If it's an actual hoverboard brand, you can use the controllers - and even hack the firmware. Other boards can have controllers that work in sync with each other and have to be plugged up. And would need their own custom firmware updates or hardware. You can also just get an ECS that allows you to read a hall sensor. ECS WITH hall sensor will make it nice and torquey. Without, and your motor won't have any bottom end :/
