The Piano Sonata No. 1 in F♯ minor, Op. 11, was composed by Robert Schumann from 1833 to 1835. He published it anonymously as "Pianoforte Sonata, dedicated to Clara by Florestan and Eusebius".
Eric Frederick Jensen describes the sonata as 'the most unconventional and the most intriguing' of Schumann's piano sonatas due to its unusual structure. The Aria is based on his earlier Lied setting, "An Anna" or "Nicht im Thale".
The four movements are as follows:
Intro [00:00]
I. Un poco adagio - Allegro vivace [00:05]
II. Aria: Senza passione, ma espressivo [10:52]
III. Scherzo: Allegrissimo - Intermezzo: Lento. Alla burla, ma pomposo [14:22]
IV. Finale: Allegro un poco maestoso [19:43]

Fun fact: Robert Schumann was heavily inspired by Paganini who had a condition called Marfan Syndrome, which allowed him to abnormally stretch his fingers, also allowing Paganini to play impossible chords. As a fan of Paganini, Schumann was very frustrated by this, that he couldn’t perfectly play Paganini’s pieces or achieve a long reach. Schumann had tried multiple stretching exercises and eventually cut the skin between his fingers thinking it’d help him had a farther reach, as a result his hand became strongly injured and thus brought his piano career to an end Not sure exactly how this was a fun fact, just felt like telling Schumann’s story. It’s more tragic than fun honestly

Schumann's story is pretty tragic in general... Schumann also reportedly took a variety of different drugs to deal with his syphilis and the pain he suffered in his right hand (a result of the finger-stretching regime you said), including quinine and arsenic, although there is much conjecture about exactly what he took. Schumann suffered from a mental disorder that first manifested in 1833 as a severe melancholic depressive episode which recurred several times alternating with phases of "exaltation" and increasingly also delusional ideas of being poisoned or threatened with metallic items. What is now thought to have been a combination of bipolar desorder and perhaps mercury poisoning led to "manic" and "depressive" periods in Schumann's compositional productivity. After a suicide attempt in 1854, Schumann was admitted at his own request to a mental asylum in Endenich (now in Bonn). Diagnosed with psychotic melancholia, he died of pneumonia two years later at the age of 46, without recovering from his mental illness.
