! Possibly ask me to get them one, but NEVER would they grab at someone else's stuff and my youngest is 5! If they did they'd get a talking to and I'd be so embarrassed and apologize...

My grandma used to tell us about the time she was on a train back when they had windows you could stick your head or arms out of, and someone had their arm stuck out when a train going the other way chopped his arm off. She used to tell us that story on every train ride, even though I don't think I've ever seen a train with windows that open that far, so I guess they'd phased them out for safer ones sometime after she saw the guy lose his arm and before I was old enough to remember being told the story.

Ok story with the finger, that EP obviously didn’t care and was too busy to worry about her child

The first story hits home, basically a lady that used to be family (not my mother nor sibling) used to have a camera facing the door and the back entrance. My brother, he was 19 of the time would get ready to get to work early in the morning and so he took a shower and he would go to the kitchen to set some bread to toast without a towel and we found out that the lady would go through to look at my brother while he was naked and made comments about him being naked. The thing is also the bathroom was right next to the kitchen so it really wasn't out of his way and there was no window just a quick in and out. Soon when the truth was found out there was an argument and soon the lady was kicked out of our house since that was strike 3. Strike 1 & 2 was because she was listening into the convos of the house with the camera. I.e. if I'm talking about something with my mother she would spy and listen in then argue about it. After she was kicked out those cameras went bye bye to the trash and she commented on why she couldn't see through the cameras after a few days. Glad she is gone, recently saw her since she went to our new house and well my mother gave her a nice warning for her if she ever comes back.

The finger story reminded me of my mom, but in a much more wholesome story. When she was little, like five or so, she won a balloon at Sunday school. Now the house she lived in at the time had this heavy front door that would swing closed on its own, and when left alone it would get enough momentum to slam pretty hard. Well she went through the open door, pulling her balloon along only to realize that the door was swinging shut and was very likely going to slam shut on her balloon. So what's a five year old to do?......Stick her hand in the way to stop the door. The door slammed shut anyway and cut off the tip of her finger in the process. Literally the tip, the squishy, top fingernail, before you reach bone part. Chopped clean off. My grandpa thankfully was a quick and decisive man who slapped that little tip back on, wrapped it up tight, and rushed her into see the doctor. The doctor didn't even take the wrapping off, said my grandpa had done a good enough job wrapping it tight he didn't want to risk taking it off and the tip falling back off, so he just left it to heal that way. It healed up just fine save for the tiny numb scar that runs across the tip of my mom's finger now 45ish years later.

The print shop story reminds me of something. My dad and I were at the ER, I forget who was the patient. There was this little boy sobbing into his mom's arms, constantly saying "I'm so sorry. Mom I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry!" His mom was comforting him. I forget get how I found out, this was over a decade ago, but before leaving the hospital; I learned what happened to the kid. He and his mom were at a local grocery store. He was playing around the shopping carts, despite his mom telling him it was dangerous. Well a guy goes to return his shopping cart and manages to push the whole row of carts together. Lil Dude's hand was in between two of the carts, and one of his fingers got lopped off. Kid just felt super guilty for not listening. I don't know if the finger for reattached

Similar to the kids finger story. I once heard a story of a little girl who stuck her hand out of her moms car with her jump rope to watch it flop in the wind. The jump rope gets caught in the wheels and also caught around the girls hand, promptly yanking and pulling/ripping the girls hand off. I think they managed to reattach it but i dont remember it was a long time ago.

My dad once told me about a kid who nearly lost her eyes for not closing the window of the bus before the hill. They always told her that there were trees that stick out into the road that always hit the bus windows especially ones the hill in the little cashew forest. Whenever they passed there, they would always hear a loud "tak! Tak! Tak!" Which was literally a strong af branch DRAGGING ACROSSS THE SIDE OF THE BUS!" They always told her. "Close your window!" But she never listened. So one day, I dont remember what time, they passed there like normal. What everyone heard was basically, "tak!tak! Tak-*bloody murder scream*" The branch dug up her nose like it was looking for gold when it passed, just barely missing her eyes. Quite the bloody sight. Dad never saw her again but everyone on that bus was again warned about the window. It's a particle she didnt lose her eyes in the first place. We no longer use that road in the present and the trees have long since been cut down. But man, it was horrifying to hear.

11:47 when i was a kid, the art teacher told a story to all the classes every year to never go near or touch the paper cutter (the kind with the huge blades) because one of her students accidentally cut his finger off. So yeah, while you obviously shouldn't go into graphic detail, it is important to warn kids of what can happen in dangerous situations like that. Just saying "you might get hurt" isn't always enough, because most kids' idea of getting hurt is a cut, scrape or bruise.

With the creepy father one it sounds like they realized all this after the fact... Her putting his death at the end, while dramatic, throws off the timeline of events because it makes it sound like they knew and didn't care and then he died... When in truth it probably was the other way around were they found it out because he died... I couldn't imagine loving someone, morning their loss, then finding out all this crap after they are gone... I feel for the mother being put in this position were she can't even yell at him for what he tried to do...

For the kid in an accident story, I have one that's worse too. There was this kid in my class when I was a kid, and he was very clumsy and accident prone. He was sweet and energetic, like most normal boys, but still somehow introvert. He would walk with scissors, and still somehow stab them into his thigh (which happened on at least two different occations, one time it was even safety scissors), run past the classroom windows outside, and get pummeled because someone suddenly opened them (they opened at the bottom, in precisely his forehead height) and so on. One day at a traditional midsummer bonfire event, some delinquents had stuffed fireworks into the bonfire, and soon after it was lit, rockets apparently fired everywhere. I wasn't there for that because of a flu or something, but my classmate was. He was struck in the head and was rushed to the hospital, but he sadly didn't make it. He was left brain damaged, without sight and hearing, and he didn't respond to touch either. After a couple of months, his parents decided to turn off light support, so he could rest. He was crying all the time, so now he was finally at peace. He was only 7 years old when it happened.

Your story about your dad the kid on the bus just brought back a memory of something my dad used to tell me that I haven't thought about in easily 15 years at this point (damn typing that made me feel old). He knew a guy that lost his fingers by holding his hand out of a car window and every time he would see me holding my hand out the window or even looking like I was thinking about doing it he would say "do you want to end up like (guy's name)?". Now I never met this guy but I do still remember his full name and that he's missing 3 fingers. I just felt like I needed to share that here.

Just as a side note. “He was too fat to leave the house” he must of being pretty large. “Died of covid”. Seems like he died from complications of being fat more like it

Oh God. I go to College for my Graphic Arts degree, and one time we went to a printing shop. Those machines are too DANGEROUS to not be taken seriously, and I knew the second a printing shop was mentioned that this is where someone loses a finger. But I wondered how a kid would even get into that area, obviously all of that noise indicates heavy machinery and should be an indication to keep your offspring close. But nope, neglectful parent ahoy! He's lucky he only lost a finger, some of those machines can do way worse to an innocent, unaware child. I would have called CPS on her! There is no way whatever happening over the phone was more important than looking after her injured child! If I was the person over the phone I would have cursed her the hell out!!! Jeeze humans (usually) reproduce way too easily! I am pissed at this woman! And even with her child bleeding she still refuses to put the phone down! Imagine how that poor child felt, in agony but their mom that was supposed to make everything better didn't even care! And having been there myself, they may have thought they were a bad, unwanted child unworthy of even the consideration of your parent. I've been in pain and neglected and that sticks with you for the rest of their life. And more than the pain, that child has a permanent reminder of their mother not caring when he looks at that stump. I hope he is receiving lots of love and some much needed therapy. Of course I could just be projecting and the child bounces back just fine. But still, screw that woman.

That story about the son getting his finger chopped off really puts to show that some people are not meant to be parents if you pay ZERO attention to what your kid is doing, and let them do whatever they desire to do in the moment. You only have yourself to blame for what happens to your child if you do not keep them in check. But of course this entitled Karen didn't take the blame, and even more disgusting is the fact that she was more concerned about her stupid package than the well-being of her son.
