R53 Mini Will Not Start 

Thank you! This just sorted out my R53 Mini when I was about ready to put a new starter motor in it.

just wanted to say a huge thanks - been having intermittent starting problems for months that became a permanent issue a couple of weeks ago, was getting silly quotes to even just troubleshoot, and have now sorted it myself as it was exactly this problem - THANK YOU!

Just now, followed your instructions and the car starts! Thank you very much, was a bit desperate because I was told the starter was the problem! Had that changed, but the problem came back a few days later, searched the internet and found your video. By the way, mine is a R52.

Hi, did all the lights lit up when you turn the key before you did the cleaning? Mine does not have crank, we already changed the starter and battery but still have the issue. Will try this out later.

Hey man. I have the R53 aswell (greatest car ever made) and wondering if this could be the fix to a problem I started having recently? With the key in the ignition when I move it to the first switch the lights on the dash will all light up, however when I go to start the car in the second position there'll be silence, the car doesn't crank. Hoping these symptoms coincide with yours and then I'll have a crack at fixing it. Thank you for your time chief

I have a crank no start/spark, ignition barrel should be fine, or could this be an issue?

I just got myself an 2004 Mini Cooper S and the second day it’s been at my house I go to turn it on and it makes no noise at all when I put the key in the ignition and try to start the car with it, any recommendations on where I should start or diagnose first? I’ve checked all fuses and ran my scanner on it and it all checks out. I am going to follow the steps in your video tomorrow but any information/pointers would be greatly appreciated! 🙌

I actually did this yesterday and the car didn’t start. My 2004 R53 Mini Cooper is acting odd. It’ll start in the morning just fine, but once the engine gets up to normal operating temperature, the minute I turn the car off and try to restart it, the dash lights will come on, the fuel pump will run and when I go to turn the key to start all I hear is a click but the starter not turning over.

Hey dude been having issues for a while now. Thought it was due to old battery as it died and was charged up a few times due to it not being a main car. Replaced the battery and started first time however back to not starting or cranking however still hear stuff going on. I’ve got EML, check engine and battery light up, with these 3 lights do you think it could still be this causing it?
