It is an actual war zone over at r/place, I saw a clip of An osu streamer on a call with xqc telling him to back off not the osu section but an an ally of the osu community, they literally got have Allies and pacts over pixels. Truly a wild war zone.
Member of the Ori community here, r/place is literally a straight up warzone. Hollow knight, Elden ring, rainworld, baba is you, and Ori (plus many, many other indie games) made a massive alliance and worked to protect each others' locations
Metroid, too! Our baby metroid was a central feature of the bench. xQc attacked us 3 separate times. We all have PTSD. Ori napping by the bench was adorable by the way.
@@Oddi0 Yes, Metroid as well! There's plenty of others I missed, but yall were one of the other big ones, my mad. And thx, sleepy Ori was probably my favorite build from us. The fact that Slugcat and Baba is you later got added in the same style, also sleeping, made it sooo much better.
I watched you the whole time. I was rooting for the Ori sector in the center as they were trying to put together the little Ku and tree after the canvas expanded. And of course, the Hollow Knight bench was amazing. I was so happy to see Baba get a proper spot after he survived all of 2 seconds in the void. Some of this stuff is impossible to see on the timelapse, but being there live was exhilerating. And yes, shoutouts to the baby metroid.
I think it’s cool that Charlie didn’t jump on the streamer bandwagon and order destruction or chaos with his viewers, just took a small spot and went full spectator mode
Yeah, i dont have any stake in it but it's made me really hate xqc and hasan. Just dick swinging because they can. Ruining art of the niche communities that they would have thrived off to build their viewership. Charlie did the right thing here.
My favorite feud going on on r/place is the One Piece community having to remove blue pixels from their skull flag every 2 seconds, because people try to make it Sans. It's an eternal struggle.
That’s the community I’m in, lol, it’s a constant struggle too. Matter of fact, I need to place a pixel.. Oh wow, they’re taking over slowly.. I placed my pixel, have to wait 19 minutes for the next one.
Turkey flag was not botted. They had separate discord calls, streams, and totalled to 130 000 members all fighting for their flag against XQC. The commitment is real.
I guessed so, turkey and iran have like the largest patriotic presense online, the fact turkey reappeared a couple times looking way different only confirmed that
Also can tell it wasn't botted due to how misshapen it was after being first rebuilt lol, and then it finally started looking nicer again later once they had more time to build according to the overlay again
@@Aegis--- not at all, hollowknight and turkey worked out their differences but turkey had a separate branch that tried to invade hollowknight before everyone came to terms. Not saying there are 0 bots at play, but turkish redditors are very, very patriotic.
@@Aegis--- It wasnt because Turkish community wasnt attacking Hollow. Some teenagers in their discord went rouge and somehow gathered 80 other teenegers to sabotage Hollow.
One thing that made me laugh was the little hidden amogus guys everywhere For example, the swiss chocolate bar (next to the star wars poster) is full of them and the swiss have accepted them since they make for good chocolate texture lmao
the star wars artwork got infiltrated by dozens of tiny amogus guys disguised as the same color as the shading and hardly anyone noticed for some time, it was the best
Being in the discords as xqc's void went on was crazy, it was like an actual War as different communities came together to hold the borders and rebuild one another
Yeah, I was about to go to sleep when I got a dm on discord that said "fuck, the flag, defend" with a picture of the void on the flag. Everyone started panicking and fighting to maintain our flag. It was actually kind of amazing how fast it got fought off
Charlie still doesn’t seem to realize how much persuasion he has. He didn’t think he could take a spot at all and ended up taking a huge chunk in real time.
i love how literally every single community ever is getting involved in r/place. i spent quite a while just scrolling through and looking at all the art and it always made me happy to see a community i’m in/a community i used to be in have their own little spot on the canvas
I was working closely with the Metroid community during this and these were the most stressful and fun 4 days of my life. There were about 15 of us coordinating a few small pieces around the canvas. You can see one of them under Argentina's flag during the Osu attack! We had no bots, just a small group of very dedicated fans losing sleep trying to maintain our spots. We got attacked by xQc 3 separate times and scrambled to rebuild with our allies. We had alliances with Hollow Knight, Zelda, a spanish streamer, even Argentina and Chile! This was a great experience for a lot of us.
As a Chilean, there were some fellows who wanted to expand over the samus pixelart to the right, but we always voted against it in our discord, cause we respect Samus.
Ok but like, seeing smaller communities on r/place hold up their spot made me really happy, especially if they were so close to where active war was happening. Half the time the void was spreading to Osu I could see r/Omori in the bottom. The fact that it was visible for that long and persistent made me happy
Made me happy to see that even in the warzone that r/place is, people left the memorials alone. Nobody tried to touch the Etika, totalbiscuit, AVICII or Berserk memorials, and the K-pop stans have been fighting tooth and nail to keep the MF DOOM one free of any graffiti. It’s really nice to see. Edit: Thank you, replies. I genuinely had no idea there were more on there, they must’ve slipped by me. It’s sweet to see so many communities coming together for things like these. Genuine respect to those making and protecting the memorials.
turkey wasnt even botted, we just had so many streamers keeping their chats on watch on the multiple areas we had. people literally stood watch over by renting out overnight spots in internet cafes for some reason. turkish ppl are just very patriotic when it comes to their symbolism (like the burdurland symbol, tea glass, atatürk, barış manço portrait that ludwig thought was esfand, some actual art pieces, a shitty anıtkabir, one ugly ass ottoman sultan, and many more)
Yeah, after playing GeoGuessr, I could tell that Turkey is super patriotic since America and Turkey are the easiest places to guess since you see their flag on every other building.
@@caitsith3.0 imagine malding over lights on a plastic box. Literally get over yourself. The fun is in making it if you're gonna cry when someone destroys it go outside or something
@@gotworc He said "it ain't cool" not "OMG I'M LITERALLY MALDING OVER LIGHTS ON A PLASTIC BOX." And he's right, art appreciation is definitely better than art deprecation. But I really support destroying those country "Art" without any actual art in them.
People are using r/place like an actual war zone to capture as much territory as possible at all costs.. What am I doing with it? Every hour or so I go on my phone and place a green dot under Destiny’s nose.
It's really interesting having gone through this as one of the few representatives in a tiny community. I expected to draw a little character and then move on, but the real challenge started once the art was done. Protecting that thing was so much more involved than I would have expected. Another group twice our size came in and accidentally let slip to one of our allies that they planned to cover over a fairly sizable chunk of land after they had been shifted by one of the flag subreddits. Within minutes we were calling up every related community we could to try and find someone who wanted the spot next to us in order to make the expansion impossible, and what we came out with looked brilliant. Then we heard from one of our alliances "oh no, xqc is online destroying random small communities" which certainly did not feel good knowing everyone getting hit nearby also went through all of that to keep their places on the board. It's all fun in retrospect though.
I relate a lot with your post. We were one of those small communities that got nuked by xqc. Without our allies we wouldn't have made it. It was a great experience!
Poland tried invading Turkey multiple times, they not only stopped them from doing so but then ominously wrote "DON'T" on the Polish flag before restoring it back.
I have to respect those who hide small among us crewmembers in other people's art. I've seen some in Marianne's hair, the Eiffel tower, the little prince's planet and the reflection of the bottle of wine in the French section, and I'm pretty sure they hadn't been spotted for a while. I don't even feel like removing them.
Its super entertaining lol. Small and subtle sussy bakas XD The only one I wish they would leave alone is the ATLA mural. Its a tribute to Mako, the original voice of Iroh, so it seems disrespectful to mess with. However, anything else with large swaths of color I fucking love seeing the tiny crewmates in. They even put one in the moon of the tiny starry night piece XD
My favorite is the Magic the Gathering cardback, every single one of the dots representing mana colors is actually a tiny amogus of the corresponding color
The german community also had a massive following to defend the whole german flag stripe and even made an alliance with france and belgium. at first it was "war" with france but then they decided to put the EU flag where the national Flags crossed :)
Our group is allied with r/fuckcars (regardless of our opinions on cara) and have tried to help them clear out the cars in their parking lot but… the cars are too strong
I actually think r/place is one of the most interesting things to come out of the internet so far. This one; and the 2017 one, it's an art piece made by tons of people (and bots) but w/e those bots are made by people also. The battles being fought, the alliances, people putting things in to support noble causes, people trying to ruin things and people fighting back against that. At the end it holds many memories even the scuff and the half ruined things are all a part of it, literally a living mosaic made by a huge number of people that tells many many stories.
There was a negotiation breakdown between r/MassEffect and r/Italy over the requisite airspace for the Normandy under their N7 logo. When Italy refused to accommodate the Normandy, Mass Effect started to black out everything downwind in their path, risking their N7 logo and everything with all the manpower being diverted to black tiling. It was pretty much a suicide run. They strategically attacked Italy's forces due to the difference in time zones (Italy was tucking themselves in for the night). They finally relented after ME took over half their space back and opened talks to establish a peaceful resolution. Italy had to stop its advance and Mass Effect was allowed to use the territory they stole back to refit the ship. It's the most awesome, nerdiest shit I ever experienced.
It's actually really disappointing that so many people are botting. The whole point of r/place is to have communities come together and create a collage of pixel art. But it kind of defeats the purpose of this whole thing when 10 people can write a script to automatically have a hundred bots do it for them. It seems like only small and streamer communities are participating in good faith.
@@sIacktivist 3. They banned regular users who tried to overtake their pixels 4. They’re also actively deleting comments that criticize them or point out their shitty behavior from the past (like banning most 2-4u subreddits for no reason)
As I understand you need an email in order to place a pixel? If it's that easy for coders to work around that, can't r/place come up with something else or would literally any other option inevitably become part of the script to?
Tons of people are throwing around the word botting, but I’ve hardly seen much evidence for it. There are things in place that would make it time consuming to set up any significant number of bots.
even r/place is overfilled with bots. Now imagine if it would be online permanent... People would create event more accounts just to have their shitty logo there
Was honestly the best part of the night. Seeing the community get together too claim a spot on r/place was a sight too see and was so proud to be apart of.
I disagree tbh, but it was the best part of the night. Seeing the community get together to claim a spot on r/place was a sight to see and was so proud to be apart of.
That first turkey flag was so beautiful plus it wasn't made by bots but a community of literally over 100k patriotic turks, I'm mad it got messed up and only got more simplistic with time
I thought they were botting but then i saw a picture of their discord server and they have more than 1k people in one channel just dedicated to patching up the logo.
@@Hugsloth The Void has been a big community much like The Blue Corner since the beginning of r/place in 2017. Honestly, this year had the least of The Void compared to previous years where they would take over large portions of the map at a time.
@@EgaTehPro that just seems like such a lame gimmick to inflict on a project like this. if i worked hard on something on there i'd hope whatever obscured it was at least another person's art, "the void" seems so basic as a theme for contributing
@@exMuteKid ???? I mean, yeah. Things existed before this. But if you make something...you still made it. Someone made cookies before I ever made cookies but if I made cookies tonight I still made them. Weird argument.
as part of the community that made the small tally hall logo under the trans flag, we were absolutely shitting ourselves when xqc did the purple line lol. We luckily survived to the very end without botting.
Honestly the best part of the XQC Raid yesterday was being in one of the smaller discords and listening to the diplomacy between Hololive + BTMC vs XQC. We were all losing our shit.
As an active participant and organizer in several groups, I will say, MANY more of the places on the canvas are maintained by individuals rather than bots than he gives credit for.
As a Colts fan, I was shocked to see us overtaken. Then watching xQc's stream I heard Charlie say that was him who took over. As it turned out, the spot above we grabbed is much better. So it was really a win-win.
The “Colts!!!” Has been under constant trolling. It would almost be easier to abandon that small spot and keep the logo and IND perfect. But I’ll keep defending until r/Place closes
I'm more engaged in r/place than I've ever been in any international event. I feel like I'm making more of a difference leaving a pixel every 5 minutes than when I vote. This shit is wild.
the next election, they should just force everyone who wants to vote to place an individual pixel making up the picture of their candidate and whoever gets the picture done first just wins the fucking presidency
"I assure you we would not be able to get anything on here" My man you have 10 million subscribers, look at the space r/fuckcars got and they have like 130k members at most
r/oneshot has under 20k members and we still have our lil pixel art on there Edit: hell, everybody edits doesn't even _have_ a (functioning) subreddit and we still got a lil smiley on there at the end too
Worth noting it was 4Chan trying to start shit by expanding the trans flag into America and UK's flags so they retaliated. Someone found out early on and let everyone know so they teamed up, but 4chan focused on wiping out the American flag instead and trying to turn big ben into a penis lol
My time at r/place has been a very interesting experience. When I first started, I wasn’t quite sure where to start. I eventually decided to settle on a small Kermit the frog face on the Ukrainian flag. Unfortunately, the void ended up in that area, and while Kermit was able to hold out for a while, eventually it was consumed by the void and replaced by some other art. Ever since then, I’ve dedicated my pixels to restoring art that has been affected by the void. Despite the loss of Kermit, r/place has been a very fun experience! It’s amazing how creative people are!
Sucks that the bronies, who were allied with the Beserk community, got destroyed when asmongold hijacked Beserk. Not only did the bronies originally help Beserk with the memorial, but 100% Asmongold wouldn't have given a shit about Beserk unless he just wanted to destroy bronies. And then when the bronies wanted their space back they were "attacking." I'm legit not a brony, haven't watched an episode, but that sucked.
@@amaidolce2x660 I had to make 5 accounts just to protect an unfinished 5x5 pixel art next to the Osu! logo for 3 hours before finally giving up. But I'm proud to say that I'm the person who initially organized the second transition of the Genshin logo. (1st was Genshin -> Genshit, 2nd was Genshit -> Gayshit)
It's a shame the admins were caught abusing their power by disabling the cooldown timers for themselves. Cheating in a game like this is sad and ruins it for everyone else.
My brother actively took part in this madness and I can say it here, most of those plots were not bots. They all had their own individual discords and then separate discords with their alliances. They would plan their next moves and designs and then go from there, pure carnage.
Jealousy is cringe. People want to downplay his vocabulary as if there isn't over a decades worth of videos that showcases his vocabulary being bigger than the average person.
These streamers say that everyone "cares too much about pixels" but then they go absolutely crazy trying to take over stuff and acting like generals lol
They mean because they keep getting in real life threats, death threats and treating it like politics and hate speech. That's what they mean by taking it so seriously. But part of the game is to grief and rebuild and that game is played by everyone
I feel like it's kind of like kicking a kid's sand castle. It's a public beach and it's just sand, so you are free to destroy it. But if you do it, it's also fair and expected for people to think that you are an asshole for it lol. (Kinda)
@@a_bear sure, but one is a kids activity of fun the other is a public canvas MADE to be drawn in publicly and for art to be destroyed and rebuilt and defended. That's the whole concept. That's why there's a time lapse of events. And it doesn't justify the sheer amount of hatred and toxicity brewing from the act of playing the game as designed
Honestly the craft table in the psych ward is the most chill ass place. Everyone shares, I have visual impairments so other patients usually help me find everything I need. We have nice deep caring conversations while helping each other make nicer projects. If this was run by psych patients they would have probably all formed a union and become hostile on other parts of the internet as a unit.
@@MrVuckFiacom hence the become hostile in other places online as a unit. I didn't say it we would become functional, just dysphonical as a global force of insanity working in unison.
seeing a massive amount of community's make little drawings (or big ones) all on one canvas is extremely wholesome, I would love to see how it turns out in the end (if it ends)
I have a feeling that it is more of a silent peace treaty over it to not touch it or fix it when it’s messed with. I think it’s due to how Charlie behaved as a streamer. He was happy with the size and was just enjoying it. Compare him to XQC. XQC attacked all plots after he found out his (I think it was Quebec) flag was destroyed. He also took a very large plot for his logo. People weren’t happy so they protected every small area and voided his logo.
10:30 I'm sorry but I laughed my ass off when I heard that. They've been nuked about 10-15 times before he did it and they came back every single time. They're dedicated as fuck.
I think my biggest issue with r/place is that there could be so many small communities that could fit on there but then you just get 7 million flags and people botting shit
Some of the flags have been adding art from other communities associated with their flag/country (like beatles on the UK flag) so hopefully that’ll pick up as a trend
@@wildboargaming1858 And that's how it should be (minus taking up both from one side to the other of the canvas and having an up/down part), but then you get Germany who seems to refuse to add anything to their flag while just expanding the same three colors in all directions.
As a Canadian it was super entertaining to watch Canadian redditors struggle with making a maple leaf, then turning into Banana, then back to Canada, then switching places completely, and finally ended with a perfect Canadian flag and ALL the provincial flags guarding it.
part of the sob rock community that was right near XQC’s push in this video- was insane to see the push against them, and how much his viewers could destroy in a matter of seconds
There was no winning or losing, the whole reason XQC does the void is to open new space for other people or for the initial people to rebuild their art even better as he knows there is no way/point in trying to make it last! If he wanted a specific space he typically just overruns it and then puts up something.
There was definitely some problems with streamers bullying and defacing other communities' stuff, but the fact that they keep expanding the canvas really allows for a lot more groups to contribute. At the end of the day it's meant to be repainted again and again
They were defacing some of them for fun and to annoy communites, overall they meant no harm truly (though the Turks and Americans got pissed so hard 😂). Anyways they certain places off limits like Star Wars. I was in one of the streams.
@@liamryan6177 yeah, he's fine with playing the villain for the event. it wasn't nearly as entertaining if he just went there, made xqcL, and then left it at that. the calls with representatives from other communities was funny too

The coolest thing about r/place is all these communities coming together. Whether a war or not it’s so cool to have something like r/place to collab on. Osu would never normally be a community that gains attention through XQC.
r/Place is one of the more interesting parts of the internet and makes for unbelievable collaborations Still can't get over the fact xQc waged war on OSU though, what a massive misinput
