In my opinion, Earl Holerman didn't get the recognition, that he deserves, as a western actor.

Andrew Prine, a excellent character actor and provided your audience with a charming interview!

I read an article from the NY Times, maybe it was an Opinion piece, anyway the Writer was making a point of John Wayne's political views, etc... . He then stated that JW was not a very good Actor anyway. I hear from his contemporaries that they considered him a fine Actor. It seems that in order to make a political point today that it is imperative to diminish the targeted person's talent and work. I was always taught in College that that is considered an intellectually lazy way to try and win a point, disenginuous.

Absolutely loved this program. Andrew is so underrated. Could listen to him for hours.

Great interview with Andrew Prine. Love his stories of John Wayne, Slim Pickens, Dean Martin and Earl Holliman. My favorite role for Andy was Brigadier General Richard B. Garnett in Gettysburg. Just a little story from my late father. He was in the Air Force as an instructor pilot at Kelly AFB San Antonio Texas. He was on a training mission when they noticed a bunch of people down below engaged in a battle of some sort. They got back to the base and they were notified to stay out of that air space because their were no jets or contrails during the Battle of the Alamo. One night it was announced The Duke was going to be at the officer's club. My mother and father went and met John Wayne. My dad said he was bigger than life and everything he was in the movies. Just like Andrew said. My father noted his great sense of humor. They did have one common love and that was for Laurel and Hardy. Wayne had known both and was a very good friend of Babe Hardy. Just a very cool story. Because of Big Jake my brothers and myself never called our father 'daddy.'

I never imagined that Andrew Prine was such a down to earth person. This interview reveals how much he benefitted from his experience working with the greats, grew, and matured as a person. A much different picture of a Hollywood career than we often get. After hearing Andy's reminiscence about Slim Pickens it suggests to me that Slim probably had a bit to do with the development of the character of Major Kong and may have suggested that iconic scene where he rides an H-bomb out of the bomb bay of a B-52 in _Dr. Strangelove_ .

I have seen Andrew Prine in so many movies it's hard to imagine him as a Broadway performer. I like the respect he has for Slim Picking and John Wayne. I never have bought in to those who said he wasn't a great actor and I always felt those saying so were either jealous or on a different side of his political views. Dean Martin had quite a sense of humor and I am sure there's a lot of others he didn't have time to mention. Great interview.

I met Andrew Prine in 1995. I talked to him about seeing him in The Fugitive. He was a real nice guy.

The last words spoken, the last statement made by Mr Prine in this video were solid gold truth. Wise man indeed.

Hi Rob. I actually just found you here not too many weeks back. My computer access is limited. I'm 68 and grew up with all the cowboy stars being at the center of my universe. I grew up wanting nothing more than to be like Roy Rogers and the Lone Ranger. When I was 4 I was asked by an uncle what I wanted to grow up to be. I told him I wanted to fight bad guys and help people. When I did grow up I became a paramedic, a state law enforcement officer, and a bodyguard. These people had an obvious and notable effect on my life. I'm always glad to find quality channels like yours that have an obvious love of the westerns. Thanks for your great work!!

ITS GREAT THAT WE CAN STILL HEAR THOSE DETAILS ABOUT SOME OF THE GREATEST ACTORS,FROM ANOTHER GREAT ACTOR IN PERSON ,I REALLY MISS THOSE WESTERNS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE ISN'T A BIG ENOUGH AUDIENCE FOR WESTERNS IN THE PAST 20 YEARS OR MORE.

Glenda Jackson said : Acting is the easiest thing in the world to do poorly. Conversely it must be one of the most difficult things to do well. Great to see a person who can do it well so graciously paying tribute to his fellow actors.

Andrew Prine was an excellent character actor. I remember a great episode of Gunsmoke where he played a young cowboy who found stealing and murder an easy way to get by. It was one of the early one hour episodes.

"we don't count ribs".. lol.. That's a true statement.. Getting my Daddy to a doctor or worse an xray machine was near impossible. My Mother made him stop breaking young horses when he was 72 years old and got bucked off 5 miles from the house. Broken ribs... no doctor.. When he was 75, he was standing on a 55 gallon barrel trying to hang something in the hay barn, the barrel tipped, and he fell hard on the edge of the barrel,...broken ribs.. No doctor. Lots of pain...He was never the same after that. In his 80's they did an Xray checking on the size of his heart, they told him he had broken his back at least three times, and most of his ribs had been broken. He remembered all three back breaking incidents, but ribs just the last two incidents... No telling how many were broken when he was breaking horses and rodeoing in his youth and into his 50's. ...Great interview.. I enjoyed Him and Earl very much.

Another brilliant interview. Andrew Prine was a really good actor and his views on how things are today is a refreshing alternative to what seems to be the consensus.

Great show. We lived, ate, and breath Westerns when I was a kid, for better or worse 😊. Even the concrete and breeze block urban sprawl where I lived was known locally as the Wild West 😊. You just couldn't escape the influence of Westerns on every kind of human interaction.

Andrew prine was a underrated actor his whole life but a lot of people don't know how good he Really was, he was good in gunsmoke and was good in every role he had in my book he was #1 God bless you Andy.

My father was on a flight with jw in the late 60's wayne asked him what his favorite movie was. My dad told him it would have to be the searchers! Wayne agreed with him. Dad said he was glad he didn't ask him what he thought of the Alamo.....he did not like that film.

Heck! I love westerns. And love the facts and little tidbits of how many of the later known actors were really like. Today's actors I don't think can do a western with that kind of class.

So many of the old movies have been shortened from the originals. Hatari, McLintock, and many more. Sure would be great to have to original versions.

When I was a child I fell in love with Andrew Prine. I loved him even when he played a villain because he was so good. I was able to meet him a few years ago. Very down to earth,super friendly, easy to talk to and hilarious. So enjoyed this interview.

Wow the scene with Dean Martin and Peter Graves you could see the acting similarities between Peter Graves and his brother James Arness.

Really good actor. Loved him in Chisum, Grizzly and the Original Wonder Woman pilot with Cathy Lee Crosby. He was very good playing a villain as well.

Pleasantly Surprising ...how just about ALL these actors are so likeable.. and regular folks !....Not at all what might be expected. Never ever thought about acting, when I was young...but it seem like it was a great and rewarding experience for many many supporting actors..👍

Wow! I was in a Girl Scout group that mapped the "New" property in the 60's. Here in San Diego County, were a lot of the breaking of the horses was filmed. This was up by Julian Ca., and the movie company left a heard of cattle there. We would have some great races with the now wild cattle for a few years there. We loved watching this movie, and seeing the landmarks that we new on the new property. Good movie.

Very good interview, he could probably tell stories all day about the movies in was in and series. I liked him in Gunsmoke. He always reminds me of George Strait when he walks. He's got a swagger.

I remember Andrew Prine in that western series with Earl Holliman (Wide Country). Even as a 7th grader, I liked him enough to make sure I looked to the credits to see what his name was. I never forgot his name, and watched everything he did after that.

You know I remember you when I was young! Now you show your face. I would never recognize you anymore ! Always glad to see actors are still alive and around! God Bless you take care!

A fine actor from a great generation My best remembrance is from the movie “Grizzly” with Christopher George, Andy Prine and Richard Jaeckel also very fine actors. Andy was the chopper pilot that lost the battle in his helicopter to the bear Thanks for these great interviews I enjoy them so much.

Mr. Holliman was a natural in a western. Slim Pickens was one the best character actors ever.

~Rob,,, I was a Member & Staff @ Film Industry Workshops @ CBS Studio Ctr.(Republic Studios) for 5 yrs late 70s. Twice each month a "Guest Director" would come & direct a scene on an unused Set, in Simulated Reality of an actual Production(Single Camera). "Edit" the scene on video playback by only showing "The Printed Takes" akin to watching "Dailys",,, THEN Q & A. Andrew Prine guested us once & was the most Unpretentious & Humble of "Actors". XLNT Storyteller, sharing a couple experiences that he told here(Ex:Falling off horse). Very funny. He went into the late hours with us, just sharing his experiences & extolling his advice to all of us Wannabes. Thanks again so much Rob for these XLNT interviews & sharing your Cinematic Expertise with all of us. Sincerely.

As a USMC veteran myself I equate Dukes position on films and his relationship between he and any particular director ,, John Wayne as the Sgt. Major and the director being a new second lieutenant . The director ( Lt. ) being the one in charge but the Sgt Major ( Duke ) having the experience. Any Marine Lt. worth his salt rarely pulls rank on his Sgt Major. And gives him the utmost respect and takes his advice very seriously.

This is a wonderful interview, Rob. Andrew Prine gives us a great deal of his insight into westerns, from the inside. I like the “on site” setting he speaks from. Andrew also points out the immortality of youth, and the reality of later life; BTDT with my military career. I liked hearing about John Wayne, but his descriptions of Slim Pickins and especially Earl Holliman are very revealing. Thank you, Rob. Now you take care, amigo.

Haven't seen Andrew Prine again in a LONG time! Just in the odd Virginian episode of the series I have on DVD, where he mostly played baddies. But always somehow a very memorable guy. Great to see he too is still around!

Andy could play a creep better than anyone. His b-horror classics were sick and yet entertaining.

Perhaps Mr. Pine's best character, movie and with his best lines is 'Bandolero'.

Another fun interview filled with a life time of adventures. I don't really know how you shot this, but I'm absolutely enthralled with the beautiful background location where Mr. Prine was sitting. And, just as a side note, I never rode in any rodeos, or did scenes in movies falling off horses at every turn, but my knees (and most of the rest of my joints) still complain most days. Wonderful interview. Andrew Prine is a highly underrated actor. Glad he got some of his due in this AWOW episode. Rob, you asked what we would like to see. I would like to see a discussion of these three highly underrated 1950s TV Western series: John Payne's The Restless Gun, Jon Hart & Lon Chaney's Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans, and Brian Keith's The Westerner. Each one was unique in its storytelling and characterizations. They are largely forgotten or overlooked, yet they resonate after viewing, even today.

How i wish these people were still alive today . It is a shame that they are gone but there memory lives on watching these great films .

I remember Prine in A Miracle Worker. The scene where he meets Annie at the station was filmed at a tourist railway near me.

I recognized him from the roles he played in Alfred Hitchcock presents and One Step Beyond

I just want to thank you for featuring John Prine. I've been wondering about one of my favorite actors. I always looked forward to seeing him guest star in any Western series. I became an even bigger fan after he showed up I PlayGirl in the 70's. :-). You are the best because you understand your fellow "oater" fans and human beings. This was brilliant.

Great stories from Andy, who when I was a kid was in a lot of television. A remarkable actor with many memorable performances, who always came off very real, earnest and sincere in his acting. Without looking it up, one in particular that's stuck with me all these years was his portrayal of the Serbian nationalist, Gavrilo Princip, the assassin of the Austrian Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand, the incident that created a domino among nations that sparked the start of World War I. It's also always gratifying to hear stories from actors who worked with John Wayne, every one it seems coming away with a positive take on him regardless of background or politics. So nice to know that at least one of ones childhood heroes, to some degree lived up to your image of them.

Another great episode, Rob! Andrew Prine used to be a frequent guest star on shows I watched as a kid. He portrayed Dr. Richard Kimble's brother on "The Fugitive." I think that was only in the first season, but I wish he'd appeared in the same role in following years. I believe he was also in "Gettysburg." Thanks for showing this interesting interview.

Saw him in Vegas at a SASS Convention maybe 20 years ago. Nice guy and a damned good actor.

I binged watched "The Virginian" a year or so ago. Andrew Prine appeared and played so many different characters in so many episodes I think he could have been labelled a regular.

Just saw Prine in an episode of Have Gun - Will Travel. Stumbled on this video the next day.

This was fabulous .. so many wonderful stories. I marvel at how resourceful you are Rob at delivering new material when many of the old characters have passed. The best stories are always from people like Andrew Prine whose career has intersected with many other actors. A bonus was Earl Holliman who I loved mainly because he was so believable in all his roles .. often the best actor on the set

Always wondered what happened to Andy Prine. Even as a child I thought he was full of himself and here he tells it like it was. Good to see my instinct were right. Thanks again Rob for a great interview to watch.

He's worked with thousands of actors on hundreds of sets over his career, and the one that stands out for him and that he remembers every minute of his time with is John Wayne. That's probably the best testimonial to another actor that's possible.

We were lucky to know Andy at his home in WNC. One of the funniest and sexiest guys I ever met! Andy was one-of-a-kind and we'll miss him in our little town! Always a good laugh and a star 'til the end!!

I love Westerns & grew up on John Wayne. I thought my Dad was a real life John Wayne. There has always been a sense of honor in the old time cowboy; his word was his bond. That was how Dad was. He was real & a bit rough around the edges, a US Marine in WW2, honest & true. He’s was a strict disciplinarian and thought I talked too much. LOL He didn’t see the point in cutting one any slack, either. And, just like Duke, I miss him.

Great video listening to Andy prime tells the stories of him working with the best fellow actors and directors. A lot of great products came out of this collaborations.Looking forward to more in the future!
