Actually, you should try it. The blue power laser is the single most powerful shot in the game other than charge shots. Watch him use it... it cuts it ALL like butter!
Thanks for the upload. Finally finished the game a few days ago on the hacked mini classic (normal mission). After some testing I recently discovered the green laser is the most powerful weapon besides the charge attacks!
What a wonderful game.... when I was 8 years old I couldn't defeat Bydo in his final form (when he tries to kill you whit his horrible arms and then his face through the dimensional portal) I remember clearly... me sitting in my grandmother's sofa, SNES control in my hand and I was shooting, and shooting and he never died (eventually, he killed me).... now 18 years later... Now that I got married whit a wonderful woman, been father of a beautiful daughter and watching this video I didn't notice that all the task that I supposed to do 18 years before was to trow him the shield.... and he's gone..... :_)
nice run. SNES games like this were/are at the apex of refinement. That must be why developers today are making games with these same type pixelated graphics. They just continue to stand the test of time.
This game was the bane of my childhood. So much shit on the walls, on the ground, behind or in front, obstacles on every turn and many types of them, projectiles flying everywhere... It was such a madness, I spent entire days just to get into a boss fight!
You're a good player. This jgame was one of my favorites, but it's such an anxiety inducing game. Since it only takes 1 hit to kill you, there's never a moment of comfort.
there's a way to insta-kill Dobkeratops in stage 5- Charge up the normal beam fully, and wait for the chestburster to pop out, then throw the force into it. (this wont work if you preemptively force it in, you have to wait for the chestburster) as Dobkeratops takes damage, if you hit it with a charged shot at the SAME time it takes damage it will die instantly)
Out of both SNES R-Types, I love this one the best, shame the GBA port turned out so terrible due to the programmers for it not having it's source code. This one is a true challenge. RIP Irem, you made some terrific games, many quite challenging, you knew how to test the player to get better at your games.
@Bloodreign1, Irem is still around and here is some good news for you...either later this year, or sometime next year, they will be releasing R-Type Final 2...no joke.
@@paxhumana2015 It's not the same Irem we once knew though, and yes I know of R-Type Final 2. It'll be on a console I do not own, but hopefully they keep the spirit of R-Type alive, and hopefully it's a bit better paced game than Final was.
After playing enough X-Multiply (also an Irem game, got it on PS1 with Image Fight), stage 2 of this game seems to give me that same vibe, perhaps it's the organic nature of the stage.
Sorry for my lots of text but when I met the R-Type 3 I started at the age of 10, since my stepfather had installed the game on the computer in a set of other SNES games, at the beginning it was difficult but little little by little I was able to master it In advanced mode it was not so difficult for me due to the times I went to normal mode, so it was easy for me to complete the stages except for the second boss of stage 4, that was very difficult for me in both modes, but my My favorite was always the stage 5 boss since his transformations were from the bosses that appeared in previous R-Type games and even that was not so difficult for me the first time. in the first transformation what I did is throw my Type to the belly of the bydo after it was finishing its transformation and since there was a kind of bug, the Type would get stuck and damage the creature when it left the belly of the bydo, meanwhile I charged the hyper and I kept it until the second transformation happened. When the second transformation occurred, I detonated the hyper at the moment the bydo ship fired and thanks to the spheres they protected me from the missiles and the bydo shots, except from the drill missiles since those are indestructible, but then it That was to not stop shooting the ship in the weak point even if it did not open so as not to leave it unprepared and when it opened it would receive the damage, so I defeated it quickly. In the third transformation, what I was doing was putting myself on top of the eye without it touching or hitting me to hurt it with the type and the lower sphere, there I stayed to shoot it while the upper sphere covered me from the shots And before the fourth transformation, it would again load the hyper mode and detonate it above the eye of the ship, just as it would not stop firing until it was defeated. If I still had the game I would have liked to record and upload it but it is a pity that the computer where i had the the game has been formatted
@Channel07 , ah, but narrow passageways ensure that more skill is needed, and, to be honest, all good shooter games have boss battles that are tedious in nature.
I know a few youngsters who call themselves 'gamers', I'll put on the r-type's, the ghouls n ghosts etc and they can't even pass the first level after 30-40 attempts. Games these days are just a matter of sitting through them pressing a few buttons here n there. My son dnt have the patience to even try - these games taught perseverance in a big way, as well as forcing a strong memory and faultless hand eye coordination.
man this is really good stuff. i've been watching your other videos too. you gotta do the original r-types and some run throughs of r-type final at some point!
Mighty fine work especially for beating boss rush on stage 5 advanced using underpowered ship. I used your run for reference since your ability to recover is awesome. Is there any spot where you can't recover after dying in this game? Checkpoint in stage 4 boss is especially brutal for me.
The worst checkpoints are all in the final stage, in the areas where those bugs spill out of the portals. They can take an obscene amount of damage and not die, so they just end up flooding the screen. There are probably a few others (stage 4 boss like you mentioned) but it's been so long since I've played it I can't remember very well.
I felt like something was off in Final 2’s Fire Cask Factory but didn’t catch it till I saw this: the part where the entire stage closes in leaving only a small area open.
Wonder if they couldn't figure out how to piece that section together for Final 2. You do begin right at the Factory's start instead of the short journey to the "start point", skipping the crusher section.
The final boss doesn’t appear to be much different the 2nd play through than on the 1st. But then again, I’ve never made it to him on the 2nd time (the farthest I’ve ever gotten was stage 3 in advanced mode).
When it came out I downloaded the .smc file and played it on my SuperProfighter Q32 it was one of the most impressive snes games we ever played ! Then I eventually found the Japanese and European version but sadly sold everything
I never knew the shadow force was that powerful. You fucking demolished the stage 4 boss in no time flat. I can rarely even get past that one without save states
20:00 came here to get tips after it kicked my butt for 2 hours straight. I'm none the wiser as I know I'll not be able to get there fully powered up. It's not the Boss - it's those spark things on the tracks that get me.
Here is a list another player I know made that ranks all of the 16-bit shoot em ups: shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=56123. R-Type III 2-ALL is definitely near the upper end of difficulty. He has a 1-ALL ranked at 5, and a 2-ALL ranked at 9, which I would agree with. Keep in mind this only takes into account 16 bit games and doesn't include arcade games, which can be much, much harder than even a 2-ALL of this game.
+DrThunderous9x Yup, recovery is very hard on the last couple of stages of loop 2, especially 2-5 and 2-6. I've successfully pulled off a few recoveries in 2-5, but the beginning of 2-6 is probably the hardest spot to recover from in the entire game.
+Pegboy yea those walking scarab things move so fast that the only reliable way of dealing with them is luring them into the walls, not exactly easy when they're everywhere and the background is pushing you every direction
@Phillip Scott , Gaiares and Elemental Master are good games, but they honestly do not hold a candle to Thunder Force IV/Lightening Force, Darius II/Sagaia, and, whenever someone decides to make it in cartridge form, Darius I.
@deansatan9573 Always gotta run to the MD's defense eh, like the true little fanboy bitch you are. Your side lost due to their stupidity, DEAL WITH IT! Nintendo is still making consoles, while Sega on the other hand, bowed out 21 years ago due to the stupidity within the company. You live in Europe, a teeny tiny little game market, while in Japan, and here in the US, WHERE IT MATTERED, Sega lost, and lost big. Now my takes on both games, absolutely love R-Type 3 and Thunder Force IV, have both in the collection, both while they were still dirt cheap. Both satisfy different needs. Thunder Force IV is great and all, but it's lore is not that deep, it's more of a space opera epic, like a Gradius III (though Gradius has a story that spans several games). R-Type on the other hand, tells a very dark story, of a man made disaster, known as the Bydo that spans several games.
Easier? Oh no no, it kicks like a stallion like the other games in the series. Leo is considered the easiest of the series, some don't like it, I have no issue with it. R-Type 3 on the other hand, absolutely terrific.
I can't really say as I haven't cleared the arcade R-Types. I will say that Super R-Type's second loop (pro difficulty) is very brutal. R-Type III is kind of busted in that you can actually farm lives in certain spots and there is no life cap (well technically this isn't true, you can roll over the score I think and then if you die it's an instant game over, weird) unlike Super R-Type.
@@PEG Ah, I thought someone as good and notorious as a shmup player would have cleared then before starting this one. Wow, thats a really forgiving shmup, then, specially with the infinite checkpoint continues. Well, at least if it isnt like Gradius where you NEED powerups at certain checkpoints
@@PEG At least i didnt notice a single point where it was absolutely impossible to progress without a powerup. The first game had at least one checkpoint like that
Perhaps not impossible but there are definately checkpoints in the final 2 stages that are extremely hard to recover from. Those bugs in the last stage can take a ton of damage an absolutely flood the screen if you don't kill them quickly.
They say thank you for playing, you are a super player at the end of all that.. how about - congratulations there will be a cheque for one milllionn dollarrrs coming your way. Be more like it eh.
O laser azul do shadow force é extremamente poderoso " ou a arma mais quebrada do game de tão forte" eu tive a mesma reação ao ver ele matar os inimigos tão facilmente na ultima fase
It really wasn't, a game like this was developed for slower pacing as the series was always slow paced. You definitely don't want a fast paced R-Type, the pacing it moves at is already tough enough due to level design and gimmicks, and enemy placement. Not every game has to blaze along at 100 MPH.
