For some reason the Germans love to use wheel bolts instead of studs; so, obviously, a popular modification is install a set. ECS offers a set at a very reasonable price and in longer lengths to accommodate my 20mm wheel spacers. The wheel bolts will do the job, but the studs hold the wheel on more evenly and make installing rotors and wheels a bit easier.
Installation of the studs went super smoothly. It was as easy as removing the bolts and replacing them with the studs. The ECS studs have a hex key at the end of the stud to make torquing them down a snap. It will also make removing them easy when I got to replace the wheel bearings. I don't love the wheel stud look on the Mini, but there isn't really any way to avoid it. I am very happy with how they are working though.

I just think it clashes with the 60s aesthetic. That's the same reason I won't paint the calipers or run slotted rotors. But they work great; so, I can't complain!

Good upload. I'm in the UK and have been having same issues ,running 12mm spacers and I keep breaking the bolts. Have the oversized items,correct etc etc but I've lost all trust.....I hate to think what would happen if I had it on the track. So I guess a stud conversion should give it more strength through hard corners? I checked my mini tonight and another three were broken, one on each wheel....they were all torqued up proper. Any advise is very welcome......I'm worried now about cornering it hard and thinking of selling but surely I can't be pulling that much lateral G to keep doing this🙊. Would love to hear from anyone for help .

Check to make sure the spacers are seating properly on the face of the rotors and around the hub. Studs will be better than bolts, but you shouldn't be snapping three of four bolts. That's either a problem with the wheel or spacer mating properly or cheap bolts.

@@350Z247It’s been a few years since you posted this, so how have they been over that period? I just used your video to buy a couple of sets (2 Minis) from ECS and installed them. I have to use spacers on the front wheels because the previous owner installed brakes that are too big and the wheels don’t fit without them. But after my last autocross where 3 bolts sheered off and the wheel went flying across the track I got really nervous about using the spacers. I know the stud replacement will be a strengthener but wondered how your setup is doing now. Thanks for the video!

@@billtubbs4862 Mine have been. Just make sure the spacer fits the car properly and there aren't any interference issues with the hub or wheel.
