R.M. Williams Gardener boots review 

They sound great! I agree, it’s nice to have good quality boots with a history you can look after and know they’ll last a long time

pretty sure i just bought a used pair thats 20 years old but in new condition lol, the heel cap has 8 nail holes that arent covered and inside they are all rusted. is yours like that as well?

@@lazylewislewis4944 My heels were replaced so the small nails have not rusted on the outside. On the inside there should be an original off white leather covering which just covers the heel area and so no nails should be showing.

Would have liked to see the ones you chucked, I love seeing RM’s worn for years. Would definitely recommend a pair of gardeners if you see a good deal. They’re great for dog walks or being out and about in the country because of the grip. I tend to keep my craftsman boots for in the town

That’s good to hear! I agree with you, what RM’s do you have? I’m hoping to get a pair of turnouts at some point soon for work

Wow 23 years. Did you wear them every day at work? Thats really impressive for a pair of elastic sided boots. Good choice

I think over time it should soften up and mould to your foot a bit more, I always wear a thin gel insole for comfort in my boots which I’ve found has made the gardeners more comfy

you can fit a gel sole in your gardener? how many sizes too big did you buy? @@dougster701

No worries! Agreed, I couldn’t even find pictures of them next to the craftsman boots anywhere to compare the shapes so hopefully it helps to see them:)

thursday uses good quality stuff but the boot has a bad foot feel. doesnt have the same prestige as RM boot feel

Half size down in my opinion

Hi, the toe is a lot more roomy so I think it’s important to size down in them. They’re not as narrow as the craftsman either

Thanks Dougie, I was sized for the gardener at .5 down from my usual shoe size. Thinking about getting a craftsman now and was curious if I should order my true size or also drop down .5 as I did with my gardeners. I found the gardeners in my true size felt ok in the length but loose through the instep.

@@andrewkarram239 nice! I believe the comfort craftsman has a little less room than the standard craftsman due to the comfort insole. I wear a 7 G In both the gardener and the comfort craftsman, but have large insoles in the gardener and smaller ones in the comfort craftsman boots. When I’ve been sized in store for the comfort craftsman I’ve been told my true size is 6.5 H. I would suggest sizing down if you’ve been advised to for the gardener but ideally you’ll want to be measured for your width as the craftsman is a much narrower boot :)

Structured, I don’t believe they currently produce any models with a steel toe

Have you tried the H fitting in these boots? They’re supposed to be an extra wide fit. If not the Tambo boot has extra extra wide fits available I think

Definitely on the higher end of the spectrum in terms of price! I think you have to consider them as fashion boots first, but with premium materials and methods (such as the single piece of leather), the rest I suppose you’re paying for the name. They can definitely be worked, but I’d recommend looking for second hand on eBay if the price appears steep
